US President Donald Trump's tariffs on Brazil and harassment of its Supreme Court have given President Lula a large boost in the polls. Our Correspondent Brian Mier has more. teleSUR

00:00U.S. President Donald Trump's blatantly political sanctions against Brazil, which he claims will only be eased if far-right former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro's criminal indictment for plotting a military coup is overturned, have strengthened support for President Lula among traditional center-right political parties and business leaders.
00:19However, Trump's support has also reinvigorated Bolsonaro's liberal party, which controls 18% of the seats in Congress.
00:27These same citizens that were wearing Brazilian national football team jerseys and waving the Brazilian flag, calling themselves patriots, are now showing a total lack of patriotism, kissing the boots of the President of the United States and asking him to intervene in Brazil.
00:49After repeatedly failing to bring a bill for amnesty for Bolsonaro to a floor vote, Liberal Party deputies waited for a moment when the President of Congress left Brasilia on business to storm the stage and paralyze the session, demanding a vote on the bill.
01:07This forced Congressional President Hugo Malta to cancel his trip and retake control of Congress.
01:13I think we can't let individual projects, personal projects, or even electoral projects be prioritized over that which is more important than all of us, which is the Brazilian people.
01:36Congress' President Malta is from the Ficco Republicanos Party, which contains both pro- and anti-Bolsonaro elected officials.
01:47Since taking back control of Congress, he has refused to bring the amnesty bill to a floor vote, but the U.S. government has increased pressure on Brazil to free Bolsonaro.
01:56We are working together to show that the amnesty bill represents an anti-democratic attack against our nation.
02:07We can't allow impunity for people who have been indicted for plotting the coup attempt that took place on January 8th.
02:14The Supreme Court is expected to issue its final ruling against the coup plotters in September.
