00:00Last 24 hours, two of the big free agents off the board, Kyle Tucker, in what has to be considered a massive surprise, ends up signing a four-year deal, and he is going to the Los Angeles Dodgers to join that all-star lineup that includes Otani, Betts, Freeman, Will Smith, Teoscar Hernandez, Max Buncey.
00:19I mean, just really an incredible lineup with great pitching. I personally hate the idea of all this, but it seems like I'm one of the people on an island here. I really want things to get fixed, and I can't stand the fact that you could just spend $700 million and nobody cares.
00:38But look, the Dodgers are playing within the rules, I guess, right now, and so as long as they're playing within the rules that they currently state, then the Dodgers can just keep doing this.
00:46But I would assure you that I think that this is all coming to an end soon.
00:54Well, it's certainly going to be changed somewhat here. We'll see how that works out. Yes, there is deferred money involved in there as well, not with the amount we've seen with Otani or someone like that.
01:03But, I mean, listen, I wasn't surprised Tucker went there. The Dodgers were the third favorite to land him behind the Jays and the Mets there, so I didn't think it would happen.
01:12All right, I thought he would go to the Mets or the Jays. He did turn down more money, not on an average annual value. That was the game he was playing there.
01:19He got $240 from the Dodgers. The Jays probably offered somewhere around $400. So he'll be 29 years old tomorrow, I believe, so the 17th.
01:27So the time the contract ends is $33. Will he make $140 million from $33 on? Probably not.
01:33So, you know, Craig, in the end, he actually turned down money. He'll probably lose out on this unless he's going to get a $150 million contract when he turns $33.
01:40That being said, there are also some opt-outs here. So maybe that's the plan here. That's how he'll make up the money in a couple of years.
01:45We'll see how that works out. Or maybe he just wants to win. You know, go to the Dodgers there. You're not the main guy, right?
01:51You don't have to worry about that kind of pressure there. It's California, the nice weather. So maybe that's what he wanted to do.
01:57And let's face it, he's never going to spend it all anyway. So it is what it is here. Everyone hates the Dodgers here.
02:02I can go on a tangent here. Is it annoying? Sure. I thought the Yankees could have done this. Philadelphia could have done this.
02:07Boston, the Mets, you go on and on. Toronto. They didn't. So a lot of it's sour grades.
02:11And if we're fans of those teams, we wish our team would have done this. And we didn't.
02:16So now we're complaining about it because the Dodgers did. All right.
02:18So this just comes down to, you know, some owners want to spend money and win. Some owners want to make as much money as possible.
02:24And I think that's a problem as well here.
02:26Do I think the system needs to be changed? Sure. We'll see what happens.
02:31Yeah. I mean, George, I understand what you're saying, but you cannot compare the revenue that the Dodgers make to the bottom 10 teams in baseball.
02:37I mean, the Dodgers are making so much more money than those teams in every single way, from attendance to TV revenue to everything.
02:45I just I think it's an apples and oranges conversation. And look, I personally here's here.
02:52Look, I have a lot of opinions on this. Maybe I'll save it for the end. But again, I understand currently the Dodgers are playing within the rules.
02:58And that's all. But here's what I believe is that if there was a salary cap and a salary floor, I don't know, without a doubt, that Kyle Tucker wouldn't have signed with the Dodgers here, George.
03:12But what I do know is he would have signed the first day of free agency as opposed to three months later.
03:17And that's the first fix that baseball has to have is that I mean, he sat out there forever.
03:22And then the Dodgers just kind of came in in the end and say, if you don't like anything, take it.
03:26That's not going to happen in the salary cap era if it ends up happening.
03:29So to me, I'm just again, sorry, I am disgusted with the whole thing.
