Air Force One carrying U.S. President Donald Trump to the World Economic Forum in Davos turned around mid-flight after a minor electrical issue was detected, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said.

The presidential aircraft had departed Washington and was en route to Switzerland when the crew identified the technical problem and made the decision to return to Joint Base Andrews as a precaution. Officials stressed there was no immediate threat to the safety of the president, the crew, or the aircraft.

Trump had been scheduled to attend meetings and address global leaders at the annual Davos summit, where economic instability, global security, and geopolitical tensions are high on the agenda.

After landing safely back at Joint Base Andrews, maintenance crews began inspecting the aircraft to determine the cause of the issue. The White House said a decision on resuming the trip will be made after a full technical assessment.
