Twenty-nine new electric buses are now serving major routes across the North East, as part of a multi-million-pound investment in cleaner public transport.

00:00A new fleet of zero-emission electric buses has been launched on some of the North East's
00:06busiest routes. Twenty-nine vehicles will operate on the Angel 21 between Newcastle
00:12and Durham, the X66 to the Metro Centre and Service 58 to Heweth. The £17 million investment
00:20is expected to benefit more than 5 million passengers each year. The buses were unveiled
00:25in Newcastle with ministers, regional leaders, operators and local school pupils attending.
00:31Organisers say the UK-built vehicles are quieter, more reliable and support cleaner air across
00:37the region as part of wider plans to expand electric bus travel on key corridors in the coming years,
00:43say officials.
