Two foreign nationals became the first individuals in Malaysia to be charged at the Johor Baru Sessions Court with littering in public.

Bangladeshi national Sultan Md, 28, and Indonesian Anita Lukman, 49, were brought to court on Friday (Jan 23) morning.

00:00Two foreign nationals became the first individuals in Malaysia to be charged at the Sessions Court with littering in public.
00:0828-year-old Bangladesh National Sultan Mad and 49-year-old Indonesian Anita Lukman faced their charges at the court in Johor Bahru on Friday.
00:17Anita, who worked odd jobs, pleaded guilty to throwing a cigarette butt and drink bottle on the sidewalk and not in the designated bin meant for solid waste in Stulang Laut in the wee hours of January 1st.
00:30The offence was framed under the Solid Waste and Public Cleansing Management Act.
00:34The prosecuting officer from Solid Waste and Public Cleansing Management Corporation asked for a suitable punishment for the accused as a lesson to her and the public.
00:43The court then ordered Anita to pay a fine of 500 ringgit in default 15 days imprisonment and ordered her to serve 6 hours of community service.
00:52Separately, Sultan, who is a factory worker, allegedly committed the offence in the same area also on January 1st.
01:00The accused requested for a translator as he did not fully understand the charge.
