US senators Pete Ricketts and Chris Coons, two sponsors of a pro-Taiwan bill currently making its way through the Senate, have praised Taiwan's efforts to increase civil resilience and called for more US assistance to help the country face aggression from China.

00:00U.S. lawmakers say they've seen Taiwan's military capabilities improve during recent visits to the country.
00:07And now they're doing wargaming about, well, we've got to make sure that we are resilient.
00:12They're doing resiliency exercises with the civilian population.
00:16At the point, they're saying, hey, give us things like rifles and flak vests and helmets
00:20so that they can start equipping these reserve battalions.
00:24Ricketts was speaking at a U.S. think tank event on Tuesday
00:28along with Democratic Senator Chris Coons,
00:31where they reaffirmed bipartisan support for Taiwan.
00:34They're among several lawmakers pushing the Taiwan Energy Security and Anti-Embargo Act.
00:38The act would expand U.S. natural gas exports to Taiwan
00:42and reduce its vulnerability to a potential Chinese energy blockade.
00:46It is one of four pro-Taiwan bills currently making its way through the U.S. Senate.
