The capital of Greenland, Nuuk, has been hit by a citywide blackout affecting nearly all of its 20,000 residents. The national energy company reported that the cause of the outage remains unclear, though efforts are underway to restore service. Heating systems, lighting, and much of the city’s communications have been disrupted, leaving only a few critical buildings operating with emergency generators.
