S1.E6 βˆ™ Japan: The Future
Mon, Apr 14, 2008
While navigating the extensive train systems in Japan, Scott manages to get them to the South. Meanwhile, Justin struggles with language barriers and very different food.
Transcript
00:00We've left the remote island of Ascension for one of the most populated islands on Earth.
00:13Japan is an ultra-modern, never-ending, urban sprawl.
00:16When I think of Japan, I think of the future.
00:19I know that Scott's been to Japan before, but traveling with me is a lot different than, you know, traveling with anybody else.
00:25There's a comfort factor that I have here that I don't have in a lot of other places on Earth,
00:30but I know that it's going to help make for a great trip here with Justin.
00:35Justin and I are dropping everything and just going to travel the world for a year.
00:40I gave up quite a bit of stuff to do this.
00:42I just always thought there was definitely something missing, like traveling.
00:49That travel bug gets in you, and it's got you.
00:52One whole year goes by in a blink.
01:22I was very happy to go.
01:34Leaving Ascension, there's a lot of things that are kind of leaving me behind.
01:38And Japan's a new country, so we'll just get clean and see what happens.
01:44We're arriving in Tokyo and we're going to be meeting up with my good friend Tomoko.
01:48My friend Tomoko was actually born and raised right here in Tokyo, so she's going to act
01:57as our tour guide for the evening.
01:58Tomoko?
01:59Hi, it's Scott.
02:08Public transit here is efficient, and you can get on a subway or train at any corner
02:14and get to any other part of the city in no time.
02:22I'm Scott Shadow.
02:23I don't know where we are, really.
02:25Scott knows where we are, and I call Scott.
02:28Scott is the man with the plan.
02:30Especially here where I can't even pronounce the words.
02:33At least I can say, oh, I'm on McGregory Street, or I'm on Simple Simon Street.
02:38Follow the blue.
02:40Follow the blue.
02:42My boy, Blue.
02:44Hey, Blue, where are we at?
02:51He's got no idea, so that's not a good sign.
02:54Well, I don't know.
02:55I can't read the street names, but we're looking for where our hotel is now.
02:58Right now, we're trying to find our hotel.
02:59He moves, I move.
03:00Is it getting any simpler than that?
03:02I don't know.
03:03I don't know.
03:04I don't know.
03:05I don't know.
03:06I don't know.
03:07I don't know.
03:08I don't know.
03:09I don't know.
03:10I don't know.
03:11I don't know.
03:12Is it getting any simpler than that?
03:16Got our room.
03:17Now it's time to shower.
03:19A, B, E.
03:21A, B, E.
03:23Does he have a shower?
03:25I think someone has a shower.
03:26Bath.
03:27Are you kidding me?
03:28He says shower.
03:29Okay, good.
03:30I just got off the phone with Tomoko and she is Jebi's friend of ours.
03:35She's going to show us a bit around here.
03:37I think she's a little bit shorter than us.
03:39She's got, I don't know how to describe her.
03:41Her hair is probably about shoulder length.
03:43I'm looking for a Japanese girl about this tall with hair down to here.
03:49I met Tomoko about four years ago, back home.
03:52She was doing some university courses and ever since we've just kept in touch.
03:56Yeah, we're right beside a Fujifilm and Fuji Xerox building.
04:00How are you?
04:05Good.
04:06This is Justin.
04:08Okay.
04:09Justin Tomoko.
04:10Now why are you taking, no, please.
04:14We're going to take lots of pictures.
04:16No, please.
04:19It's going to be lots of this.
04:21Lots and lots and lots.
04:26We're all starved.
04:27So we're heading down the street to a traditional Japanese restaurant to hook up with another one
04:31of Tomoko's friends.
04:32So what can we expect to eat?
04:34Traditional Japanese food.
04:35Okay.
04:36We got limbo in this thing.
04:42Apparently you got to take your shoes off.
04:47Hopefully my feet don't stick as they probably do.
04:49This is a Japanese traditional table.
04:55Okay.
04:56We really don't know what's going on.
05:03What's going on.
05:04He's kind of sitting here just, yeah, okay, okay.
05:06Okay.
05:07Kanpai.
05:08Kanpai.
05:09Kanpai.
05:10Kanpai.
05:11Kanpai.
05:12Kanpai, camera man.
05:13The stuff on the menu here is all very traditional, but it's really good.
05:17I'm loving it.
05:18Sea bream.
05:19Sea bream.
05:20What is this?
05:21What is this?
05:22Natsu.
05:23I don't know what this is.
05:24There you go.
05:29Thank you so much.
05:30What?
05:31She doesn't understand.
05:32Cheers.
05:33Kanpai.
05:34Kanpai.
05:35Kanpai.
05:36Kanpai.
05:37Atta boy.
05:38Yeah.
05:39Some of the pieces that were real fishy, I could feel myself like starting to gag a little
05:43bit.
05:44So, you know, if it's not going down, it's not going down.
05:51Good.
05:52It's good.
05:53You don't like it?
05:56I don't eat things with eyes.
05:57Look at it.
05:58I don't eat anything with eyes.
06:00I got my own.
06:01You don't like it.
06:03You don't eat anything with eyes.
06:07I don't eat anything with eyes.
06:09Look at it.
06:10I'm sorry.
06:11I'm sorry.
06:12I'm sorry.
06:13It's Jake.
06:14I'm sorry.
06:15This way.
06:16This way.
06:17This way.
06:18This way.
06:22What?
06:23Can't I eat?
06:24Just the amount of people here is mind-boggling.
06:29The food, not a big fan.
06:31Maybe it'll grow on me.
06:33There's so much more to see and do, so I can't wait for tomorrow.
06:49We're up in the Tokyo City Hall.
06:52It gives an awesome panoramic view.
06:53This whole tower looks 360 degrees all the way around to Tokyo.
06:57Yeah, from the street you can't tell how big this city is.
07:00You just gotta pick some of the best parts and go have a look.
07:04What did you get?
07:05Vitamin water.
07:06It's like vitamin C.
07:07Is it like an energy drink or something?
07:09Well, you can get like, yeah, that's like V8 or like tomato juice water.
07:13What's this beer?
07:13That's all beer.
07:14That's beer?
07:15Yeah, it's all beer.
07:16Can you drink on the streets?
07:17Yeah.
07:22Vitamin water.
07:23I think it's pretty safe to say that this is the heart of Shinjuku.
07:32Towers and signs and arcades, pachinko.
07:36Everything.
07:37Everything, everything.
07:38Everything.
07:39Beer.
07:40There are cute Japanese girls here all over the place.
07:46Tokyo is an enormous city and it sprawls out everywhere.
07:50So, all you can do is just walk around and enjoy it.
07:54Want to try it?
07:54No.
07:55Try it.
07:55No.
07:56It's good.
07:56No.
07:57No.
08:01Every single corner.
08:02Every single street has a vending machine.
08:05I've got my beer and moved on to some sake here.
08:07Everything about Tokyo is major, this place is bustling at every corner, there's buildings
08:20everywhere, there's signs everywhere, there's stores everywhere.
08:22Immerse yourself and indulge yourself.
08:24I love the feeling of being back here.
08:26I'm just so stoked to be back in Japan, you know, subways, trains, everything.
08:30Everything is at your fingertips, you know, you couldn't be more connected to anything
08:34and everything at any given time.
08:38We've been walking through Tokyo, and I asked him what he noticed that's different.
08:42What do you notice that's different?
08:43I don't know, it's just a city.
08:45Oh wait, the pylons have no holes in the top of them.
08:48Well that's what he uses the microphone.
08:50Look around you.
08:52Look around you.
08:53I can't hear you.
08:54I can't hear you.
08:55I can't hear you.
08:56I'd sit on that.
08:57I'm out of here.
08:58Stupid.
09:04It's time to mix up with a little vodka.
09:19This place has like so many photo ops, but I think your photo ops and my photo ops are
09:24a lot cheaper.
09:25Look at this chick here selling soup.
09:28There's a pig over there.
09:29Justin has this penchant for getting his photo taken with bizarre characters.
09:42Scott's been a godsend for this trip as far as knowing where to go and what to do and
09:46stuff like that.
09:47He's a great person to travel with.
09:48It's like instinct on how to get around places and see things and get to different situations
09:52and different landmarks.
09:54You know, he just like, he knows.
09:55He has like this built-in GPS.
09:58I am like the complete opposite.
10:01This is kind of a Japanese-style fast food restaurant, I guess.
10:03You know, you have all these pictures out here.
10:05You decide what you want.
10:06You put your coins in, press the button, and it spits out a ticket that has your order on
10:10it.
10:11You go inside and give it to the person at the counter and they'll make it for you.
10:13Can you eat your steak?
10:14That's it.
10:15Fried rice.
10:16I feel like I'm going to the movies or something.
10:20Alright, that's for you.
10:21Remember, press the button.
10:25It's like thank you very much.
10:25Beautiful, thanks.

12:18and once you do understand it you realize just how efficient it really is
12:22it's well known that the japanese people are very efficient and hard working but they also hang on to their heritage and their history very tightly

13:38he told us that tomorrow morning there's a huge fish market
13:42fish market action
13:52we're just meeting up with Tomoko and some of her friends here in Shibuya
13:55it's kind of like the Tokyo time square
13:57but time square it's a lot bigger
13:59a little bit better
14:03don't tell that to these people
14:08first we'll have dinner then maybe some drinks
14:10and then pachinko or arcades or karaoke who knows
14:13nah too close
14:17this is a prikura
14:19which is like a crazy Japanese photo booth
14:21camera

14:42one Oh God
14:44they forward this stuff to your cell phone band too
14:46it's just super crazy happy fun photo time
14:49photo time. Which one's your favorite? Oh this one!
14:58I think I'm turning Japanese, I think I'm turning Japanese, I really think so!
15:02Ah I know, that's fun! Whiskey stuff though!
15:05Come on! Come on! Come on! Take another round! Come on!
15:26People are basically the same no matter where you go. We could go halfway across the world and
15:31still feel like we're just down the street. Travel could be a very lonely thing,
15:34without the friends and connection. The second you connect with those faces and those people,
15:38it feels like home. Everyone's out for the same reason and that's a good time.
15:44Do you guys have a good time tonight? Yes, of course! Yay! Today is my holiday. She gets two
15:51holidays, two days off a month. Eleven hours a day! Eleven hours a day! And so you have to
16:01like pretend to work. Always be working! Yes! I'm so busy! I love my company so much!
16:08If you can survive in Tokyo, I think you can survive everywhere in the world. Yeah!
16:18We woke up early today. We're going to the fish market. We're going to check it out,
16:21it's supposed to be mayhem down there. Scott's ordering our tickets now for the subway and we'll be
16:25down there in 25 minutes, maybe a half an hour. I don't understand. There's no line. The line
16:31that I want, there's no line. I just press the assistance button. It says, please wait a moment.
16:39Hi, um, I want to uh, select the um, heavy you? Heavy you line?
16:46Two, six, nine, three. Ah, sorry.
16:57Did he come out of that machine? Yeah. Getting up this early is going to have a bit of a payoff
17:06because uh, plan on having some fresh sushi. I'll eat sushi but I'm not relying on sushi
17:10as my source for breakfast. Some people can eat cereal at 10 at night. I can eat sushi at
17:15seven in the morning. And I can eat junk food 24 hours a day.
17:21Navigating the subways in Tokyo can seem like a really baffling ordeal when you first look at the
17:26sign but it's, it really is kind of straightforward. I mean, you know, here I couldn't understand how
17:33to get to one particular station but apparently you just press a button and the machine opens into a man.
17:45This is right in the heart of Tsukiji fish market and uh, anything that is in the ocean is here for sale.
18:02These crabs look like they're already in a batter and they're still moving.
18:05And that's fresh. Tokyo, Japan, you know, it's raw fish. I mean fish, fish, fish. It's what it's known for.
18:15Coming down and getting down the heart, down the market where all the guys are out trading fish and
18:21we knew it was just going to be this energy that you couldn't get anywhere else.
18:25This whole city is like based off of fish as far as what they eat all the time. So coming down to the
18:42fish market and seeing all that and see all the fresh fish coming in and all the fresh fish going
18:46out and people buying, selling, trading and stuff. It was, it was cool.
18:49Stupid crap. I'm still looking for fugu. I haven't seen it in its like living form. Fugu is like this
18:58poisonous blowfish. They can carve it properly and take the poison out and then you can eat it.
19:01Fugu doko. Fugu. Yeah. Fugu? No? The full fish.
19:10Just to, just to see it. These are shrimp? These are shrimp.
19:19I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know.
19:22I don't know. I don't know.
19:26Everybody keeps pointing me in another direction. Getting closer.
19:29Getting closer.
19:35This is like fugu central. I just wanted to see it. Now I've seen it. Now I've seen it even puffed up.
19:39Maybe, maybe at some point I'll be brave enough to actually try it, but I mean if you don't carve it
19:44right, the thing is literally poisonous and can kill you. That's all you big guy. You can eat that fish
19:48all you want. Yeah, I don't know.
20:08Not for the faint of heart, that's for sure. It's like a fish gut kebab. It's got like all these entrails and
20:13like even like a hair bladder still on it. For how long I've been in here, I must just be getting
20:19used to the fish smell because I don't really smell much anymore. I am not getting used to the smell.
20:23It stinks in here. You want to go? This way? Just go, go. Sure. Bye bye fish. You stink.
20:32Are you going to even eat sushi for breakfast? I'm not going to fill up on raw fish in the morning
20:46for breakfast. You see me snacking? Yeah. There's a reason why I'm snacking. Yeah, so that you're full
20:51when we go to eat. I was sneaking in crackers and cookies and stuff.
20:55The chef in the middle makes all the sushi and then just puts it on a particular dish
21:04which is color or design coded. When you cash out, you just give them your your empty dishes
21:09and they calculate how much you've eaten. I'm waiting for something that looks appetizing.
21:14It might be here in a while.
21:25It's so good. You literally just had an orgasm, dude.
21:4212, 13, maybe 14 bucks. The freshest sushi in the world. Justin didn't really get his fill of
21:50sushi for lunch. I think he's probably still a bit hungry. Now he's doing what he does best and he's
21:54going for the ice cream. Are you going to fill the hunger gap now? It's so fresh. You're really
21:59digging this Japanese food, are you? I really thought the ice cream would kind of get rid of that raw fish burp.
22:04There goes another one of those guys who ate fugu. See, that wouldn't happen. It's a freaking zoo down here. Look at this.
22:18There's just like a zillion, zillion people. Well, we're pushing rush hour now on a Friday, so it's starting to fill up.
22:25It'll probably get a bit busier yet. I can't believe how many people are like eating out of this place.
22:32The next station is Shinjuku. The doors on the left side shall open.
22:37This is your typical rush hour Friday in Tokyo. Imagine doing that every day to work.
22:43We've got to head back, pack, organize our gear, because first thing tomorrow we're heading out to Mount Fuji.
22:56We're on the Shikansen or bullet train, leaving Tokyo station for the Mount Fuji area,
23:02trying to do some camping, get out of the city for a bit.
23:13One of the downsides of traveling is just, you know, waiting around, catching buses and trains,
23:20and you invest so much time and effort to get to a place, and it's just, you know, the waiting game,
23:25you know, wait, wait, wait, wait. We're on the bus now to Fujiyoshida, and just getting a bit worried as
23:31to, you know, where we're going to make camp tonight and how we're going to do that in the dark.
23:35We've reached the end of the bus line, and we don't actually have a place to stay right now.
23:44Everything's booked up. This lady is being extremely helpful. She's kind of looking into calling out her friend.
23:52You can go to my friend's house. Oh, okay. This is great. This is all we could ask for at this point.
23:57Yeah, I don't think we're getting a bed. I think we're just getting a room.
24:00Whatever. I like you.
24:02You really helped us out. I really appreciate it. Thank you very much.
24:28After a bit of confusion with the cabbie and trying to figure out the Japanese instructions,
24:33we finally found the place. It looks like an old kind of traditional style house,
24:37so it's gonna be a cool place to stay.
24:38Okay.
24:41If I sleep tonight, it can ask me any better.
24:43The little moments of travel that I love so much.
24:46Little spins of bad luck will turn into a spin. Good luck.
24:48You couldn't find this place. It was just that someone has to guide you in that direction.
24:52I just woke up, and you can hear the pounding rain on the roof.
25:08It really sucks.
25:10Smokey. Come here, Smokey. Come here.
25:13I wanted to do some hiking around Mount Fuji area. Hiking around this would just be miserable.
25:18I really don't think his name is Smokey, but I like the name Smokey.
25:23It's not a very good way to start the morning.
25:26Like this. See if the weather changes.
25:39Just getting a little bit of tea here before we head out and see if it's
25:42worth trying to stick around here or whether we should head out and cut our losses.
25:46We wanted to go hike Mount Fuji today, but it's rain.
25:50Fuji?
25:51Yeah. We're gonna go hike it today.
25:53Hiking?
25:54Yeah.
25:55But now it's rain.
25:56Maybe not.
25:57No good.
26:04We definitely put the effort to come out here, and now, I mean, there's no payoff, and that's what sucks.
26:09We didn't bother to look up the weather before we left.
26:11At least if we got to see all the stuff we wanted to see, then it's worth it.
26:14But it's just a pain in the ass at this point.
26:16Ah, sometimes things just don't work out, and it's still a big country.
26:19So if you stay here too long, then you lose out on other things too.
26:23Arigatou gozaimasu.
26:25See you.
26:26The guy said two minutes, the bus will be here, so we haven't missed the game.
26:38I'm at a pretty low point right now on the trip, spending about $300 to come up to see Mount Fuji.
26:45And, uh, hey Justin, do you have that beer?
26:51Oh, shit. And no bottle opener.
26:55I got up this morning, and luckily the weather had changed, which means we can finally get out and do some exploring.
27:25What do you know? What have you learned of Japanese?
27:31You bumped into some lady in the street, and you're like, oh, sorry, sorry.
27:34I'm like, sorry? Like, they don't know what you're saying.
27:37You gotta know, like, hello, or thank you.
27:40Arigatou.
27:41Arigatou, Mr. Roboto.
27:44Yeah.
27:44You gotta learn it. You gotta learn it.
27:45Short-term memory.
27:48Yeah.
27:48What is happening now?
27:49Arigatou gozaimasu.
27:50Thank you, mister.
27:52Well, not mister, but thank you.
27:53Konnichiwa.
27:56Good day.
27:56Gozaimasu, but it's Konnichiwa.
28:00Okay, nichiwa gonsan.
28:01So, good evening.
28:06Taking any of it in?
28:08Scott's putting the effort into teaching me, and I feel bad because it's not sticking.
28:12You know, I don't want him to think that's his personal quest.
28:15Thanks.
28:17Uh, gozaimasu.
28:20What's gozaanga?
28:20No.
28:21No, you had it, gozaimasu, but...
28:22Gozaimasu.
28:23Arigatou.
28:24Arigatou gozaimasu.
28:26Yeah, there you go.
28:27That's a thank you?
28:28Yeah.
28:28You ask me in five minutes?
28:30I'll forget.
28:31All right, let's see.
28:34You guys go to school up here?
28:36School?
28:37Is that where you guys are?
28:37Yeah.
28:38Justin's, uh, finally found a way to practice his Japanese.
28:43School over?
28:44Yes.
28:45Oh, okay.
28:45What did you say?
28:46What Japanese words did you say to them?
28:48I didn't use one Japanese word.
28:51How perfect would it have been to use any of the Japanese?
28:54I know, I know, but...
28:55Well, I was talking, I'll turn off on the cemetery.
28:57See what happened?
28:58You started talking to them in English, and as soon as they started feeding back,
29:01then you just...
29:02Then you're done.
29:03I got where we needed to go.
29:04I got all the information I needed.
29:07The only thing I...
29:08I was still working on was where the cemetery was.
29:11I'm like, cemetery, like, uh...
29:12I'm like, cemetery, like...
29:14And then it started coming, and they're like, oh, and they said the...
29:17They said the word, and then we asked for something else.
29:19So, I...
29:19So, even if you had to rely on 99% English to get you through that,
29:24and get the information you needed, at least when you were done,
29:27and you were walking away, why don't you just say thank you?
29:30What's thank you?
29:31Do you at least remember thank you?
29:32Uh, let's see.
29:36Robata.
29:39Yeah, what rhymes with Robata?
29:42Ah, shit.
29:44You know, after being here for a few days,
29:47I really am getting a bit...
29:50I don't know.
29:51I'm not concerned, but I'm really starting to hound Justin.
29:55Good day.
29:56Uh, kenichiwa.
29:59Yeah?
30:00To try to get him to speak Japanese, and take more in.
30:03Good evening.
30:04Kenbawao.
30:06Kanbanwa.
30:07Kanbanwa.
30:08Close enough.
30:09A big part of doing this trip, and leaving everything behind,
30:12was to immerse ourselves in other cultures.
30:15Hi.
30:19No, no, no.
30:19Let's thank you.
30:21With Justin, I think it's just been so easy for him to fall on the, the scapegoat of
30:26the fact that so many Japanese are willing to practice their, their English with you,
30:31or can speak English fluently.
30:34Plus the fact that most of the signs, um, literature, things like that, are all
30:39bilingual Japanese and English.
30:42Proper thank you, not thanks.
30:47I don't know what that told us.
30:48I can do the rubato part every time.
30:51And I know that they're sticking.
30:53I know that they're in there.
30:54Dona Gato.
30:59And I don't want this falling back on, on English to be a crutch for him
31:04the rest of the journey.
31:04And I kind of want to correct him here.
31:07Go.
31:08Go Zionist.
31:08Yeah.
31:10Sticker.
31:11It's not sticking with shit.
31:12Come on.
31:12I got a long way to go, dude.
31:14A long way.
31:15It's not like I know Japanese.
31:16I just know like, you know.
31:18Yeah, but you can, you, you are better at that.
31:31This is Kinkakuji Temple, the gold temple.
31:34It's actually covered in gold leaf too, like real gold.
31:37This is the perfect time and luckily enough the perfect weather to come and see it.
31:42We're really lucky to be here on a day.
31:43It's this beautiful at sunset.
31:48I enjoy having the ability to have ice cream, alcohol and any other refreshment at my disposal
31:54at any time.
31:55Karate chop ice cream.
31:57This is getting easier than that.
32:02So this is Gion.
32:04You'll see all kinds of people hanging out down here looking for geishas.
32:10The thing is, is that very few people actually see real geishas.
32:13There's very few real geishas left.
32:15Apparently you can tell by the markings on the back of the neck.
32:17The timing's everything too.
32:18That's why people are just like congregating right now.
32:20Like between five and seven o'clock is supposed to be magic hour.
32:23And it's very much romanticized to the point where you've got westerners over here,
32:28tourists over here that are dressed up in geisha costumes for themselves or...
32:32Because I heard that you talked about.
32:35Maybe I shouldn't speak so loud.
32:37She was looking at you when you said that too.
32:44This is how you get pictures of a geisha.
32:46It's like a Japanese person bumping into you and you're just like...
33:00What did you say?
33:01Yeah, exactly, exactly.
33:05We've hit the jackpot for where the geishas come and go.
33:09And there's a touristy spot up there where everybody's staying and everybody's trying to get their picks.
33:13But we kind of just ventured off down here and we found out that they're actually going to school right now.
33:18And the school's letting out.
33:20All those poor staff tourists over on tourist row are losing out.
33:24We're leaving Kyoto for Osaka now to meet up with our friend Neil,
33:43who we haven't seen since he dropped us off at the airport in Toronto at the beginning of this whole adventure.
33:48Neil's a drinker.
33:49And I love people who love to drink as much as I do.
33:52I went to high school with Neil.
33:54He came to work in Japan for the better part of two years teaching English.
33:59And finally it just sort of came up that we felt well.
34:03Take the opportunity to go visit him and see Japan while we can on cheap staying with a friend.
34:08We got this email which has a map to Neil's friend's apartment to see how lost we get.
34:22There's alcohol.
34:23Like you can get alcohol anywhere.
34:24You karate chop, bam, you got a beer.
34:27Karate chop, bam, you got a fruity drink like this.
34:30Well it's not that fruity.
34:32Karate chop, drunk.
34:33This is why I love these machines, dude.
34:38I don't know what is in here.
34:39What are your drinks?
34:40Drank it.
34:41Will you get another one?
34:42No.
34:43Let's just go find this place.
34:45Come on.
34:46What's up big guy?
34:58Dre, how's it going buddy?
35:01All right, we have Emily, we have Vic, we have Eric.
35:04You guys already know Scotty and Justin.
35:07There's big Ryan.
35:08He's having a good night already, we have a bar.
35:23Biggest problem I have so far is communicating with people.
35:26It's such a hard thing to overcome and it works for the most part, but when it doesn't work,
35:30that's why I got Scott.
35:32Pretty, very pretty.
35:33How do you say pretty?
35:35I told you already.
35:36Just tell me now.
35:40Kanpai!
35:40Kanpai!
35:41Kanpai!
35:41Kanpai!
35:43Kanpai!
35:43You!
35:44Kanpai!
35:44Kanpai!
35:44Kanpai!
35:45Kanpai!
35:45Let's go, let's go, let's go!
35:49Those girls over there, Kanpai?
35:51No, no, no, you're Kanpai!
35:54Seriously, I'm having fun.
35:56That's all that matters tonight.
35:57Let's have fun and enjoy Japan.
36:04Very beautiful, you guys are very beautiful.
36:07What is that?
36:07Kawaii!
36:08Kawaii!
36:09Kawaii!
36:09Oh!
36:10What a nice guy!
36:11Just.
36:11Just.
36:12Woo!
36:13Woo!
36:13Woo!
36:14High five!
36:15High five!
36:16Canada?
36:17Yeah, Canada.
36:17Oh, oh!
36:18I like it!
36:18I like it!
36:19I like it!
36:20I like it!
36:21Do you want to join us?
36:22Do you want to join us?
36:23Join?
36:24No, no, no, no, no, no, no.
36:25You guys are very beautiful.
36:27Come back!
36:28No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
36:29I like it!
36:30Ha ha ha!
36:31Ha ha ha!
36:38Scott knew we were going to party and stuff like that,
36:40and he wasn't drinking.
36:41I'm like, all right, finally, you know,
36:43he's going to cut loose a little bit.
36:44And he didn't cut loose, and I did.
36:46I got to the point where I think he got a little upset with me
36:49because I was kind of making an ass on myself.
36:52That's Scott being Scott, and that's me being me.
36:55Justin's off to a bit of a rough start tonight,
36:57so Neil has suggested switching gears
37:00by doing a little bowling.
37:02They found these ones in the 80s.
37:03Ha ha ha!
37:04I'm about to try on these bowling shoes,
37:07and I realized I don't have socks.
37:09Oh, shit.
37:11Go with the blaster and you can get condos.
37:13I was going to say toilet paper or a paper towel,
37:15not condos.
37:18I look like I'm in traction.
37:21in front of the team,
37:24but it's going to be a bit good,
37:26but it's fine.
37:27I'm like, man, you're going to get me?
37:28Yeah.
37:29Yeah, yeah, yeah.
37:30Yeah, well, I was just waiting.
37:31You know what I was waiting for?
37:42Oh, shit.
37:43I was like, man.
37:44I was like, man.
37:45I was like, man.
37:46You know what I was doing?
37:47I was like, man.
37:48I was like, man.
37:48I was like, man.
37:49I was like, man.
37:50He does not like running down there.
37:58He sucks.
38:02That is awesome.
38:05Clean the balls is the key.
38:07He's trying out his ball.
38:09He's trying out somebody else's ball.
38:11Yeah!
38:19LukΓ‘cs has decided to give a shit about something in his life for the first time ever.
38:23And I'm going to kick everybody's ass off the balls.
38:41This is for the game.
39:02That's what happens when you don't bring socks to a bowling alley.
39:06Done.
39:11Justin has reached a very happy, pleasing place.
39:18I'm going to toboggan this shit.
39:29There's nothing hotter than two hot Japanese chicks playing video games.
39:35Oh, Tresla!
39:38Tresla's everywhere, dude!
39:39When we hooked up with Neil, it was just a big party.
39:42And then when we hooked up with all of his Australian friends,
39:45it just turned into an even bigger party.
39:47Like, ab genauso.
39:49At least on our own.
39:53We at least won a little.
39:55We've got inspiration of Two Befores tomorrow.
39:58Wasn't Far One!
40:00We've got this fun.
40:05We pro-udemancito.
40:06Thanks for having mepenny and promo.
40:08And boom!
40:09Tresla's everywhere on Another.
40:10We're ready for you.
40:12Forget outwipe it!
40:13Music 2 Money Docs.
40:14Please support us.
40:15If we first gear form for you.
40:16We've got to book it to pick up our rental car and head to Kowaisan.
40:23I'm feeling fine.
40:24The other guys are hurting a little bit.
40:26Staying out late means you wake up late.
40:28So kind of hoping we get this car on time.
40:32We're a little late.
40:34We were supposed to come pick it up at 10 this morning.
40:37And as you can see, it's a little closer to 6.
40:40Just trying to figure out where we are and kind of where we're going.
40:47We're leaving so late, it's going to be dark soon.
40:49It's going to be hard to find our way.
40:51We're able to get them to program the GPS in the car.
40:54Even though it's in Japanese, it'll point us in the right direction.
40:58I'm not only just doing all the work, I'm pretty sure I'm going to be doing all the driving as well.
41:02Everybody else is in pretty poor condition.
41:06It'll be nice just to get out to a peaceful setting, spiritual place.
41:09Unwind, relax and see some brand new stuff.
41:14All we've seen of Japan is the city and I know there's more to it than just city.
41:18My son's about two hours out of Osaka.
41:20It is a temple village set up out in the mountains.
41:24Absolutely beautiful.
41:28The second I sat down in that car, I felt like it was a whole new adventure, a whole new trip.
41:34The space that you feel like you have outside of the city is really refreshing and I hope it's really going to recharge us.
41:44We're staying in an actual Buddhist temple. It doesn't get more inspirational than that.
41:49We arrived here really, really late. We were supposed to be here this afternoon and we did get here until like, it's like 9 o'clock I think now.
41:58See it, see it, see it.
42:03I broke the rule.
42:04As soon as you're off the bamboo and slippers and until you're outside, you don't wear shoes.
42:09Can I even wear this shirt?
42:11Is that disrespectful?
42:13Yeah, maybe.
42:14A skull and crossbones with a smile and sunglasses might not be the most temple friendly t-shirt.
42:19See, I got that shirt a little bit more prepared.
42:21We rolled in at 9. Most people check in at about 3.
42:25They seem kind of surprised, but still very accommodating.
42:28I think we all just wanted to go to bed, to be honest.
42:30But now that they've pulled this aside, I feel bad saying like, oh no, don't worry about it.
42:34Because look at this, look how ornate all this stuff is.
42:51Coming out here into the mountains to Khoisan is just the perfect place to just sort of cleanse the mind,
43:09cleanse the soul and couldn't work out to be better timing.
43:12I think this is going to just help us recover in a lot of different senses.
43:16With every country we go and visit, if we spend more time in the country than the city and vice versa,
43:24then you only see one part of that country.
43:26And since we've been in Japan, we've seen nothing but cities.
43:28So it's time for us to kind of get out towards the country a little bit.
43:32If we don't take advantage of that, then we're going to miss the heart and soul of Japan.
43:39Japan has the perfect natural setting to be a camper's heaven.
43:43The natural side provides the ability to be able to change the big buildings for mountains and rivers and streams.
43:50It's completely different from the big city life.
43:54And yet it has a certain something that makes it feel still as remote and still as foreign.
43:59Now that we've seen the city life, we're going to experience the country life in a more natural side of Japan.
44:05That's what we get back in the world.
44:08Now over at sea, we're going to take advantage of, and it's the changing limit in a little bit,
44:11especially in the dois Hammer and put the beginning of the world on this side of America.
44:13Here we go.
44:14It's taken off from the top of my Drew.
44:16We're only beginning with another one moreamo.
44:17Another one.
44:19Another one.
44:20Another one.
44:21That's something I can do with anybody.
44:23It's not a very common purpose.
44:24It's a lot.
44:25Not so it's like we hate bringing people inθΆ³ part the things.
44:29We'll eventually put it forward.
44:30Let's take care four or five or five ways.
44:31Great will be successful.
