00:00And the Buffalo Bills following their loss
00:02to the Denver Broncos made the decision
00:04to move on from Sean McDermott.
00:07I don't think it was an easy decision for Buffalo,
00:10but this is a team who has done a lot of winning
00:15under Sean McDermott.
00:17But they have not been able to win big.
00:19They have not made a Super Bowl.
00:21There's actually, it's actually a historic,
00:24they have done a historic amount of winning
00:25without winning big.
00:27You do not see teams get this close
00:30without breaking through, really ever.
00:33And we know the quarterback's not gonna change
00:36because Josh Allen is on the top five quarterback
00:41to every single person.
00:43A lot of people still think the best quarterback
00:45in football, quite frankly.
00:47Were you surprised to see Buffalo
00:49move off of Sean McDermott?
00:51No.
00:51Again, we talk about window of opportunities.
00:55Yeah.
00:55This was the window to seize the moment.
00:58Without Andy Reid and without John Harbaugh
01:00in a championship type of setting,
01:03this was for Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills
01:06to basically assert themselves.
01:08He had the quarterback with the most experience
01:11from a playoff perspective,
01:12and he had a team that at the very least
01:16could outscore anybody and just get there
01:18somehow, some way.
01:19And it's unfortunate.
01:22I know Bills Mafia will say the controversial call,
01:27and I get all of that.
01:29But let's not forget, a couple of years ago,
01:33at home, the DeMar Hamlin year,
01:37they get abused by Joe Burrow.
01:40In the playoffs.
01:40Yeah, in the playoffs in your building.
01:42I mean, we don't, we, we,
01:44you can't discount that.
01:45When you look at Sean McDermott,
01:49you think, I think at least, good head coach,
01:52I don't, I don't, I don't think elite.
01:54Is, does Sean McDermott wow you to the point
01:57where I gotta have him on the sidelines?
02:01No.
02:01Is, is, is he, is, like, what, okay,
02:05he's a defensive guru.
02:06Did the defense step up?
02:07No.
02:08And I think that's ultimately what it comes down, right?
02:10Like, if you have a defensive-minded head coach
02:13who rolls, you know, who can roll sevens.
02:16D'Amico Ryans.
02:17Yeah, right?
02:18Or, you know, Mike McDonald, you know, in Seattle,
02:21whatever it might be,
02:23paired with Josh Allen,
02:24you would expect major results.
02:26And the reality is, people have mentioned it,
02:2898 and 50 during his time in Buffalo.
02:318 and 8 in the playoffs.
02:33So, you go from winning 66% of your games
02:35to 50% of your games,
02:36and, again, it is okay for the standard
02:40to be the standard.
02:42Like, just because Sean McDermott,
02:45I think, is actually likely to find a job
02:47during this head coaching cycle,
02:49despite entering it late,
02:50doesn't mean it's a mistake to move off of him.
02:53Because this is just a team, Joe,
02:56who has been far too close without breaking through.
02:59And I, I, you could probably make more excuses
03:03for Harbaugh not breaking through in Baltimore
03:05than you can in Buffalo.
03:07Right?
03:08Like, with Harbaugh, it's like,
03:09oh, Mark Andrews dropped it,
03:11or Loop missed a field goal.
03:12Like, for, for Buffalo, it's not one play,
03:15it's one game where it goes wrong.
03:17But you, it's just, there's too much there,
03:20I think, for this football team.
03:22Now, just like getting rid of Harbaugh,
03:25but maybe even more so,
03:27the risk in getting off of McDermott
03:29is they have not had the most talented defenses
03:33year in, year out.
03:34No.
03:34And you kept the general manager.
03:38And it's a decision that has kept a lot of people,
03:42I think, questioning the move to get off of McDermott.
03:46Like, people thought it needed to be a cleaning of house.
03:48Because my read on the situation
03:50is they are keeping Brandon Bean
03:53because they already know who they want to be head coach.
03:57Brady?
03:57And Joe Brady.
03:58And they will interview Brian D'Abel,
04:00and they'll see if it maybe makes more sense
04:02to go that direction,
04:03and maybe Josh will be more comfortable,
04:05and maybe D'Abel, who has been a head coach,
04:09made a playoffs,
04:10maybe they think that's better than Brady,
04:11who's never been a head coach.
04:13But I don't think they're looking for a new GM
04:16to come in and do a wide casting net.
04:20Right.
04:20Because I also don't think they want to
04:22shake the Josh Allen cage that much.
04:25No.
04:26I think they're going to give Josh something he knows
04:29while making a big change in moving off McDermott.
04:32And I don't necessarily think Brian D'Abel's
04:35a good head coach.
04:36You think it should be Brady?
04:38Yeah.
04:38You like that move?
04:38I do.
04:39I do.
04:39I would rather go with the younger guy
04:41that at least is working with Josh.
04:44And if Josh gives the okay,
04:46like, hey, I like what Joe's doing.
04:48He's putting us in a position to win.
04:51All we need now is wide receivers
04:53and guys that can burn.
04:56Then you stick with it.
04:57Look, because Brian D'Abel was there
05:01at the early point of Josh Allen's career,
05:03I'm not discounting that.
05:05But I'm also certainly not discounting
05:07the fact that Brian D'Abel was a head coach
05:10that couldn't coach his way out of a paper bag
05:13in New York from a game plan perspective.
05:15He wasn't a good head coach.
05:17He did well one year and regressed every year after that.
05:21He was the only way to go to the market.
05:26He was a good little guy.
05:26He was a good head coach.
05:27He was a good head coach.
05:28I was a good advisor.
05:29I was a good head coach.
05:30He was a good man.
05:30He would pay for it.
05:31And he if he was a good head coach,
05:31I'm not just a good head coach.
05:32That's a good head coach.
05:33He's a good head coach.
