Kim Dickens, Cliff Curtis and Frank Dillane star in Fear the Walking Dead, a prequel to the popular AMC series The Walking Dead.  The highly anticipated new show makes its premiere on Sunday. Here is what critics are saying.

00:10Do you see anything?

00:13The Walking Dead spinoff Fear the Walking Dead premieres this Sunday.

00:17But is it worth the watch? Well, here are five critics' responses.

00:21The 90-minute pilot starts gorally strong with Maddie's heroin-addicted firstborn Nick

00:25coming face-to-face with the first walker.

00:28Then, unfortunately, it stumbles a bit by introducing Tobias, the oldest-looking teenager

00:33since Dylan McKay graduated from West Beverly.

00:35It's funny, actually.

00:39Perhaps the most intriguing aspect of Sunday's premiere is that it has relatively few zombies.

00:44This is the story of a slow build toward full outbreak.

00:47What happened?

00:48Everyone was dead.

00:49There was blood.

00:51You think that's what you saw was a nightmare? Hallucinations?

00:53As an addict whose withdrawal symptoms and drug-seeking behavior are at odds with basic zombie apocalypse

00:59survival activity, Nick at least adds a wild-card element to things.

01:04And Madison's reaction to her son's ongoing struggle gives Kim Dickens some of her best material.

01:09You need to spend less time online, okay?

01:11The 90-minute premiere for Fear the Walking Dead initially feels like too much of a snore.

01:17Narrowly following a single, not terribly interesting family, a second episode begins to propel the story forward, thankfully.

01:24But for starters, anyway, it's more of a snack than a feast.

01:27What was that sound?

01:28Here's the perfectly pierced foreheads and impeccably aimed crossbow bolts have lessened my fear of the walking dead.

01:38But I'm absolutely terrified at the thought of seeing these particular people die.

01:42So mission accomplished.

01:44I gotta go, I gotta go.
