00:03A release date has been set for the upcoming movie version of Cats that is set to star
00:08Taylor Swift, Jennifer Hudson and more superstars.
00:17The film version of the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical will pounce into theaters on December 20, 2019.
00:23Production on Cats is set to take place later this year in the UK, with more cast due to be announced soon.
00:29Swift, Hudson, James Corden and Ian McKellen are all set to star in the Universal film,
00:34which will be directed by Les Mis movie director Tom Hooper.
00:38Sources told THR in July that Hudson will play Grizabella, a former glamour cat ostracized by the tribe of cats
00:44known as the Jellicles. The character sings the musical's powerhouse song, which I'm sure you know, Memory.
00:55McKellen will play Old Deuteronomy, the elderly Jellicle leader. And the character,
00:59the cat queen herself and my personal queen, Swift is being eyed for Bumble Arena, a flirtatious red cat.
01:10Now, as any theater dork like myself knows, the musical tells the story of the Jellicle cats and the night
01:15they make what is known as the Jellicle Choice, aka decide which cat will ascend to the heavy side layer
01:21and come back to a new life. But get this, the December 20th release date means Cats will be opening
01:26opposite the next Star Wars film, J.J. Abrams Episode 9. Also set for that date is the Murder on the Orient Express
