00:00Lawmakers from the U.S. are getting an inside look at Taiwan's military R&D hub,
00:05part of the country's push to showcase its commitment to its own defense.
00:09But weapons developed abroad were on Taiwan's Deputy Defense Minister Xi Zijian's mind.
00:15She used the event to address questions from Taiwanese lawmakers,
00:19concerned over ongoing delays in deliveries of weapons purchased from the U.S.
00:24So I'm going to repeat the question requested by the legislature.
00:28It goes, there are still items that we have already paid but not yet delivered.
00:36So a legislator would amend D to express, convey that message to senators.
00:46Senators Xi Zijian and John Curtis were among bipartisan lawmakers from the U.S.
00:51visiting the National Zhongshan Institutes of Science and Technology, or NCSIST.
00:56So our warhead adopted dual-effect killing structures.
01:01One weapon there drawing particular attention.
01:04A new-drawn warhead developed jointly with the U.S.
01:08and capable of penetrating 50 millimeters of high-strength steel,
01:12one that may prove useful to Taiwan's allies.
01:25Taiwan's military plans to carry the warhead using the country's mighty Hornet-4 drones,
01:31part of a system set to be showcased at Exponential 2026,
01:36an annual on-mint systems and robotics show in the U.S.
01:39Defense Minister Wellington Koo on Tuesday said the warhead is still in the testing stage.
01:45And once it's passed, production costs could be included in the country's special defense budget.
