A "Fear The Walking Dead" cast member breaks down the AMC series’ latest shocking death.
Transcript
00:00Fans of Fear the Walking Dead, if you're not caught up, you may want to take a time out
00:04for this story as we are about to drop some spoilers for the mid-season 4 finale of the
00:08AMC show. After an apparently gruesome death surrounded by walkers, fans of Madison may be
00:13hoping to see a comeback by the character played by Kim Dickens. Sadly, according to the star
00:17herself, viewers are advised to not hold their breaths.
00:19"'It's so sad,' Dickens said, during The Talking Dead following the airing of AMC's
00:23Fear the Walking Dead mid-season 4 finale.
00:30The exact manner of her death is unknown, as we last see Madison cornered by zombies,
00:36gun in hand, launching a flare into the middle of the baseball field and standing tall amidst
00:40a fiery glow. While some fans might argue that Madison's final scene was ambiguous enough
00:45to give viewers reason to hope, Talking Dead host Chris Hardwick said this,
00:49"'This is a complicated woman with a dark past with a very strong and good instinct,' Dickens
00:58added, weighing in on why it was so hard to part ways with Madison.
01:01"'She's a mother. When you inform your story from there, it turns things on its head.
01:05It spins you out from the stories you can tell.'"
01:07According to Dickens, she was informed early on in the process of season 4 that her character
01:12would be dying.
01:12"'I was heartbroken,' the actress said on Talking Dead.
01:15"'I was devastated.'"
01:16Also devastated were her co-stars Alicia Debnam Carey and Colman Domingo, who appeared on
01:21Talking Dead as well.
01:22"'I think there's a bit of symbolism in the show in how she holds the torch,' said a visibly
01:26emotional Domingo.
01:29"'Kim Dickens is someone who you have to burn something down to light someone else's
01:31way. Kim has become such a dear friend and comrade. She's a pro through and through.'"
01:36"'Kim has become one of my role models as a woman, as an actress at a Debnam Carey.
01:40I can't explain how much I've learned from her. I'm going to continue learning from her.
01:44It's been the greatest blessing being a part of this show, growing from a young girl to
01:48a young woman and having Dickens right there.'"
01:50Dickens' final scene on the show was also Madison's final scene. The actress says she was the only cast
01:55member on hand that night.
01:57"'The crew was very respectful and somber. We wanted to do a great job, and we did. I felt
02:01proud of it.'"
02:02She continued,
02:03"'As Kim, the actor, I thought I feel I would cry during this scene, but you realize the
02:06mother in this scene would impart through subtext,
02:08"'I'm OK. Don't worry about me. I'm OK. I love you.'"
02:11I think that's what Madison conveyed across the lines. She was strong for her daughter."
02:16Dickens is currently in the process of locking down for a fall shoot on HBO's
02:19Deadwood revival. Fear the Walking Dead returns on August 12.
