00:00Brazil's President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva held a phone call with U.S. President Donald Trump,
00:06with both leaders agreeing that Lula will visit Washington in the near future.
00:10Brazilian officials say the call covered a range of issues,
00:14including Trump's proposal for a so-called Board of Peace.
00:20Lula suggested the initiative should focus only on the conflict in Gaza.
00:25In a statement, the Brazilian government said Lula warned the so-called Board of Peace
00:30could gradually expand beyond its original mandate and end up rivaling the United Nations.
00:37He also called for Palestinian representation to be included in any such initiative.
00:43The comments followed remarks Lula made last week when he said Trump appeared to be seeking
00:48a parallel global body similar to the United Nations.
00:51However, Trump has insisted that the Board of Peace would work alongside the UN, not replace it.
00:58The statement did not say whether Lula accepted an invitation to take part in the Board of Peace.
