Representatives from Marie Curie Hospice will be asked to outline the future of the facility facing closure. Last year, the twenty-six-bed inpatient unit in Woolton was closed, sparking protests.

00:00Representatives from an end-of-life charity are to be asked to set out the

00:04future of a hospice in Liverpool facing permanent closure. Fears have arisen the

00:0926-bed inpatient unit at Marie Curie Hospice in Walton may never reopen. The

00:14facility based on Speak Road has been closed since last summer. Hundreds of

00:18demonstrators made their opposition to any such closure with action taking

00:22place outside the care facility. In a letter Matthew Reid, Marie Curie chief

00:26executive said he and the wider organization recognized how the

00:30uncertainty is causing distress but said choices have to be made as to how

00:35resources are best used. Hundreds of people turned out to support the

00:38demonstration outside the threatened hospice in February. Maria Eagle, Labour

00:42MP for Liverpool Garston has met with Mr. Reid to discuss the future of the

00:46site and asked bosses to meet with all parliamentary representatives. Now as

00:51concerns continue to swirl around the provision figures from the charity and

00:54representatives from NHS England are being asked to give evidence to

00:58Liverpool Council on the future of the much-loved facility. They've been

01:02requested to address members of the city's adult health and social care

01:06committee next week. Walton Village ward councillor Malcolm Kelly made a plea to

01:11the chief executive to discuss the future of the site writing to the

01:14hospice boss councillor Kelly who was represented the ward for almost three

01:18decades said that there was a passion throughout the whole city to fight to

01:22help save the hospice. In Mr. Reid's response to councillor Kelly he said

01:25Marie Curie is totally committed to continuing investing in end-of-life care

01:30across Liverpool and we're very proud to do so as with any organization choices

01:34have to be made as to how the resource we have available is best applied to

01:38have the greatest impact across the health system in Liverpool and to do

01:42that in partnership with ICB and other providers.
