Residents of Greenland expressed cautious relief after U.S. President Donald Trump said force was “off the table” regarding Greenland during his speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos. While many welcomed the statement as reassuring, locals said uncertainty remains due to Trump’s past remarks about taking Greenland “the hard way.”
Boat captain Isak Brandt said the comments brought “huge relief” after weeks of concern, but warned that trust remains limited. Tour guide Ivi Luna Olsen echoed the sentiment, saying she was relieved yet still preparing “for the worst,” given Trump’s unpredictable rhetoric.
The reactions underline lingering anxiety in Greenland, where people remain wary despite Trump’s public backing away from a forceful takeover, as global attention stays focused on Arctic security and geopolitics.

00:29I would say a lot actually. It feels like a huge relief in many ways because of course I and many other Greenlandic people have been super worried about what might happen because there have been talks about using force so it makes me super relieved but again you never know with Donald Trump.
