00:00Leading the way in building high-rises with wood.
00:07This is Albina Yard, a brand new four-story complex that is all about being local.
00:15Thomas Robinson is the project architect.
00:18Pretty much everything you see here was either grown or fabricated in Oregon.
00:24The sourcing is important. I mean, the idea that we can actually source the beams,
00:29the window systems also made here, even the hardware for the glass.
00:34The idea that you can actually kind of leverage those local resources
00:38to really kind of drive economic development locally, it's really important.
00:44A key ingredient to sustainability at Albina Yard is the use of an innovative type of building material
00:51called cross-laminated timber, or CLT.
00:55This is a three-ply panel of cross-laminated timber.
00:59And it's really what Albina Yard is made out of.
01:02So you can see it's a series of two-by-eight timbers.
01:07So you can see one here and you can see one there.
01:09And then it's laminated in a crosswise pattern.
01:12You can sort of see the end grain there.
01:14And then there's another layer on the bottom.
01:16And that creates the panels that, you know, make up the building.
01:21Can I pick this up?
01:22Yeah, you can try.
01:23Oh man.
01:24All right.
01:25God.
01:26Woo!
01:27Wow!
01:28That is heavy.
01:29That is hefty.
01:30It's incredibly strong.
01:32Yeah.
01:33You
01:35You
