02:06We were already at a military standoff.
02:10But today the benefits of peace are reflected into the beginning of cooperation.
02:18First cargo from Azerbaijan of critical products, oil products,
02:23are being transported to Armenia and in itself it brings the prices down.
02:30So it was absolutely unimaginable, maybe two or three years before,
02:36but today it is a reality.
02:39And I think nothing can interfere into this process.
02:44What we need to do more, I think both sides,
02:48is to demonstrate the results of living in peace
02:53so that we can also witness the full support of our societies to this process.
03:02I am very optimistic because really what has been achieved
03:05is a tremendous benefit to Armenia, to Azerbaijan, to Southern Caucasus,
03:12and it sets an example of how the countries which were in very deep, hostile terms
03:20now transform into a phase of cooperation.
03:25We restored justice, international law, our sovereignty, territorial integrity,
03:30and then we achieved peace.
03:33And then we stopped.
03:35And for the leader of the country which suffered for 30 years,
03:39to stop at the right time is a very responsible and very important decision.
03:46We could have continued.
03:47I want to be very open with you and with the audience.
03:51But that would lead to endless wars.
03:54That would lead to more sufferings, more victims.
03:57Then war would never end.
03:59And someone should have stopped it.
04:01And we decided to stop it.
04:04And yes, it was a joint decision by Armenian and Azerbaijani leadership
04:10to close that chapter and to see the opportunities for peace.
04:16President Khashoggi, the same question to you, please.
04:19How do you see it?
04:20How do you look in the future now with this whole new era opening?
04:25What does the future hold for Armenia?
04:26Two years ago, one year ago, it was unbelievable that we could achieve such a situation.
04:33Whereas now, we and the Republic of Armenia is able to receive cargo from Azerbaijan
04:39via the territory of Georgia.
04:42I'm sure we'll be able one day to receive this cargo directly through our own territories.
04:49Baku, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Nakhijeran, Armenia.
04:54Directly we can have transportation, I'm sure.
04:58And we'll be able to overcome the problems that were created in the 90s.
05:01But what is very important is that we are both looking forward.
05:06If we try to look backwards, if we try to look for reasons what happened and why it happened,
05:13that will deprive us of the opportunity that we have received.
05:17The willingness and readiness from the government of Azerbaijan, Mr. Aliyev, we appreciate it.
05:24We can see it.
05:26It was today or yesterday that Mr. Aliyev mentioned that we need to learn to live in peace.
05:32I can reassure you, it's not a usual situation for us.
05:38Before signing the documents, we would wake up and try to find out what's happening on the border.
05:46Shootings, death, wounded, stress for us.
05:50Now, please be reassured, we are forgetting this.
05:55Now we are more living in time.
05:57So we need to implement projects.
06:00And we will succeed.
06:01We'll succeed because our agreements are very concrete.
06:05The principles are very concrete.
06:08We do respect each other's territorial integrity, sovereignty, and the jurisdiction.
06:14We'll be guided by those principles.
06:17We'll open borders.
06:19And I'm sure that after some years, not only at the highest political level we'll have such meetings,
06:24but also it will become business as usual when our citizens from Armenia and Azerbaijan will cross the border,
06:31will do business with each other, will make use of the benefits of each other.
06:36And therefore, as a result of this cooperation,
06:38we'll become a very conducive region as the South Caucasus for the entire world.
06:44The discussions that we are now having about connectivity between Europe and Asia,
06:50the best way to do this is South Caucasus.
06:53This process will succeed because there is an economic interest as well,
06:58not only political.
07:00Political is very important, but also economic.
07:02And this will enhance and strengthen the agreements that we have achieved on.
07:08And I do want to thank the leadership of Azerbaijan, Mr. Aliyev.
07:13I do have the right also to say thank you to our Prime Minister as well.
07:17President Vucic, I would like to ask you, how do you see the role of Serbia as somehow this important bridge
07:23for Eurasia, bridge between Europe and Asia,
07:28when it comes to redefining and defining this economic identity for the region?
07:35I believe that the role of our countries will become even...
07:42We all know that we belong to small countries, relatively small nations,
07:48speaking about size and numbers, not about our pride and dignity.
07:53But I believe that we'll have bigger importance in the future, and I'll tell you why.
08:02From Armenia, let's say 3 million, 7 million, Serbia, 10 million, Azerbaijan.
08:08We'll have to get along with each other, we'll have to cooperate, we'll have to do things together.
08:14Because in today's world, where we are facing no rules, no regulations,
08:22we are big fish, eat smaller fishes, and they're saying it, they're not even wrapping it in anything,
08:31they just do it, and they're saying, doing it bluntly,
08:35and not observing, and not in accordance with you and Trotter and you and resolutions,
08:45we'll have to take care of ourselves.
08:48And now you have two different schools.
08:50One is either to belong to those big, newly defined empires in different hemispheres,
09:01either to still protect your sovereignty and independence.
09:06And knowing Azerbaijanis people, Armenian people, and Serbian people,
09:12I know that we'll pick the option number two,
09:16which means that we'll protect our countries, our nations, our sovereignty and our independence.
09:22Wanting, of course, to cooperate with everybody,
09:24but in the end, we'll have to keep our national interests and our statecraft as well.
09:36Ebreus Demir, the President touched upon a little bit the investment side and the business side of it,
09:41and it would be great to hear, please, from your take,
09:44what's your view regarding the policies and probably the strategies needed to strengthen Eurasian's competitiveness,
09:53as well as ultimately also the integration in the global picture and the global trade?
09:58The investments can only start when there's peace and long-term stability.
10:03I mean, if there's no stability, nobody wants to invest.
10:06So hearing the leaders here, and I'm very happy to be among these very strong leaders,
10:11that the peace and prosperity are going to be long-term, it means investors can come.
10:16And I've seen the trip agreement, it's very well defined,
10:20and it's the first start of, I think, the major investments can start from that agreement.
10:28Because currently there is Cars Tip VC project already, the Baku project,
10:33and I think with the middle corridor, then we can add more to this.
10:37So what I'm saying is the infrastructure is not only the roads, it's not only the railroads,
10:44it's the digital infrastructure, it's the energy infrastructure as well.
10:48And also it brings out many more infrastructures.
10:50I mean, the dry ports, the logistical hubs, and the people.
10:54I mean, people start to come and live around it.
10:57If I may intervene regarding some good words said by Madam Özdemir,
11:02if I pronounce that well, we are speaking about peace, stability, tranquility.
11:13There has never been less peace, stability, and tranquility in the world.
11:17Last year was the worst year after the Second World War,
11:21with number of wars that were launched by different countries or within the countries.
11:27And this year is going to be worse than last year.
11:29And next year is going to be worse than this year.
11:34And everybody is speaking about peace, accusing someone else for not observing something,
11:43not paying respect to someone, but at the end everybody is taking care of its own national interests.
11:50Nobody cares about multilateralism.
11:53And this is the biggest mistake that all of us made in the past.
11:58And now, no one can correct it.
12:01There are people that might say, even in our countries, in Yerevan, Baku, Belgrade,
12:07they might say, okay, it's somewhere away from us.
12:10But there is a spillover effect.
12:13And we are all going to face the consequences.
12:15And that's why I was speaking about creating better bonds between us
12:19in order to make these shocks relatively smaller to our economies and to our politics as well.
12:27And I'm not optimistic at all the world of...
12:31We have just entered the world of volatility and uncertainty
12:35and not sure that we'll be able to overcome it in the years to come.
12:39President Chaturand, what's your take on this when it comes to this new approach?
12:43I'm one of the politicians who has always spoken about peace.
12:49In my political activities, I've always tried to be useful for peace
12:54because I understand one thing clearly.
12:57If you have neighbors, only live in peace with your neighbors, including in your daily life.
13:05There's no other way.
13:06Other way means arguing, fighting, disputes, loss of time.
13:11I am therefore optimistic that we will indeed succeed.
13:15We will indeed also have joint economic and cultural projects.
13:19We will indeed have...
13:21And we already have the precedents
13:23when the members of the civil society of our two countries meet.
13:29Business circles next will meet.
13:32In Yerevan, people can already buy Azerbaijani fuel.
13:36for their cars.
13:37Years ago, if you would speak about this, there would have been hostile reaction to this.
13:44But this is the new reality we live in.
13:46And therefore, as for the problems of the world, there is a lot of volatility in the world.
13:52After COVID, a lot of things have changed.
13:55And the political map of the world is changing a lot.
13:59And the management methods are changing a lot.
14:02And therefore, especially in this situation, the small countries face challenges.
14:09But I do not want to underestimate them.
14:14Being small may also be an advantage.
14:16It allows us to act and take decisions independently ourselves and implement them independently ourselves.
14:26You may surprise, be surprised and ask, what about the big countries?
14:31Big countries have big problems.
14:33We have our countries, our interests, our action to be taken for our interests.
14:39The global geopolitical sort of picture in the landscape looks completely different.
14:43There is not strengthening, there is rather cracking and shaking.
14:46And I would like to get that as a closing remarks for all of you speakers, please.
14:50How do you see, with this challenging and shaking and rather fragile global landscape,
14:58how do you see then the place of Eurasia in that picture, President Toulib?
15:02After peace de facto is established, we started also economic cooperation, export operations.
15:12Azerbaijan lifted all the restrictions on transportation of cargos to Armenia, from Kazakhstan, from Russia.
15:20And now we got a request from Armenian side to provide transit from Armenia to Russia.
15:28So we de facto unilaterally opened the corridors.
15:36Yes, the transportation goes through Georgia, but one day it will go through Armenia.
15:43One day Armenia will go directly through Azerbaijan.
15:47And that day is not too far away.
15:49We established a very close alliance relationship with Turkey, which is a brotherly country.
15:57And we have huge investments in Turkey.
16:01Our investments in Turkey are more than 20 billion US dollars.
16:06We are one of the biggest investors in Georgia.
16:10With a trip and connectivity project, which United States now is supervising, we will establish a new transportation corridor, stretching from Asia, across the Caspians, through Azerbaijan, Armenia, part of Azerbaijan, which is Nakhchivan, Turkey, and further down to Europe.
16:32In addition to the existing corridors through Georgia, so the more routes, the better for consumers, for suppliers, for transit countries.
16:43So we, as a country, we always concentrate on our regional agenda.
16:49And if we cannot achieve what we want in the region, we cannot have any aspirations for any kind of a global event.
16:59But today, especially after parallel tracks of Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Turkish-Armenian rapprochement, which go in parallel, and definitely will end in parallel by establishment of diplomatic relations between Turkey and Armenia, Azerbaijan and Armenia at the same time.
17:19We are changing the broad geographical area, part of Eurasia, which is very important for connectivity, for energy security, for peace, for stability.
17:32President, with your closing thoughts.
17:36A spillover effect will harm us a lot.
17:40I'll tell you why.
17:41More than Azerbaijan, of course, because we have a lot of German companies, French companies, Italian companies that are producing spare parts.
17:48If they will face bigger tariffs from the United States of America, which is the main market for those companies, it will mean that we'll have to shut down our factories, our plants in Serbia.
18:01And at the same time, there is a political issue.
18:03I see that we are coming to an end of a session.
18:06Everybody used to have its own Pandora's box.
18:09Now everybody is speaking about new Pandora's box.
18:12The real Pandora's box was open on Kosovo issue.
18:16When many countries in the world, Western world in particular, recognized and acknowledged an independence of Kosovo,
18:27saying, well, this was because of humanitarian disaster that was caused by alleged Serbian authorities action in Kosovo.
18:36And at the end, you can see the same arguments are used by all the others that are doing against the other countries.
18:42But everybody is forgetting when it started.
18:46And now why I'm afraid and why I'm saying that I'm not that optimistic is the fact that we are having more regional and local wars than ever.
18:54You have no certainty, even in the Gulf region, is it not used to be the case until the last few months.
19:06And also need to say that this divorce between the U.S. and Europe is not going to be just a temporary issue.
19:18It's going to last for quite a more time.
19:24And at the end, we'll all have to pay the price.
19:28Whether we'll be able to take care of ourselves, I hope that we'll be able to do it better than some others.
19:34But are we going to be hit?
19:36No doubt that we're going to be hit.
19:38But with the support and with the help, with the assistance of such a good friend like Armenia and Azerbaijan and hopefully Turkey as well,
19:49we'll be able to overcome all these difficulties.
19:51Thank you very much for participating.
19:53Thank you for being here.
19:54And thank you for watching this live.
19:56Thank you.
19:57Thank you.
19:58Thank you.
19:59Thank you.
20:00Thank you.
20:01Thank you.
20:02Thank you.
20:03Thank you.
20:04Thank you.
