Guatemala declares state of emergency as riot police deployed to detention center

Guatemalan riot police officers were deployed to the men’s Preventive Detention Center in Guatemala City on Sunday, as the president declared a nationwide state of emergency after authorities accused criminal gangs of killing eight police officers and holding hostages at three prisons.
