00:00How can you, sir, link, sir, spiritual things, nirvana and all that stuff with the materialistic things like economics, money?
00:07I cannot get your point.
00:08You understand how badly we attach value to things?
00:13Something might be tremendously valuable, really valuable, but you'll not be prepared to spend even rupees hundred for it.
00:22The average Indian household spends much more on the girl's dowry than on the girl's education.
00:32This is where spirituality comes in.
00:34I'm talking of money here.
00:36If you don't have wisdom, you will not know where to spend your money.
00:39Money is alright.
00:40Earning money is alright.
00:41But do you know where to spend it?
00:44There are many, two more black marks that are selling even more.
00:46That is the idea of God and the people who think that they are going to bring peace.
00:51Tell me the ROI, please.
00:53Please tell me.
00:53Please illuminate me.
00:54But you took the whole thing and gave to some God man.
00:57You'll be earning from the wrong source and spending at the wrong place.
01:03Want that kind of life?
01:13Good evening, sir.
01:14First of all, I'm Tushar, a first year beating student from IIT Goa.
01:17Like, I was going through your book, Truth Without Apology.
01:20And there's a chapter named Good Spirituality is Good Economics.
01:25Like, in the last line, you have mentioned that real economics is not separate from real spirituality.
01:30Like, how can you, sir, link, sir, spiritual things, nirvana and all that stuff with the materialistic things like economics, money.
01:38And now you're saying deforestation is wrong.
01:40Like, I cannot get your point.
01:43Good spirituality is good economics, right?
01:47Yes, sir.
01:50Your favorite celebrity, favorite celebrity, we are black.
01:55Black, let's say.
01:57He is your favorite celebrity.
01:58Okay, sir.
02:00Right?
02:00And you are totally enchanted.
02:03Totally enchanted.
02:04He is a football player or a film actor or somebody.
02:09And we are black.
02:10Yes, sir.
02:11And he has been continuously telling you that, you know, black is best.
02:19Black is best.
02:20That's the motto.
02:22Chant with me.
02:22Black is best.
02:23Black is best.
02:25Best.
02:25And you don't even know that he has been in this way continuously conditioning your mind.
02:32Right?
02:32Yes, sir.
02:34Say black is best.
02:35Black is best.
02:36Repeat black is best.
02:37Black is best.
02:38Black is best.
02:38Now, this is rupees one lakh.
02:40Please buy it.
02:43And you will buy.
02:45Because you do not know that you have been conditioned to believe that black is best.
02:49And you in no way know of its real value.
02:53Just because it is black, you will be ready to pay rupees one lakh for it.
02:57This is how economics get distorted when you don't have wisdom.
03:04When you say something carries a certain price.
03:08How do you know something is worth that price?
03:10Please tell me.
03:13So, like.
03:14Black is best.
03:15Yes, sir.
03:16Black is best.
03:16So, this is rupees one lakh.
03:18Will they sell or not?
03:20This will sell.
03:22Hot cakes.
03:23This will sell.
03:24Now, think of so many black mugs that we have been buying.
03:30Think of them.
03:33The foremost among them is jewelry.
03:38Does it really have any value when it comes to utility?
03:42Please tell me.
03:45The money that you pay must be commensurate.
03:49To the practical utility of something.
03:52Why are you paying so much money?
03:54For just a metal?
03:57Or a couple of metals?
03:59Why?
04:00Because you have been conditioned.
04:02And that's what happens to those who are not deeply spiritual.
04:05They can be very easily conditioned.
04:08And then they'll spend all their savings on these black mugs.
04:12Thinking that they actually deserve to be bought for rupees one lakh.
04:17That's why good spirituality is good economics.
04:19Okay.
04:23Though we are conditioned.
04:24Like when we purchase jewelry.
04:27When we purchase things like that.
04:28Like the black mug you were saying.
04:30We just see the benefits after that.
04:32Like we can sell it to those like us who purchase us.
04:36What if you are not at all interested in selling it ever?
04:41There are so many traditional middle class women in this country who never buy jewelry for the purpose of ever selling it.
04:51They say we are buying it.
04:54You ask them the reason.
04:57They'll give some reason.
04:59Right?
04:59You take the line of questioning.
05:02A little ahead.
05:04And they might get annoyed.
05:05Because there is no real reason.
05:08And you are investing your entire life saving on something.
05:11Why are you investing your money on something?
05:14You know the reason why there are so many farmer suicides in India.
05:19Especially in Maharashtra.
05:20There are multiple reasons obviously.
05:22One of the reasons is.
05:24The poor farmer spends a lot on weddings and other kinds of traditional and religious observations.
05:37Be it a wedding or a funeral or anything else.
05:40And when he spends so much he has to borrow from the local money lender at exorbitant rates.
05:46That compounds very quickly.
05:48And on top of that.
05:52If there is a bad summer or a failed monsoon.
05:58The farmer is often pushed to suicide.
06:01Along with other contributing factors obviously.
06:04You understand how badly we attach value to things.
06:12You understand how poor we are at evaluation.
06:16Something might be tremendously valuable.
06:19Really valuable.
06:20But you will not be prepared to spend even rupees hundred for it.
06:25You will say no, no I don't want to take it.
06:26And something.
06:27Might just be gas.
06:29A hot air balloon.
06:34Empty vacuum.
06:35And you will say I will put my entire life into obtaining this.
06:40That's what lack of wisdom or spiritual foundation does.
06:46Think of it.
06:47You are here and of course you will have a functional placement office.
06:53And it happens in other IITs.
06:55I am sure it happens here as well.
06:56After admissions office, placement office is the real thing.
07:00All else is just time pass.
07:01Right?
07:02Yes.
07:04The admissions office.
07:04JE is important.
07:05You will put a lot into it.
07:07And then you start looking forward to the placement office.
07:10Which companies, what CTC, this, that.
07:12International placements.
07:14So money.
07:16What will you do with that money?
07:20Do you really know what to do with that money?
07:25And when you don't know what to do with that money.
07:28Then the sellers celebrate.
07:32The market rejoices.
07:34They look at you.
07:38And they will be elated.
07:40Here comes another one with a fat package and zero wisdom.
07:44He can be fooled.
07:45Sir, please come over.
07:47This one for rupees 1 lakh.
07:48This one for 10 lakh.
07:49This one for so much.
07:50And you can be fooled.
07:57The average Indian household.
08:01Spends.
08:02Much more on the girl's dowry than on the girl's education.
08:07This is where spirituality comes in.
08:09I am talking of money here.
08:11If you don't have wisdom.
08:13You will not know where to spend your money.
08:17You will spend your money rather on the girl's dowry than on her education.
08:24Money is alright.
08:25Earning money is alright.
08:26But do you know where to spend it?
08:27And I will correct myself.
08:31Not that earning money by any means is alright.
08:34Because even there we failed to do the complete calculation.
08:39One and a half hours of driving to the office.
08:42One and a half hours of driving back to your place.
08:45In peak traffic hours.
08:46How do you put a number to that?
08:50How do you evaluate the cost of that?
08:54But you don't.
08:55Because wisdom is what is missing.
08:58And when wisdom is missing.
08:59Then all your financial calculations also go awry.
09:03You will simply say this is what I get from my job.
09:06You won't see what is the cost of being in that job.
09:14And here I am talking of something very tangible.
09:17Time.
09:17Time that you can measure.
09:19Right?
09:19One and a half hours.
09:19One and a half hours.
09:21How about things that are not easily quantifiable?
09:24Like spirit.
09:27Like inner purity.
09:28What if your job saps away all of these?
09:34What if after three years in a company.
09:37You have turned shrewd.
09:38Cunning.
09:41What if the job is of a nature that keeps terrifying you.
09:45In the name of motivation.
09:47In the name of targets.
09:50And three years later you discover.
09:53That you are a fearful individual.
09:55How do you put a price to that?
09:58Please tell me.
09:59How do you adjust that against your CTC?
10:05You will not be able to do even basic arithmetic.
10:09If you don't have wisdom.
10:15I would like to.
10:16On a lighter note.
10:17I would like to differ with you on one thing.
10:19You said jewelry is the black mark that is selling most.
10:23There are many.
10:24Two more black marks that are selling even more.
10:26That is the idea of God.
10:28And the people who think that they are going to bring peace.
10:32So.
10:35That's God house.
10:36And you go there.
10:38And you offer your life savings.
10:41Tell me the ROI please.
10:45Please tell me.
10:46Please illuminate me.
10:48But you are conditioned.
10:49You are indoctrinated.
10:50And you must have put in your sweat and your blood to earn every rupee of that.
10:56Or maybe you cheated on the job.
11:03Maybe you took bribes.
11:04I don't know how you got that money.
11:06But you took the whole thing.
11:08And gave to some God man.
11:10Baba Ji.
11:11This is for you and for your ashram.
11:13If you don't have wisdom, this is what you will end up doing with your money.
11:20Or now I have earned so much.
11:21Let me go to Dubai and burn it.
11:26Even that is not fundamentally different from offering it to Baba Ji.
11:31Baba Ji, Sheikh Ji, same thing.
11:33Both offer you gratification.
11:38One offers gratification in the imaginary sense.
11:42Imagine that now you have reached heaven after your death.
11:45I have bought a heaven insurance for you.
11:47Here is your insurance.
11:49And the other offers sensual gratification.
11:53So you go there and you look at the tall buildings and the massive malls.
11:58That's what you will do with your money.
12:03Or you will be gifting lavishly to your boyfriends or girlfriends.
12:09Not knowing why really.
12:13You will be earning from the wrong source.
12:19And spending at the wrong place.
12:22Want that kind of life?
12:25But you will be happy that you are earning.
12:29You will be earning from the wrong place.
12:31And spending at an equally wrong place.
12:35But you will be proud that you are earning.
12:38What kind of life is that?
12:42And GDP will rise by the way.
12:45Because GDP does not factor in wisdom.
12:48As long as there is production and consumption, GDP rises.
12:51Even if only guns are being produced.
12:57And even if only bullets are being consumed.
13:02GDP will still rise.
13:06And you can put that on your CV.
13:07Last CTC, this much.
13:0940L, 80L.
13:11No number.
13:12Thank you sir.
13:15That was very illuminating.
13:23Thank you sir.
13:23That was very illuminating.
