A National Day of Mourning is being observed to honour the victims of the Bondi terror attack. Fifteen people were killed when the two gunmen opened fire on the Chanukah by the Sea event. Rabbi Yosef Eichenblatt survived. He spoke with News Breakfast.

00:01We're at the stage, the 30-day mark, the shloshim of the morning cycle in Judaism,
00:07and the feelings are finally starting to settle, and it's tough.
00:13But we also remember that however dark it can be, we always have a candle that we can illuminate,
00:21and even in the darkest of times, we can make the world a brighter place.
00:25You have to sit with your emotions, you have to sit with your feelings and not run away from them.
00:29You have to be real, and we had groups of trauma therapists come from Israel,
00:36and they've told us that the reactions that we're having are normal reactions to not normal situations,
00:42and to tell my daughter, it's okay, however you're reacting, that's normal.
00:46But at the same time, to remember, we all are here and we're saved, and we have breath in our lungs.
00:53Not all of our friends do, and some people, our friends are still in hospital,
00:58but we are here today, and we need to utilize that opportunity to make the world a better place.
