An Alice Springs jockey has become the first in the northern territory to take maternity leave. Jessie Philpot has been building momentum in the territory's racing industry with multiple successes over the past four years and after giving birth just six months ago, she's already back on track.

00:00A jockey for 15 years, Jessie Philpott takes life at a gallop.
00:07I've actually ridden a winner in every state and territory in Australia as an apprentice.
00:12I'm not sure if many people have done that.
00:15After four years of racing in the Territory, she's got a long list of wins to her name
00:21and was the first female jockey to win the Darwin Cup in 2021.
00:26Six months ago, another accomplishment, giving birth to beautiful baby Harper.
00:32I was actually the first female jockey in the NT to have a baby, so we had to work a little bit of stuff out
00:40in terms of maternity leave and things like that.
00:43The sport is demanding.
00:45You have to be fit, healthy, switched on. Weight is a big aspect of the sport.
00:54But Jessie is the determined sort, racing again only four months after giving birth.
01:00And for Jessie to make such a quick comeback after having her little one and do so well is just fantastic.
