00:01We are not seeing many sized lobsters at all.
00:05Previously...
00:06This is f***ing shit.
00:07The winter lobster hunting season is underway.
00:10It is shit, Bryce, but what the f*** do you want to do?
00:13Risking it all in pursuit of the world's most prized seafood delicacy
00:18is a fleet of young gun lobstermen.
00:21If Bryce tries to work out the top of me again today,
00:23I'm going to get f***ing really wild.
00:26And a canny old sea dog, a lobster hunting legend.
00:30I'm absolutely torn to bits thinking that I could go to Pedro and catch nothing.
00:34That's a huge gamble.
00:37There's a f***ing rock here somewhere, Johnny.
00:41Ah, f*** me.
00:42Did it do any damage?
00:43It might be bad.
00:45Not very flush this morning.
01:01Early morning, day four at sea.
01:04Ah, you f***.
01:05Ah, you f***.
01:06And team Pira is under pressure.
01:09Two lousy little old females.
01:12Hey, hermit crabs.
01:14Hermit crabs won't buy me beer.
01:18Yeah, we're just not...
01:20Not seeing a lot of fish at the moment.
01:22Ah!
01:23The reason I do these long hours is because I've got a lot of financial pressure.
01:30Ah, a pot full of ladies.
01:33I've got about a $700,000 investment in my boat.
01:37Nice nuggety fish.
01:39I've basically got to come up with about $10,000 a month just to pay the insurance and the loan repayments.
01:44Miles!
01:47Miles is under huge financial strain.
01:50He has to make every shot count.
01:53I'll just wait until you've finished sorting before we go to the next one.
01:56I've only got Tim.
01:58He's running the deck by himself.
02:00Things are just taking too long.
02:02Hey, that pot f*** nearly fell over the side, I reckon.
02:05Yeah, I know.
02:09Ah, f*** me!
02:11It's f***ing.
02:14It's f***ing.
02:15It's f***ing.
02:16It's f***ing.
02:17It's too long.
02:18If we don't get these pots up in, you know, in a reasonable amount of time,
02:23well, we're going to end up missing out on having a day shot.
02:27That's the rub of running with just one decky.
02:30You save on wages, but everything takes longer.
02:36F***ing.
02:37You've just got to ease up.
02:38F***ing.
02:39F***ing.
02:40I'm starting to regret just taking one crew, to be quite honest.
02:49There's a f***ing rock here somewhere, Johnny.
02:51Port Davie.
02:54And Jack also has a few regrets of his own.
02:57Ah, f*** me.
02:59Just f***ing hit a rock on this side.
03:01He's just moated into a rock.
03:03We hit pretty hard.
03:04F***ing me.
03:05F***ing me.
03:06We're chife.
03:07The rocks are just like daggers.
03:08The sound of steel hitting quartzite is every skipper's worst nightmare.
03:09We're not on top of anything, but we're definitely in a rock on the side.
03:23We run the risk of punching a hole into the boat.
03:26We could go down in minutes.
03:28They're 20 hours from port, and help from a rescue chopper is an hour's flight away.
03:34I need to go check the engine room.
03:37It could be in for a well to hurt.
03:39Especially if the water comes straight in on the genset.
03:42The engine room's our heart and soul of the boat.
03:45Without that, we're dead in the water.
03:55How many beasts is in this one?
03:56It's a nice red one.
03:58That's what you call a beautiful Fry's Southern Rock Lobster.
04:02Beautiful.
04:03Nice dark red colour to him.
04:05Bryce's decision to move into the shallows is paying off.
04:09Lobsters over two kilos are currently fetching the highest price on the market
04:14at $85 a kilo.
04:18We're on our third bid and we haven't even got 30 pots up, Jock.
04:21There's some good numbers this morning for a shot on the reds.
04:26Very good. Very happy.
04:28Lockie might be happy, but his boss is not.
04:36Bryce is still hurting from yesterday's soft numbers
04:39versus the rest of the fleet.
04:41He's fallen into third place with 362 lobsters.
04:47Leading the tally board is Squizzy with 418 lobsters.
04:53Miles has bagged 397.
04:56And the Buran boys are coming last with 257 inshore reds.
05:01Look, it is frustrating when Squizzy gets a lot more than me.
05:07However, he's also got a lot more experience than me.
05:09So there's Miles.
05:10Are you starting to smile, Brycey?
05:13Nah, not yet.
05:14That's better.
05:15Are you happy, Bryce, today?
05:16I'm happy if I keep coming like this.
05:17Come on, mate.
05:18A little smile on that face, eh?
05:19Nah, it's not enough.
05:20A little smile.
05:21It's not enough.
05:22It's not enough.
05:23This is what we needed.
05:24I hope this brings Bryce's spirits up a little bit.
05:26He's already brightening up a bit, eh?
05:27Right, right, right.
05:28You can hear it in his voice.
05:29It's changed.
05:30Yeah.
05:31It's nice.
05:32This is exceptional red fishing for where we are right now.
05:36We've got 30 pots and five bins, mate.
05:39Woo!
05:40Let's go.
05:41Woo!
05:42Yeah!
05:43We've got it!
05:44It's a lobster dance.
05:45Of sorts.
05:46I reckon that if the other two knew what numbers you could get inshore in the reds,
05:50they'd both be in here.
05:51120 off of 30.
05:52Oh, yeah.
05:53Oh, yeah.
05:54Oh, yeah.
05:55Oh, yeah.
05:56Oh, yeah.
05:57Oh, yeah.
05:58Oh, yeah.
05:59Oh, yeah.
06:00Oh, yeah.
06:01Oh, yeah.
06:02Oh, yeah.
06:03Oh, yeah.
06:04Oh, yeah.
06:05Oh, yeah.
06:06Oh, yeah.
06:07Oh, yeah.
06:08120 off of 30.
06:09I'm very happy with that.
06:11I was 60 to 80 expecting, but we glitched that.
06:16The shot could be huge.
06:18A potential game-changer for Bryce.
06:21My only thing is now, is the second half going to be as good.
06:24That's why we're going fishing, baby!
06:30We hit pretty hard, though.
06:31I was just double-checking.
06:33Jack is assessing the damage to his boat.
06:36It doesn't seem to be any water coming in at this stage.
06:38I've checked down in the bilges.
06:39I've checked the side of the boat.
06:41Checked the welds.
06:42I think we're all good.
06:44I'm glad we got away from that unscathed.
06:49Still got proper steering.
06:51That boat's not shaking, so I didn't touch the prop.
06:53Yeah, pretty close call, really.
06:55Like, could have been another couple of foot more to that side.
06:58Might have been a different story, but...
07:00We weren't going very fast.
07:02I was actually out of gear, thank Christ.
07:04So we didn't hit it with much steam on.
07:07Hit pretty hard, didn't it?
07:09Risk versus reward, mate.
07:11That's right.
07:12And it wouldn't be a good pond.
07:14It wouldn't be a f***ing pond.
07:16It will be.
07:17I have faith.
07:19It's a nice day to be a deckhand.
07:28Yeah!
07:29South of the Friars, the crew of the Bold Contender
07:32is under attack from octopus.
07:37Yeah, they've been a bit slow today.
07:39Every pond was pulled.
07:41Had ocky fish in it.
07:42They're all dead.
07:45When the full moon's up, octopus just go crazy.
07:48Octopus are my number one enemy.
07:50I hate them.
07:51Squizzy has a choice to make.
07:53Stick and stay and fight off the octopus.
07:57Or motor to Pedra Branca for a fresh restart.
08:01If we go to Pedra and there's nothing there,
08:04what's at stake is money.
08:07I don't know what I'm doing yet.
08:08Just see how the next few go.
08:11If they improve down to the south, we'll keep rolling.
08:14It's too early to tell.
08:16We'll pull another half a dozen.
08:18We'll have a talk about it.
08:19Yes.
08:28I tried to f***ing avoid hitting any more rocks today, bud.
08:32Jack and Johnny were lucky.
08:34Yeah, that's right.
08:35We've got to get close to the rocks to get the lobsters out.
08:37Jack's pride has taken an unexpected hit.
08:41Thankfully, his boat, the Burra, remains seaworthy.
08:45So, just after we hit the rock last night,
08:47we actually shot a pot straight on top of it,
08:49or straight next to it, you know?
08:50So, we've got to be pretty careful when we get this one back.
08:54As you can see, it's the top of the rock here poking out of the water.
08:58The bull kelp's sort of sitting on top of it.
09:01So, that's just a bit of a cushion if you do hit it,
09:05but it's still not ideal.
09:06All the rope's just tangled up in all this kelp here,
09:11and it's just really difficult to actually get a bit of the rope
09:15because none of it's exposed.
09:19Spot on. Dead-eyed dick.
09:25All right, Johnny, put that on the hauler, mate.
09:27I think it's off again.
09:29Ah.
09:32Throwing a grapple is not easy.
09:34It weighs close to a kilo.
09:39Every deckhand has their own technique to get the job done.
09:43I've done this same thing beforehand
09:44and snapped off grapples and lost grapples
09:46and lost the pots at the end of the day too.
09:49Oh, ****.
09:50I've got the rope, I've got the rope.
09:54Let's hold that firm so it doesn't fall off the rope.
09:56I just want to get away from the rock a bit.
09:59Ah, put it on the hauler.
10:04If I stand there, Johnny, that snaps and that grapple ****
10:07comes off and hits you in the face.
10:09Yeah, this rock's given me all sorts of nightmares.
10:13At this stage, I just want to get these potbacks,
10:15get away from this rock and leave it alone.
10:18There she goes.
10:19Get it on the hauler, dude.
10:23Don't wait for it to sink.
10:31We've got the potbacks, got it all safe.
10:33Got a couple of fish in it.
10:35Didn't hit the rock again.
10:36Ah.
10:37Good job.
10:38Ten.
10:39Good, Eddie.
10:40And thankfully, it's got a couple of nice fish in it for us too.
10:41Nice red ones.
10:42We'll take a ten every day of the week.
10:43Maybe this rock isn't so cursed after all.
10:44So far, so slow.
10:45And we are not seeing many fish at the moment.
10:47Bryce's bumper start to hit the ground.
10:48We've got a couple of nice fish in it for us too.
10:49Nice red ones.
10:51We'll take a ten every day of the week.
10:53Maybe this rock isn't so cursed after all.
10:56So far, so slow.
10:57And we are not seeing many fish at the moment.
11:11Bryce's bumper start to his shot has hit a snag.
11:16It all looked so promising.
11:19Until it wasn't.
11:21I'd like to see 50-odd out of this.
11:24Try and get us around the 170 mark.
11:26Are we getting one or two at least?
11:32Some jockeys for you.
11:35Can Jock get a jockey?
11:37Can he get his first jockey or jockeys?
11:39A jockey is a lobster that's on the outside of the pot.
11:42So that lobster's travelled the whole way from the bottom,
11:44about a hundred metres down,
11:46and come all the way to the boat, hanging on.
11:49He had two chances at it and he got one.
11:51He got one. He had a 50% chance.
11:52That's alright.
11:53They were both undersized anyway.
11:54That's alright.
11:56It's training mate.
11:59Sometimes as they break the surface, they'll jump off.
12:01So you've got to be quick to grab them on and get them in.
12:07If you can catch that lobster and it's sized,
12:10it's meant to bring you luck.
12:13And good luck is just what they need.
12:17We've finished pulling all the gear now.
12:18Lockie's counting the fish down.
12:19Jock's just baiting the last pot.
12:21What do we get?
12:23Got 40 out of that lot.
12:2640?
12:2740.
12:28Oh, nice.
12:2940.
12:31160 for the night shot.
12:32It's good.
12:33It's a good start.
12:34You know, the reds are worth $15 more a kilo than the brindles,
12:36so ideally that 160 is worth like 250 brindles, you know,
12:41so can't complain about that really.
12:43Everyone's going to get a payday.
12:44I'm just hoping that the day shot can follow suit.
12:47Here's Myles.
12:49Myles is in sight.
12:51Sailing ship.
12:57That make 48, does it?
12:58Yep.
13:00The Pira crew is down on sleep and lobster numbers.
13:05Bro, I'll be happy if we get anywhere over 100.
13:09Don't know.
13:10Be close.
13:11And then there's the issue of operating with just one decky.
13:15Burn all the diesel and the bait and, you know,
13:17all the food and everything else that goes with it.
13:20For me to operate this boat,
13:21at least one or a couple hundred fish a day.
13:24And that means Myles must be able to drop at least two shots a day.
13:32Ah!
13:34Timmy's starting to show the early signs of exhaustion,
13:37and it's no surprise as the Pira is second on the tally board.
13:42Jack's the only other single decky skipper,
13:45and he's coming last.
13:47Apparently I've lost the plot with the brindles,
13:49but I still remember how to catch a red fish.
13:50So this is a fouled pot jammed in the bottom.
14:00It's taken us so long to get these pots up,
14:03and now we've got a stuck pole.
14:05So you've got to just, you've got to drive up over it
14:07to try and pull it right out above it.
14:10We should already be shooting our day shot in,
14:13and now I've got to try and focus to get this pot unstuck.
14:17And we might even lose this pot.
14:20When you're putting tension on that pot,
14:22and it won't come free,
14:24the line will generally shoot off the pot hauler.
14:27And when that rope shoots out of the hauler,
14:29it's just like a whip.
14:31If that hits you in the face, you know,
14:32I mean, that's going to really hurt.
14:34Generally when you get a stuck pot,
14:38it's usually a few crows in it.
14:40It means you've got right in a nice hole in the bottom.
14:51So that's out now.
14:54This is a really good relief.
14:55It puts a bit of a lighter mood on things.
14:58Oh, **** you.
15:00We've really got to get going here
15:01because we're way behind the eight ball.
15:03A few fish about here.
15:05It's good.
15:15How many reckon we had, Tim?
15:16About 120.
15:18151.
15:20Yeah, that's way better than I thought.
15:21That's where we need to be.
15:23151 more lobsters in the tank
15:26brings their running total to 548.
15:30I'm actually a little bit shocked.
15:31I thought we did really bad.
15:33But those last 10 or 15 pots
15:34really got us out of the woods.
15:37Oh, squeezy, fine.
15:38They're catching **** all.
15:40No, we've been going all right.
15:41Yeah.
15:42Nothing has happened.
15:54There has been a couple of good pots this morning,
15:56so that's all right.
15:57But, yeah, definitely thinking we should move to Pedro.
16:00We got 108 this morning, nice big ones.
16:06Sometimes you think, why would you leave 108?
16:11The bold contender is flatlining.
16:14It's crunch time.
16:15I'm going to go.
16:16We're going to take the gambling go.
16:19You know, it was a good day yesterday, 270-odd.
16:23But the ditch is too bad, not the scratch.
16:28I just hope it pays off.
16:29The moon phase is good for Pedro.
16:32I always do pretty well there on a full moon.
16:35Pros, if they're going, bigger fish, nice run.
16:43If it ain't going, it's a disaster.
16:47If we lose money on fuel and food and time,
16:50we'll just take it out Jesse's boat.
16:52Hey, I didn't eat for the first three days, so...
16:54Oh, you'll save this money.
16:59This is what Pedra Branca looks like.
17:02A casino in the sea where fortunes can be made and lost.
17:07It's a two-and-a-half-hour steam south-west of the Friars.
17:11Pedra's known for its big lobsters,
17:14and right now, big is best.
17:17At Pedra, you can catch red lobsters
17:19in the shallow waters around the rocks,
17:21and you can catch brindles in the deeper water.
17:24One hundred one-kilo brindles, priced at $55 a kilo,
17:28are worth $5,500.
17:31One hundred two-kilo big reds, priced at $85 a kilo,
17:36are worth $17,000.
17:39Size matters.
17:41Sometimes you can catch both at the same time.
17:43You can have a night shot on the reds,
17:44and a day shot on the brindles,
17:45but sometimes the reds might be running
17:47and the brindles are not, or vice versa.
17:49So, Pedra's got its own mind.
17:51It's the boss.
17:54And I just hope it welcomes the bowl contender this time.
17:58Come on, baby.
18:02Let's pray to the lobster gods
18:04there's something out there for us.
18:06Look at that!
18:08That's her!
18:10They say there's a pot of gold at the end of every rainbow.
18:12I hope that's a sign.
18:14Well, is there anything in that one?
18:28One for that one.
18:29These ones over here, I left them down a bit.
18:32That was f***ing shit hot yesterday.
18:3498.
18:36Jack's pots are off the boil.
18:38A little bit slow this morning.
18:39The first few pots were amazing.
18:42But the last sort of 15 to 20 pots,
18:47we're only getting ones and twos.
18:48Yeah, so we like to,
18:50we like to try and get a hundred,
18:52you know, every morning.
18:54We need f***ing seven more fish, Johnny.
18:57We need seven more.
18:58Get a hundred.
18:59A hundred a night shot.
19:01Maybe half that for a day shot.
19:02Yeah, you're putting fish on the boat
19:04by the end of the trip.
19:05And hitting target means turning a profit.
19:08Come on, little snappy toms.
19:11Oh, there we go.
19:12Yeah.
19:15Oh.
19:16Gonna be a f***ing battle, Johnny.
19:18This stage, it's pretty touch and go.
19:21Oh.
19:24Couldn't be, couldn't be.
19:29Close.
19:30No.
19:31No.
19:34Nope.
19:36We're on 99,
19:37so I'm just f***ing praying
19:39this last spot's got one in it for us.
19:42And then one more for a hundred, Johnny.
19:47Ernie.
19:48A hundred.
19:49One up.
19:50A couple figures.
19:51That's all we want.
19:53Dear beauty, the last spot's come up.
19:55We've got one out of it.
19:57100 lobsters takes their running tally to 357.
20:02Yeah, definitely happy.
20:05I think it might be time to move on from there
20:07and have a look somewhere else.
20:11Find something a bit fresh.
20:12If the fish aren't very good here today, well, we could, um,
20:25we could end up having a pretty bad shot, you know?
20:27Boop!
20:30Miles is betting on Brindles for the day.
20:33But out here, there's no such thing as a safe bet.
20:36Yo!
20:37Miles!
20:38We come down to a secret spot.
20:39We'll see how we go.
20:40What's that?
20:41Where'd the big bucks go?
20:42Where'd the big bucks go?
20:43So you're going to Pedro, eh?
20:44Or?
20:45Yeah, we're coming down for a look.
20:46Are you going to let me know if you find a few fish down there or what?
20:47Oh, I don't know.
20:48You know me.
20:49Yeah, I know.
20:50Well, if you're hanging around down there, I'll know something's going on.
20:51I'll do a, I'll do a Bryce on you.
20:52I'll come and follow the line.
20:53Whatever Squizzy's going to tell me, I'm going to take a big grain of salt.
20:54Look, if we get the Pedro and the fish are running all right, it's hard to tell the truth.
20:55I'm going to let you know.
20:56I'm going to let me know if you find a few fish down there or what?
21:00Oh, I don't know.
21:01You know me.
21:02Yeah, I know.
21:03Well, if you're hanging around down there, I'll know something's going on.
21:08I'll do a Bryce on you.
21:11I'll come and follow the line.
21:14Whatever Squizzy's going to tell me, I'm going to take a big grain of salt.
21:19Look, if we get the Pedro and the fish are running all right, it's hard to tell the truth.
21:22Because you know other boats are going to come.
21:25The big gamble coming down here.
21:27I'm a bit jealous if, you know, if they're on down there, but...
21:31All right then, mate.
21:32Hopefully you go well down there.
21:34All right, mate.
21:35Take care.
21:36Be safe.
21:37See ya.
21:38I think Miles is jealous I went to Pedro because I got away from Bryce first.
21:42I mean, Bryce has given me his shits.
21:45He's been shitting his pots all around me and it's just sort of starting to wear a bit to
21:49him, to be honest.
21:50Bang!
21:51Oh, we're on!
21:52The pots aren't looking very good at all for this first half, which...
22:01I had a feeling it was going to happen, but...
22:04What do you do?
22:05What do you do?
22:06It's all a big gamble this and...
22:09Look, like Loki always says, it's not over until the last pot's pulled.
22:14Because that's how fishing works.
22:16Whoa!
22:20Ratatouille's!
22:21The pots are coming up with fish.
22:22It's what we want to see, but...
22:24It's just rats.
22:25It's just rats.
22:26Lots and lots of undersized fish.
22:27I'd just like a great day to top off the great morning, so I can have a great sleep and wake
22:35up tomorrow and start again and probably get shat on, because that's how fishing works.
22:40Bryce is hoping to lift his day shot numbers.
22:43Bryce!
22:44You okay?
22:45Well, I'm not good.
22:46You're not working hard enough, to be honest.
22:48I had to wait for Jock to move.
22:50There's no reason to work hard.
22:52You're not catching any frickin' lobsters.
22:54Oh!
22:55Oh!
22:56If my deck boss could throw them in when I'm told, you know, then...
23:02We all know that I'm not pushing him in.
23:05Jock is.
23:06Did you teach him?
23:07Yes.
23:08Is it your responsibility?
23:09No.
23:10He's yours.
23:11You're the master of the vessel.
23:12I'm giving you the responsibility that he's your responsibility.
23:14Yeah, but still technically it's your responsibility.
23:16You're the master of the vessel.
23:17Therefore, you are liable for any and everything that happens to him.
23:20You're just talking shit now.
23:22Hey, Jock!
23:23Bryce is smiling.
23:24I made him smile.
23:27The young gun has a lot to prove to himself and to others.
23:33Smiling?
23:34I can't believe all that at the moment.
23:36There's too many things that are weighing me down.
23:39We're not catching enough.
23:40They'll need more to beat Squizzy.
23:42Squizzy, you don't smile.
23:43I don't want to smile.
23:44I wouldn't want to smile with a mustache like that.
23:46What?
23:47It's called a goatee.
23:50He's got a goatee at the moment.
23:51He's always had one.
23:52I don't look at him that much.
23:53You do look at him.
23:54You look at a photo of him every night before you go to sleep.
23:56Yeah, all you do is think about him.
23:57Kiss it.
23:58Oh, Squizzy.
23:59Good night, Squizzy.
24:00I hope I caught more than you.
24:01I'll see you in the morning.
24:02Oh, Squizzy.
24:03I'm not sure what sort of beard Squizzy has.
24:05I mean, it's definitely better than mine, but it definitely looks like a bird's shadow.
24:08Yep.
24:09Yep.
24:10Yep.
24:11Yep.
24:12Season skipper Squizzy has perfectly timed his arrival at Pedra to squeeze in a day shot.
24:25I love fishing out at Pedra when it's good, but when it's bad, it's an arse over place.
24:34Yep.
24:35Yep.
24:36I've got a new crew.
24:37It's their first time out there.
24:41The conditions are different out there.
24:43It's a long way out.
24:45It's a long way to help.
24:53Oh, what's going on now?
24:56Look out.
24:57Look out.
24:59Let it go.
25:00Just let it go.
25:01Get out of the way.
25:02The bold contender is in trouble.
25:04Wait, I'll take the pressure off it.
25:06Stay there, Jess.
25:07Two pots have accidentally got tied together.
25:11That pot can drag you over the side, and you ain't gonna swim with a 40-kilo pot wrapped
25:16around you.
25:24You know what's done that?
25:26I know.
25:27The loop over a pole.
25:29You know when you get a loop around a pole?
25:33Because the two new crew, they don't understand exactly if there's a loop around a pole or anything like that.
25:42So, the two pots we just shot were still connected through the boat through another hooked up line,
25:49which pulled the next pot out of Rhino's grip and into the horns.
25:55And that's why I yelled out to Jesse, get out of the way, because that pot, that pot's sitting there,
26:03and all that wants to do is take off the boat.
26:09When you see shit like that, just stand out of the way.
26:11Let it go.
26:12Both of you, just let it go.
26:14It's the same when a pot slips off them horns when we're pulling it.
26:18Yeah.
26:19Don't try and f***ing on to it, just let it go.
26:23You can replace a pot, but you can't replace your crew.
26:27Safety first.
26:29And that's why we have dives on the boat, and up on the rail up there.
26:34I'd rather lose a pot or two than hurt someone.
26:37Doc, do you think Bryce needs to hurry up?
26:47I think we just need to catch more craze.
26:49That's what I think.
26:50But yeah, look, I'll give it up on that now.
26:53Bryce is desperate for some bumper pots.
26:57Oh, my goodness, that's a loaded pot.
27:00A loaded pot?
27:02Yeah.
27:03Just spill it out the neck, mate.
27:05That sails a good-sized crate, too.
27:06Great, too.
27:08Look at this.
27:09Spilling out the bloody neck.
27:11Nice lobster.
27:12Don't even need to measure him.
27:14Beautiful.
27:16If you don't get ten out of that, I will be very, very surprised.
27:18Plus two.
27:20Three.
27:21We could be onto something.
27:22What's that saying, Lockie?
27:23One pot can make you a whole week?
27:25One pot can make you a whole shot.
27:26How many got out of that one, Joggy?
27:27Six.
27:28Seven.
27:30As if he gets ten.
27:31Eight.
27:32Eight.
27:33Nine.
27:34Woo!
27:35Eleven.
27:36Eleven?
27:38Fifteen, Brycey!
27:39It's lobster dance number two.
27:41Oh!
27:45The largest number of lobsters in a single pot for the season.
27:50Fifteen's good.
27:51Fifteen's a good start.
27:52I know there's more down there, so I want to see the twenties.
27:55Fifteen was good.
27:56It's got us back up to, like, a shitty level.
27:59We went from a really shit level to a shitty level.
28:04So I've been on the boat with Dad when we've caught a stupid amount in a very, very short period of time, and fifteen was a low number for that shot.
28:13Dad always loved the fries and going out offshore, and a lot of people say that's where his wealth was made.
28:18It's a really good area to learn, and you can catch some really nice lobsters here.
28:22All right, Jonathan.
28:23You ready?
28:24Jonathan.
28:25Let's go.
28:26Port Davey, and Jack and Johnny are hoping that today's day shot for Brindles will see their luck change.
28:40Come on, mother f***ers.
28:43Ah, just about a full on the day shot, so.
28:47This one's coming out at 36, 37,000.
28:50Hopefully more than zero.
28:52Hopefully have something in it, but we'll see to see.
28:56We don't want another f***ing repeated yesterday, really.
29:00F***ing bullshit.
29:01Yesterday's day shot, though, 22.
29:04That wouldn't have even covered the costs for the diesel, so.
29:07We've got bills to pay, we've got families to feed, so we really need to put some fish on this boat,
29:12and put some numbers on.
29:17They're still a-sleaky boys, mate.
29:22The bell.
29:25Ah, the Brindles here are f***ing dead.
29:28Seem to be doing nothing.
29:30They might have to stick to the red ones, I think, Johnny.
29:34These boat sailors couldn't be any fuller.
29:36Yeah.
29:37They've got a f***ing three-course meal here, but they're not going, are they?
29:42I can see the pods coming off the bottom on the sounder.
29:44They're coming off beautiful bottom.
29:45They've landed exactly how I wanted them to, but it's just, it's just a waste of f***ing time at the moment.
29:53Hey, buddy, how you going?
29:56Hey!
29:57What are you doing?
29:58Ah, pulling a day shot again, mate.
30:00Oh, bloody day shooting.
30:02Yeah.
30:03I'll tell you what, they're f***ing sad round here every day time.
30:07Sad.
30:08F***ing very sad.
30:09They're pretty sad here too, to be honest.
30:11Yeah, so we've just pulled two tens in a row, a nine, and then Locky's got a half smile on his face.
30:17I think he's pulling another seven, eight out of this pot.
30:19I thought you said they were sad.
30:20Yeah, they're sad when I'm not catching them.
30:22That's about it.
30:23Typical Bryce though.
30:25His cockiness is coming out.
30:27He's bragging.
30:28He's trying to be humble, but he's not.
30:30You know, he's just typical Bryce.
30:32All right.
30:33F*** off.
30:34All right, see you later.
30:37I feel sorry for him, but just like his boat, it's tough as nails and so is he, and I'm sure he'll get through it.
30:45That's how f*** the lobsters can be, mate.
30:47F***ing Bryce is whacking the data out of the brindle's priors, and they are just non-existent here.
30:52Just dead.
31:00Come on.
31:03Come on.
31:08Yeah, a little bit nervous.
31:11This is judgment day out here.
31:14Pedro Branca, where fortunes can be made and lost.
31:20After 35 years, I still get nervous, but that's part of the thrill.
31:25You never know what you're going to get.
31:26When I make a, you know, a big decision like we did this morning to leave fish and come somewhere else, yeah, it puts you on edge a little bit.
31:39We just got to get them big fish to crawl into our pots.
31:44Yeah, just a bigger run of fish out here when they're going.
31:47You don't get all the rats.
31:48And bigger lobsters mean a bigger paycheck.
31:57Get an 80 out here, it's like 120, 130 in there.
32:05In there, so.
32:06As long as we see a sign, I will work.
32:11Yeah, I'll be happy with waiting today.
32:15Boom, boom.
32:17That's not the sign they were hoping for.
32:21And the first pot's up.
32:23It's not looking flash.
32:26Long way to go, though.
32:31We've got one out the first one.
32:32Oh, yeah.
32:37To hit his target of 80 large lobsters, Squizzy needs at least two per pot.
32:44Come on, baby, come on.
32:52Come on, Pedro, come on.
32:57Rub the wood.
32:58Rub that wood.
32:59Can you imagine going to the casino and you lose $1,000?
33:04When you wake up the next day, you don't feel real good.
33:08That's how I feel right now.
33:11Times ten.
33:15**** it.
33:23Yeah, it's a lot of effort to go to a **** hole at the end of the day.
33:26At the end of the day.
33:29The pressure is on Jack to turn a profit after yesterday's dismal performance.
33:35So we've pulled 22 pots so far for this shot and we've only got four **** fish.
33:41Very disheartening, mate.
33:43I am going to cry myself to sleep tonight for sure.
33:47Starting to double guess what I'm doing.
33:50I am catching **** cold today.
33:54Gonna be so embarrassing on TV.
34:01Jack is in the red.
34:02They're not hungry, they're not moving, I don't know what it is.
34:06Now we've got perfect weather, but they're just not ears.
34:09I've got one pot to go.
34:11Out of our 30th per day shot, we've got seven fish.
34:21Come on.
34:23Squizzy's praying to the lobster gods.
34:28Ah.
34:32Most of the fish we have on board at the moment are under a kilo.
34:37So low end of the price bracket.
34:41We need to try and find a few over a kilo.
34:44And there's only one place I really know is here.
34:55Oh, come on.
34:57Yeah!
34:59That's what we're ****ing talking about, squigs.
35:02Yeah, baby!
35:04That's what we're talking about.
35:06Hello, ladies!
35:10**** yeah, that's a big dog.
35:11A Pedro dog is a nice big lobster.
35:14That's what we're here for.
35:16Come on!
35:17Pedro dogs!
35:20That's the money fish, baby.
35:22Leave it, Doctor!
35:24We're setting these two straight back.
35:28Female!
35:30See, a little size of that female, he's going to measure it as a male.
35:32He hasn't realised yet.
35:35Female!
35:37That's why I checked the fish, because Rhino's excited, we've had a good pot, and he's just put a sized female in the day tank.
35:47But I'll pick that up when I go to measure.
35:50If he was measuring straight into the tank then, the holding tank, that could be the end of my career fishing.
35:55You've got massive fines, and your reputation in this industry is shot to ****.
36:02Caught me unawares, that one.
36:04The only person that measures into the holding tank of the bowl contender is me.
36:07Seven.
36:08Eight.
36:09Oh!
36:10Nine!
36:11Ten!
36:12Ten!
36:13Ten!
36:14Woohoo!
36:15Bryce's run of bumper pods has lifted everyone's spirits.
36:18A hundred and sixty on the knocker gives us three hundred and twenty for the day.
36:19At his daylight, Luna's out.
36:20Shit, it's mint!
36:21It's not even raining on us anymore.
36:22Dinner's already cooking!
36:23Oh yeah!
36:24Woohoo!
36:25Woohoo!
36:26Woohoo!
36:27Bryce's run of bumper pods has lifted everyone's spirits.
36:33A hundred and sixty on the knocker gives us three hundred and twenty for the day.
36:38At his daylight, Luna's out.
36:42Shit, it's mint!
36:44It's not even raining on us anymore!
36:45Dinner's already cooking!
36:46Oh yeah!
36:47Woohoo!
36:482,000 fish doesn't seem too far away if we can keep up these numbers.
36:55I'm happy now.
36:56I'm sure the old man will be happy.
36:58If I tell him what we've got for the day, his first words are going to be, how can you
37:01get better?
37:02And that's what I'll plan on doing tomorrow.
37:05If I don't do that, then he doesn't need to know about it.
37:10Yeah, beautiful sized pot.
37:17I've got eight out of him already.
37:19Miles has some decisions to make.
37:24His decision to run with just one deckie is weighing heavily on his mind.
37:29First half of the gear was absolutely shit.
37:32Probably would have been lucky to have 30 fish.
37:38Then, out of the last four pots we had like 30 fish.
37:45That's how easy it can change.
37:47Eleven!
37:48Eleven.
37:49So, it seems to be we're starting to see some pretty good pots.
37:54Yeah, we had a 12 there before, which is good.
38:00Yeah, that's the big thing I guess.
38:02Don't drop your head when you're having a shit morning, because it can turn around just
38:07like that.
38:08One more after this.
38:09That last one's our big one too.
38:13Yeah, I want to knock off so I can go to the pub, man.
38:25Considering a piss poor start, we finished off alright.
38:30I don't know if we're going to beat Squeezy or Bryce, but you know, I'm not really too worried
38:35about what they're doing as long as we can get a few fish and make a bit of money.
38:40So, what's that?
38:41That is 138.
38:42138.
38:43138.
38:44Well, that's alright.
38:45I thought it was only going to get 38 to start with, but that was pretty sad.
38:50It would have been alright if I was all like them last f***ing 20 pots.
38:54Yeah.
38:55Yeah, no, we're happy.
38:56We're happy.
38:57We'll just try for more tomorrow.
39:00As long as we go in with more fish than Bryce and Jack and Squeezy, I'll be happy.
39:07Oh, hello!
39:08What have we got going on?
39:09Yeah!
39:10You're beauty!
39:11Squeezy's hit the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.
39:25Big lobsters, tractors, donkeys, Pedro dogs, whatever.
39:30Name them anything you want.
39:32Yep.
39:33I'd like to see more.
39:35Always want more.
39:36If it weighs, it pays.
39:42That's eight.
39:43Tank in there is looking pretty reasonable.
39:46Not massive numbers, but big fish.
39:48And we want big fish.
39:50We want more of these babies.
39:52Woo-hoo!
39:57Yeah, baby!
39:58Nine!
39:59Yop, yop, yop, yop!
40:01We rolled the dice on this one, mate.
40:02We come to Pedro and it's paid for.
40:15I think we're going to have 142.
40:19I need to know.
40:21The suspense is just killing me.
40:24121.
40:25I'm pretty stoked with that.
40:29Wasn't a bad day, sir.
40:30Oh!
40:32Look at that.
40:33Winner winner.
40:34If you don't laugh, you cry, I think.
40:37It's been a good day for everyone, except Jack.
40:40With a day shot of just eight lobsters, he's still languishing in fourth place with 365 lobsters.
40:49I'm going to go cry.
40:50And the lobster legend, the old sea dog, the one they all want to beat, is in third place.
41:03Bryce is coming second on 682.
41:07And the big winner is Miles, who's back on top with 686 lobsters.
41:14Today is a day for the young guns.
41:16It's an emotional rollercoaster.
41:19And it always is.
41:20If tomorrow morning goes well, like I hope it is, then there's no reason that tomorrow afternoon,
41:26there could be 300, 400 just in a shot.
41:29The game will work for.
41:31That's paid off today.
41:32Time will kill.
41:33Out here, it is a strange place.
41:35We're going to have to do something different in the next few days, though.
41:37Hopefully, we're going to have something to pull us out of the shit, because we are deep in it at this stage.
41:46We're going to have a gerçek ball, and we're going to have a chance.
41:47This is going to have a great surprise.
41:48That's when we watch the way After every week, it else iserto.
41:50That's the tra away from each other.
41:52What have we done the way?
41:53Only a year came to gently.
41:54I'm ready, that's why we can't harm them, but not unless people, we'll get back on it.
41:55We've been waiting for a few minutes.
41:57We have to do someenkoë‚´ saiaksi.
41:59We're gonna get back all the time.
42:01Thoseוגans could drill into the movement by Masters of State.
42:03That's why we can't let the police team go out.
42:05You can find there.
42:07They've reached that time.
42:09It's been good for llamszy Unai.
