00:00We've all heard about rainforests, but have you ever heard about a fire forest?
00:08Now I know that sounds different, but it's a new way of thinking about some
00:12forests that need fire just like some forests that need rain. Now for the
00:17longest time we've tried to suppress fire in our western forests, but those
00:22forests need fire to thrive. Not catastrophic wildfire, but managed fire.
00:30Bend used to be a timber town, but now it's better known for its breweries and
00:40mountain biking. I hit the trails with extension forester Nicole Strong, who like
00:47me, loves all three things. Trees, beer, and bikes.
00:54All right. Yeah, Chuck, this is what I was talking about. We probably get 3 million visitors a year
01:04in the Bend area, and they come for bike riding, trail running. We have world-class fly fishing.
01:10The skiing in the winter is phenomenal. This is just a hub for people to come from all over to enjoy our
01:16natural wonders.
