00:00If you're delivering the keynote for this
00:02inaudible raising our voices, what is the key idea
00:06that you want to share today?
00:10Hi.
00:11First of all, it's an honor to be able to keynote at this event.
00:15Thank you to The Hollywood Reporter and Walmart.
00:17Thank you so much.
00:19I think it's a platform to be able to stand up
00:22and talk about inclusion, equity, and accessibility.
00:26And knowing what we've gotten in the years
00:29to get my message across to people,
00:32but now that we've really hit it out of the ballpark of the quota
00:36and all the excitement and attention and moving,
00:40and the victories in the back of your up there as best picture,
00:45it doesn't mean we're going to stop talking about
00:47what needs to be improved,
00:50what we need to do to make things more accessible.
00:54So I'm just going to be continuing the message today.
00:57Today's the day to keep on spreading the message,
00:59spreading the faith.
01:02So when you first won an Oscar for children in the last year
01:05not over 30 years ago,
01:07quota winning best picture this year,
01:09how have things changed and not changed?
01:16What do you think it's a long time
01:17for something to take place, you know,
01:19since I won the Oscar,
01:20and now Joy has won the Oscar.
01:22I've even, I still get chills thinking about it.
01:25First of all, I have to say that I'm not alone anymore.
01:27Hopefully, what has happened,
01:31people will be able to acknowledge,
01:34if not, I understand that deaf actors
01:35are acknowledged more than ever,
01:38just simply more than, you know, lip service,
01:41that they're actually going to, you know,
01:43walk along and talk the talk.
01:44And do you think it's a long time
01:47advocating for representation,
01:49not with us,
01:50and what do you think inclusion,
01:52and even for each other,
01:55do you think what that looks like?
01:57Inclusion looks like not being afraid
02:02to collaborate with deaf and disabled artists.
02:05Inclusion means understanding our particular needs
02:09as artists to make things work
02:11so that we can do our work,
02:13whether we're actors or writers
02:15or directors or makeup artists,
02:17clothing designers,
02:18whatever it may be in the industry.
02:20So that's what inclusion looks like to me.
02:22It's a matter of collaboration.
02:25Thank you so much for working here.
