The new head of a semi-official body that helps navigate relations with China has officially taken office and says cross-strait interaction and communication do not signify concession or backing down.

00:06Su Jiachuan is calling for cross-strait exchanges to resume.
00:24The government trusts the Straits Exchange Foundation
00:27to handle issues involving Taiwanese people living or working in China,
00:31as well as other cross-strait matters.
00:34It's supposed to do so by working with its Chinese counterpart,
00:37the Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Straits.
00:40But the two agencies have not interacted since 2016.
00:44The foundation's new chair said he hopes for normalized cross-strait exchanges
00:48to ensure peace and stability,
00:50and said China should stop obstructing interactions between the two sides.
