00:00North Tyneside Council has announced it will work with schools to make them phone-free environments throughout the school day.
00:09The move follows reporting that Education Secretary Bridget Philipson has told schools across the country that mobile phones are not appropriate to be used as calculators or for researching during lessons, and should also be avoided during break and at lunchtime.

00:32Schools across North Tyneside have received a letter from the Secretary of State for Education. The letter makes clear that all schools should be phone-free environments for the entire school day.
