Presidential elections in Portugal could bring another victory for populists in Europe

A record number of 11 candidates are running in Sunday's presidential elections in Portugal, with a populist leader set to bring another political breakthrough to Europe's rising far-right parties.

00:00Socialist Antonio José Segura is in the lead in Portugal's presidential elections, according to exit polls.
00:10The preliminary data shows his party is due to secure 30 to 35 percent of the total votes,
00:18followed by far-right Chegas André Ventura and João Cotrim de Figueiredo of the Liberal Initiative Party,
00:25who both seem to have a chance of securing the crucial second place.
00:29Luis Marques Mendes from the governing centre-right European People's Party is expected to secure just 8 to 11 percent of total votes.
00:41Turnout is expected to be 57 and 63 percent, a new record for Portugal.
00:49If candidates do not achieve 50 percent of votes, first and second place will go to a second round on the 8th of February.
