00:00:00Oh my God! Absolutely phenomenal!
00:00:02Rooney O'Connor!
00:00:05Welcome to Match of the Dead.
00:00:30Five Premier League games on the way, and no matter what the results, it's always a super Sunday when Alan Shearer and Micah Richards are here.
00:00:54I'm not going to be that nice all night.
00:00:56We're going to begin with West Ham Liverpool, where before the game, tributes were paid to Hammers legend Billy Bonds, who's died at the age of 79.
00:01:05Bonds played 799 times for West Ham and was captain for the FA Cup wins in 1975 and 1980.
00:01:13He spent 21 years as a player at Upton Park between 1967 and 1988, and he managed the club for four years in the early 90s.
00:01:21West Ham said it was with deep sadness and the heaviest of hearts that their legendary player, coach and manager had passed away peacefully on Sunday morning.
00:01:32Everyone at Match of the Day extends their condolences to Billy's family and friends.
00:01:36And so to the London Stadium, where your commentator is Steve Wilson.
00:01:46Three changes and a change of formation to a back four for West Ham, as Mavropanos Magasa and Lucas Paqueta, who's back from suspension, replace Kilman, Igor Julio and Luis Guillem.
00:01:59Liverpool's Mohamed Salah is dropped to their bench as he was on this ground 18 months ago, when he had a row with Jurgen Klopp and then told the press, if I speak, there will be fire.
00:02:10Joe Gomez starts his first league game of the season.
00:02:12Alisson, Isak and Wirtz all return.
00:02:15It is a very sad day.
00:02:23Billy Bonds was the epitome of a club legend.
00:02:26Captain for a decade.
00:02:28A player, a manager and a man to be revered and remembered.
00:02:32Oh, whatever.
00:02:42Okay.
00:02:50Helping.
00:02:55Yeah.
00:02:56Uh huh.
00:02:56Oh, it.
00:03:00Round 2.
00:03:01Liverpool won 5-0 here last season
00:03:16Wan-Bissaka keeping it from Isak
00:03:25A swing and a miss from Juve
00:03:27Here's Florian Wetz
00:03:29And Cody Gakpo leaves it
00:03:30And Isak skies it
00:03:32Well this is an opportunity
00:03:35It was a nice little dummy by Cody Gakpo
00:03:38And Isak was nowhere near the target
00:03:40Not an easy decision to make
00:03:44Routing out big names is sometimes part of a manager's job
00:03:49And he has made that call today
00:03:51Plot by Mavra Panos
00:03:56Isak wide to Joe Gomez
00:03:59Gomez ball in Cody Gakpo might get underneath this
00:04:02Missed it
00:04:03It's a good save by Areola
00:04:05Isak denied
00:04:06Isak's Premier League goal drought for Liverpool nearly came to an end
00:04:12Areola's hands were up to Parry before the shot had even come
00:04:17Van Dijk looking for Gakpo
00:04:25Wan-Bissaka has missed it
00:04:27Florian Wetz for Liverpool
00:04:28And Areola saves
00:04:30Well in a game which has not been littered with good opportunities
00:04:35Liverpool have had the best of them
00:04:37Areola's early save from Isak and another here from Florian Wetz
00:04:42Half a block by McAllister but Paqueta comes away with it and tries something
00:04:54Quite spectacular
00:04:56Had that gone in it would have been utterly out of context with the rest of the game
00:05:02You'd be hard-pressed to say there'd been a sharp upturning quality since half-time
00:05:07Gomez plays a decent looking ball into Florian Wetz here
00:05:12Wetz plays it first time
00:05:14Very important Mavra Panos
00:05:15Gakpo and Isak arriving
00:05:17Good ball by Gomez
00:05:19Good ball by Gomez
00:05:20Good run by Wetz
00:05:21Played onside by Chodibo
00:05:23Who's grateful to Mavra Panos
00:05:26It's a Liverpool throw-in
00:05:28Joe Gomez
00:05:29Is going to take
00:05:37Florian Wetz
00:05:40Onside I think
00:05:42And even it
00:05:44Isak scores for Liverpool
00:05:46For the first time in the Premier League
00:05:48For the first time in the Premier League
00:05:53Liverpool are in front
00:05:58Mavra Panos clearing header went straight back to Gomez
00:06:01Florian Wetz
00:06:03Found the angle for the little pass into Gakpo
00:06:05Who's clearly onside
00:06:07And that's a very calm finish from Alexander Isak
00:06:10It's been such a struggle for the Swede
00:06:14That will be a huge weight off his shoulders
00:06:17West Ham nil
00:06:18Liverpool one
00:06:19Gravenberg
00:06:21Jones in a good position
00:06:25Well found by Ryan Gravenberg
00:06:26Eketike
00:06:28Jones
00:06:29Eketike
00:06:30Decent effort
00:06:33Maybe a stride wide of the left hand up right
00:06:37From the Frenchman
00:06:39From the Frenchman
00:06:46Fouled by Fulkrug on Soboslai
00:06:49And a yellow card
00:06:53For dissent
00:06:54Lucas Paquetar
00:06:56Lucas Paquetar
00:06:57Receiving that
00:06:58He's only just come back from a
00:07:00One match ban
00:07:01West Ham's number ten
00:07:03He needs to be a bit careful here
00:07:15Alisson is trying to calm down his Brazilian teammate
00:07:22Who's just been shown the yellow card
00:07:25Who's just been shown the yellow card
00:07:26For dissent
00:07:33Well
00:07:34He's just been booked
00:07:36And I'm afraid they've tried and failed to calm him down
00:07:39And Paquetar
00:07:42Gets one of the more idiotic red cards of the season
00:07:46That's crazy
00:07:47That really is crazy
00:07:56There are three minutes to go
00:07:57Todibo
00:08:00Diouf
00:08:05Luis Guillem
00:08:09Fulkrug couldn't get it through a tiny gap
00:08:11Now he might
00:08:12Fulkrug
00:08:13And Bowen
00:08:15Almost the first
00:08:17Really inviting sight of Liverpool's goal in this game
00:08:20He hit it beautifully
00:08:21It didn't quite curl enough
00:08:27Cody Gatpo
00:08:33Gatpo again
00:08:34Little deflection on this
00:08:35It might come to Soboslai
00:08:37Areola came chasing
00:08:39Joe Gomez
00:08:41And a chance for 2-0
00:08:42And that's done it
00:08:44Cody Gatpo wins the game for Liverpool
00:08:51Smartly taken by Gatpo
00:08:57And what a relief for Liverpool
00:09:01No last minute nerves now
00:09:03And now
00:09:06Joe Gomez
00:09:08Completely missed by Mavropanos
00:09:12And dispatched happily by Gatpo
00:09:15Liverpool with the win
00:09:17And their desperate run
00:09:19Is coming to an end
00:09:21West Ham 0
00:09:22Liverpool 2
00:09:25Not giving away anything to the other team as a gift
00:09:28That is something we definitely not want to do today
00:09:30Because we've done that far too many times already this season
00:09:33I saw a lot of things the same today
00:09:35I saw us creating chances which we didn't score
00:09:37The biggest difference was that we didn't concede after five minutes
00:09:40Because if you concede after five minutes you normally play much more open
00:09:44Than when it's 0-0 or you're 1-0 up
00:09:45You would expect Liverpool to be quite nervous at 1-0 given that they've not been in a good place recently
00:09:51And Lucas Paqueta, I can only describe it, gets himself sent off
00:09:56Look, I'm not going to go much further, I understand your question
00:10:00But allow me to speak with Lucas first and try to understand why
00:10:04I think even with one man less the boys give it a fight
00:10:08Let me just say the spirit, the desire was there in a day that was very sad for us as a club
00:10:15Obviously if you leave Mo Salah out of a Liverpool starting line-up it's going to be talked about
00:10:19What was your thinking there?
00:10:21We play indeed a lot of games
00:10:23In ten days we play four
00:10:25I think there's a lot of talk about Liverpool every time I leave someone out
00:10:28If it's Aleksandr Rizak or Ikitike or Florian Wiertz
00:10:32And now it's with Mo Salah
00:10:34And these players deserve this because they are so, so, so quality players
00:10:39And Mo has been so important for the club and will be very important for us as a club
00:10:44Wednesday we play again, Saturday we play again, Tuesday we play again
00:10:47So let's see what a team selection is on Wednesday
00:10:51You'd scored in the League Cup this season but it's your first Premier League goal for Liverpool
00:10:54Yeah, of course
00:10:55I've been waiting for it and chasing it and, you know, sometimes it takes longer than you expect
00:11:02But, yeah, happy to be able to score a goal and help on the way to the win today
00:11:09Well, the reaction from Aleksisak, probably similar to the reaction across Liverpool
00:11:13Which was that of relief rather than, you know, unmitigated joy in terms of getting that result
00:11:18You watched him at Newcastle at his very best
00:11:21Where is he on that journey at Liverpool?
00:11:24Well, it's about getting the very best from him, which at times he's going to need help from his teammates
00:11:31He has to do better, obviously
00:11:33We've not seen as much as we thought
00:11:35But today I think we've seen it's a very much work in progress
00:11:38Some really positive signs, but also signs where it can definitely improve
00:11:42With his teammates understand of what he needs to make his game better
00:11:46And you have to be able to do that
00:11:48I think this is a really good ball from Virts
00:11:50And I think he's certainly not up to speed to what we've seen
00:11:54Early on in the game
00:11:56You'd expect him to make that run
00:11:58And to get on the end of it
00:12:00As I said, there were some positives
00:12:02He does really well there in getting the ball out
00:12:04The ball then comes in
00:12:05And he's in the right place
00:12:06It's a decent opportunity
00:12:08But you have to say that's a good save from the goalkeeper
00:12:11This next one
00:12:13He has every right
00:12:14To moan, shout, scream
00:12:16That has to come in first time
00:12:18There's no need to take a touch there
00:12:20It's a great ball to whip in
00:12:22Alright, it doesn't come in first time
00:12:24It has to then come in a second time with the left foot
00:12:27Otherwise, you're doing the forward
00:12:29No good whatsoever
00:12:31It's a really good opportunity to get the ball in for a forward
00:12:33Who needs to be fed
00:12:35Now, O'Careley work it really well
00:12:37Again, in terms of being patient
00:12:39And again, forget taking the touch
00:12:42That passes on first time
00:12:44And then he takes the touch
00:12:45Which allows then West Ham
00:12:47That split second to get the defender into place
00:12:49And it turns out to be
00:12:51To be not a problem for West Ham in the end
00:12:54Same thing again, I think that's a good run
00:12:56And if he doesn't get it the first time
00:12:58Then he has to get it the second time
00:13:00Again, that ball has to come in
00:13:02And then the same thing again
00:13:04You can see him having a moan up and absolutely right
00:13:06And this is what happens
00:13:08This is how deadly he can be
00:13:10If you get the balls in at the right time
00:13:12At the right pace
00:13:13He works the space really well
00:13:14Doesn't do a lot to create it
00:13:16Sometimes the standing still is the best part
00:13:18But that is a fantastic finish
00:13:21That is what he is all about
00:13:23But as I said, he needs sometimes
00:13:25His teammates to help him out
00:13:27And today with that ball, yes
00:13:29But there are so many times where the ball can come in earlier for him
00:13:32And going behind
00:13:34One of the teammates who wasn't available to help him on the pitch today
00:13:36Was Mohamed Salah, who spent the game on the bench
00:13:38On a slot said it's because they've got four games in ten days
00:13:41They've got 14, 15 outfield players
00:13:44There's going to be some rotation
00:13:46That's what he has to say
00:13:48And he said there's a fuss no matter who he leaves out
00:13:50But it's Mohamed Salah
00:13:52So there's going to be more noise
00:13:54There's always going to be a big talking point with him being left out
00:13:56But in terms of form, then he can't really complain
00:13:58I think Eketike can complain in terms of being form
00:14:02And him not playing
00:14:04But when it's a big decision from the manager
00:14:06As it's always going to be with the likes of Mohamed Salah
00:14:09They have to go out and they have to perform
00:14:10And they have to win the game
00:14:11And they've done that today
00:14:13Lucas Paquitar sent off for persistently arguing with the referee
00:14:17In commentary it was called ridiculous behaviour
00:14:20Paquitar responded to this on X
00:14:23And said it's ridiculous to have your life and career effective for two years
00:14:25Without any psychological support from the Federation
00:14:29Perhaps this ridiculous behaviour
00:14:31Is just a reflection of everything I've had to endure
00:14:33And it seems to have to continue enduring
00:14:35I'm sorry if I'm not perfect
00:14:37Now this is in response to the two-year investigation
00:14:39At the end of which all charges
00:14:41He was cleared of in July of spot-fixing charges
00:14:45And he clearly feels that he's not had the support
00:14:48To help him to get over what's clearly been a very difficult situation
00:14:51But there is also, Micah, a responsibility to stay within the laws of the game
00:14:57Yeah, I mean, to be booked twice for dissent
00:15:01What you've said there, Kel, he's totally right
00:15:03And he deserves more support in his opinion
00:15:06But one thing you can't do is let your teammates down for dissent
00:15:10Because we know how good of a player he is
00:15:13We know how much we've talked him up in the past
00:15:15He can really make a difference for this team
00:15:18To get sent off for this
00:15:20Yeah, he's frustrating
00:15:21You can tell
00:15:23You know, have that over your head for so long
00:15:26And potentially could have left West Ham in that time
00:15:29You can see he's frustrated
00:15:31But when you, you know, put on the shirt
00:15:33And you're there with your teammates
00:15:35You've got to give everything
00:15:36And I think that was just a silly decision
00:15:38And he's just come back from a ban as well
00:15:39For five yellow cards, hasn't he?
00:15:41Correct, five yellows, yeah
00:15:42Madness
00:15:44Really lovely tributes to Billy Bonds
00:15:46Who had a very, very long career at West Ham
00:15:49Played right into his 40s
00:15:51In fact, he played so long that you actually played against him
00:15:54I did, I played against him way back in 1988
00:15:57Which was for his very, very last game for West Ham
00:16:00I made my debut early April
00:16:02And then played against West Ham
00:16:04And Billy back in the back end of April
00:16:07So, I mean, what a guy, what a character, what a career
00:16:10Seven hundred and ninety-nine games
00:16:13Just unbelievable
00:16:15Two FA Cup lifts in there as well
00:16:17So, it's incredible, yeah, condolences go to
00:16:19Yeah, there have been so many incredible stories told about him at West Ham today
00:16:23They do that kind of occasion so well
00:16:25To Stamford Bridge next, where Chelsea had the chance to close the gap on leaders, Arsenal
00:16:31Your commentator, Jonathan Pearce
00:16:32The first time these sides enter the weekend as the Premier League's top two since April 2015
00:16:41When a nil-nil draw ended Arsenal's title dream and Chelsea romped home
00:16:45Both have had very good weeks
00:16:47Chelsea unbeaten in six, make one change from the Champions League Super Show against Barcelona
00:16:51Charles Pedro replaces Garnaccio, who's among the subs
00:16:54As is Cole Palmer, who hasn't played since September
00:16:57And they haven't beaten Arsenal here since 2018
00:17:00The Gunners, unbeaten in 16, make three changes, two in fours from their excellent triumph over Bayern
00:17:06With Trossard injured that night and Saliba picking up a knock in training
00:17:08So here Capier gets only his second league start in a new partnership with Mosquera
00:17:14And Martinelli, a mid-week scorer from the bench, gets his third league start this season
00:17:18Caraviori swaps in for Luis Gelli
00:17:20Cabilder Jesus is back on the bench after ten months out
00:17:23And Joffreers is alongside him
00:17:29Mosquera making a run into the near post area
00:17:33It's one in the air well
00:17:34The final got up well, space here for Saka to drill a shot
00:17:40Sanchez saves with his legs
00:17:48And that's going to be a yellow card as well, I would think
00:17:51Mascara with the foul
00:17:54Too much space here for Saka from the Chelsea point of view
00:17:58They're allowed to get the shot away
00:17:59Calafiori
00:18:02Dropped his shoulder, it's a good run
00:18:04Saka, tries to hold it up against Cucurea
00:18:07Good defending, nothing wrong with the defending there
00:18:10Enzo as Chelsea now try to break forward
00:18:12And Hicapier was
00:18:14Pulled in two minds, Malagusto
00:18:16Esteval, could win a game in a blink of an eye
00:18:18Plays it off for Enzo
00:18:20Chelsea's best move of the game, straight at the keeper
00:18:24Enzo Fernandes with the shot
00:18:26Is Saka
00:18:28Is Saka
00:18:36Marino, caught by Caicedo, both came off with injury problems
00:18:42Arsenal look for Calafiori, comes back out to Martinelli
00:18:46Caicedo is in a lot of pain, a lot of pain
00:18:51I think Caicedo is late and high with the challenge
00:18:56And they're checking this for serious foul play
00:18:59Oh, that's a bad challenge
00:19:02It's mistimed, it's over the top, it's late
00:19:06And he could be in real trouble here
00:19:08Don't think it was intentional, but he's had a look at it and will explain
00:19:11And this is going to be red I think
00:19:15After review
00:19:17Chelsea 25
00:19:19Makes a challenge
00:19:21With excessive force
00:19:23And the dangers of it is deeply occured
00:19:26Therefore my final decision
00:19:28Is red card
00:19:30He's sent off
00:19:32And that could change the whole game
00:19:34And there are one or two players
00:19:35Who I think
00:19:36Have let the occasion get the better of them
00:19:39And have played with hearts
00:19:41And not minds
00:19:45Is Saka
00:19:47Runs the ball and headed away by Chalaba
00:19:49Three-kid this time to Chelsea
00:19:51And it's a yellow card this time
00:19:53Reckless use of the arm in the aerial challenge
00:20:08Ooh, that's a nasty lump
00:20:12On the cheek
00:20:14He's saying it was an elbow
00:20:16Good challenge by Rice
00:20:22Chelsea down to ten after their seventh red card of the campaign
00:20:29This is a good chance for Arsenal, Martinelli, five-stop
00:20:35It's the closest Arsenal have come
00:20:38Martinelli involved early on in the move, gets it back again
00:20:42Really splendid save because he saw it late from behind Saka
00:20:45Had to readjust, was going one way
00:20:48Regained his balance, went the other
00:20:49And that's a good piece of goalkeeping
00:20:55Off we go in the second half then
00:20:56Chelsea, of course, all in blue
00:20:58And defending the shed end away to our left-hand side
00:21:01Sal-Pedro caught as he rose in the air there with Hincapier
00:21:10Yeah, I've had a look at it
00:21:12That's a head class, I don't think anything more than that
00:21:15Sal-Pedro one of the seven Chelsea players sent off this season
00:21:20Including the manager that it's
00:21:21Here's James with the high ball
00:21:23And... good save
00:21:25Really good stop to Denyshaal-Pedro
00:21:28Good stop, it's the first corner for Chelsea
00:21:33It's the first corner for Chelsea
00:21:37In flat towards the near post, it's in!
00:21:40Chelsea light!
00:21:42To the Celeba with the glancing header
00:21:45Arsenal saw Dudley upset pieces at the other end of an undone in their own box
00:21:51Chelsea are ahead
00:21:52The ten men Chelsea lead
00:21:57Celeba got in front of the near post
00:22:01And rose higher than Reis
00:22:03And Mosquera couldn't keep it out at the far post under pressure as he was by Enzo Fernandes
00:22:13Such a young Chelsea side
00:22:15Here's Odegaard
00:22:18Saka to run Cucurea
00:22:20Stood him up
00:22:23Lovely cross in the middle
00:22:24Marino!
00:22:25It's a very good Arsenal equaliser
00:22:27It's a really good leveller
00:22:30Well he comes up with the goods, doesn't he?
00:22:33Time and time again
00:22:35Signed as a midfield player
00:22:37Pushed into centre-forward duties
00:22:39And he gets a really important goal here
00:22:42Delightful cross
00:22:44And Chelsea were left
00:22:46With just Gusteau to mark two at the far post
00:22:48Chelsea completely lost him
00:22:501-1
00:22:55Saka for Arsenal
00:22:57Just over four minutes to go
00:22:59Odegaard
00:23:01Looks for a Marino good claim by Sanchez
00:23:04And the release as well
00:23:06Now can Chelsea catch Arsenal on the counter
00:23:08Neto has Gusteau up in support
00:23:10Delap on the far side
00:23:11They've got a man over here
00:23:13Chelsea, oh, he shouldn't have done that
00:23:16And Garnaccio on the far side looks utterly flummoxed
00:23:20It's the wrong option to take
00:23:22He had players to his left-hand side
00:23:24Better position
00:23:25Look at Enzo screaming at him
00:23:27It's wasteful
00:23:29Do they push for a winner?
00:23:32Do they settle for a point?
00:23:34Mosquera
00:23:36Saka
00:23:37Odegaard
00:23:38Releases Timba
00:23:40Jokre's got a touch on it
00:23:41Marino
00:23:43Parried away
00:23:44It's Jokre's moment
00:23:46Well he had every right to go for the ball
00:23:48Sanchez is writhing
00:23:50It was loose
00:23:52He had every right to go for it
00:23:54The referee's got a card in his hand
00:23:56It'll be yellow I'm sure
00:23:58It's whether Sanchez had both hands on the ball
00:24:07Another yellow for Arsenal
00:24:09At six now
00:24:11Good save actually by Sanchez
00:24:12Because again he's had to change direction
00:24:15And then he had two hands on the ball
00:24:17So it is a yellow card offence
00:24:22They would see this as a terrific point Chelsea
00:24:24Down to ten men
00:24:26For over half the game
00:24:28After Caicedo was sent off
00:24:32Here's Piero and Incapié
00:24:35Madueke
00:24:36Luis Skelly
00:24:38Asked Mourinho to get the ball in
00:24:41Incapié
00:24:43Little chip
00:24:44Big chance
00:24:46Saka was there
00:24:47I think Timba glanced it
00:24:49Out of the way of Odegaard
00:24:51Back in comes the second ball
00:24:52Looking for Mourinho
00:24:53We know it's over
00:25:02Oh he just takes it out of the way of Jokeres who was coming in
00:25:06And probably denies Arsenal the chance of a win
00:25:091-1 at Stamford Bridge
00:25:11Cimultuous Titanic
00:25:13Bad temper
00:25:15But on is even
00:25:17Right from the beginning you could sense how much it was at stake
00:25:19Every duel, every action
00:25:22It was full gas and not much football
00:25:24Very short sequences of play
00:25:26And again with the ten men
00:25:29Obviously we expected a different game
00:25:31We planned it, we went through in the second half
00:25:33And straight away
00:25:35After the first kick they get a free kick
00:25:37From the corner and they score
00:25:39And emotionally it becomes a very tricky game to play
00:25:42The TV replays showed that the tackle was high for the red card, you agree?
00:25:46Yeah, I think it's a red card
00:25:48I think 11-11 we were in control
00:25:51We created chances and we were probably doing better than them
00:25:55Then the red card changed a little bit the dynamic of the game
00:25:58But even with that I think the way the player, you know, they dealt with that has been outstanding
00:26:04Lately I've been playing as a striker
00:26:06And I'm trying to move in the right areas so my teammates can find me
00:26:09And today they did, so I'm really happy for that
00:26:11I try to take information from every game, every action
00:26:14Even the striker that I see on the TV, so that helps me
00:26:18And you yourself seem to be getting game sharper game by game
00:26:22Yeah, I think it comes with playing consistently, you know, playing at a high level week in, week out
00:26:28You know, it's something I didn't do for, you know, a long period
00:26:32And, you know, I've got a good streak, you know, together
00:26:35And, you know, I'm happy to be on the pitch
00:26:38And you like playing in that midfield role?
00:26:40I like playing full stop
00:26:42Well, playing in that midfield role, Micah, how important was he in stopping Arsenal?
00:26:48It was sensational
00:26:50I think Maresco with a tactical plan was definitely there
00:26:54But James was just outstanding in this formation in that midfield area
00:26:59So this is him on the ball
00:27:01So what we do know is, in that midfield, Arsenal like to go man to man
00:27:05And the same for Chelsea as well
00:27:07But what James was doing, because Rice was marking him, was pulling him all the way out
00:27:13He didn't know to go to Caicedo or to James
00:27:15So now James pulled him out, and now it allows Gusto to go in midfield
00:27:21And that's what's so good about James
00:27:23Whether he's playing right back, centre mid
00:27:26He has an effect on the game, okay
00:27:28They go forward, they break the lines, and then Esteban
00:27:31He should do better here
00:27:33So firstly, we've gone with on the ball
00:27:35This is now him pressing
00:27:37So I just want to hold it here
00:27:39James and Rice, normally
00:27:41And you see Enzo and Zubamendi
00:27:42But hold it there
00:27:44But normally you would have James
00:27:46A little bit further on
00:27:48But this time, he's the furthest forward in this position
00:27:52He goes there, he goes to one, he goes to the other
00:27:55And now, he goes because he knows he's got the protection behind him
00:28:00A better pass, they're in, Arsenal get numbers back
00:28:04He was instrumental in the game, exactly what I do
00:28:08But this is my favourite one here
00:28:10Right, just hold it here
00:28:12He sees where Rice is
00:28:14He wants to press him
00:28:16And as we roll it on, slowly here now
00:28:18He's absolutely perfect midfield player
00:28:21Watch now, he stops
00:28:23He looks behind him, he knows exactly
00:28:25That he's covered behind him
00:28:27Then he decides to go to Califiori
00:28:29And get the ball because he knows he's got a chance to win it
00:28:32It's all about percentages
00:28:34When you're supposed to go, when you're supposed to drop off
00:28:37And for a right back playing in midfield
00:28:39It's just sensational to watch
00:28:41And then, down to ten men
00:28:43One and two touch, can you see a pass?
00:28:45We know he's got that
00:28:47We've been waxing lyrical about him for years
00:28:49Doing all this sort of stuff
00:28:51Absolutely perfect
00:28:53And then, yeah, he's in a position where he wants to receive the ball
00:28:55Again, Chelsea with ten men
00:28:58Causing Arsenal problems
00:29:00And then, who gets the corner for Califiori
00:29:03Goal there
00:29:05We know his delivery is so good
00:29:07And for someone to have that ability
00:29:09To go from right back to centre midfield
00:29:12But have that effect on a game
00:29:14It's just sensational
00:29:16Yeah, and not just then about stopping Arsenal
00:29:18It was about creating for Chelsea as well in that game
00:29:20And it was a hard-fought derby
00:29:21Mikel Arteta talked about it there
00:29:24Without ever really spilling over
00:29:27Apart from the Caicedo red card
00:29:29What were your thoughts on that?
00:29:31Yeah, you can't, there's no argument
00:29:33It's high and he's endangering an opponent
00:29:36And he's late
00:29:38Eventually they get to the right decision
00:29:41But it's a bad tackle
00:29:43You can see how high it is here
00:29:45There, it's, yeah
00:29:47No argument at all
00:29:48No argument at all
00:29:49Clear red card, Michael?
00:29:50Yes, I did, I didn't
00:29:52When I watched it earlier on
00:29:54In real time, I didn't think it was
00:29:55But as I watched it on
00:29:57And that angle there
00:29:58It's certainly a red card
00:30:00Yeah, even though
00:30:02Caicedo himself looks slightly startled
00:30:04To be receiving it
00:30:05But yeah, it was given as a yellow on the field
00:30:07And then overturned when he went to have a look at it
00:30:09We talked about Chelsea stopping Arsenal from open play
00:30:12They were also effective in stopping them from corners as well
00:30:15I just think they were excellent all over the field
00:30:17I mean, we know what Arsenal can do and what they try to do
00:30:20But here, you've got Enzo here
00:30:22Blocking the run
00:30:24Again, James there
00:30:26No entry
00:30:28Pedro's not even looking at the ball
00:30:30And then Cucurella
00:30:32No entry
00:30:34Goalkeeper comes and punches it clear
00:30:37How many times have we seen that before with Arsenal?
00:30:41Pedro's not looking at the ball
00:30:43He's just looking for the runner
00:30:44Goalkeeper's got a free punch again
00:30:47This is not what Arsenal normally do
00:30:49Normally they're so organised
00:30:50But this was the perfect one
00:30:52Brave, ten men
00:30:54Three up against three
00:30:55They said, no problem
00:30:56We'll leave Madweke at the edge of the box
00:30:58We'll defend what we need to defend
00:31:00And the goalkeeper catches it
00:31:02Easy
00:31:04And I mean, that was the lowest set piece
00:31:06Expected goals this season
00:31:07Because Chelsea defended so well
00:31:10But they're missing Gabriel and Saliba
00:31:13Yeah, and taking that into account
00:31:15Missing their two centre-halves
00:31:17Or their two first-choice centre-halves
00:31:19Taking into account the week that Arsenal have had
00:31:22Has it been a good week?
00:31:24Or has this kind of set them back in any way?
00:31:26Do you think dropping points at Chelsea?
00:31:27No, I think when you're up against ten men
00:31:30For that amount of time
00:31:31I guess there'd be a little bit of disappointment
00:31:33But I think when you look at the overall big picture
00:31:35The week they've had
00:31:36Beating Tottenham very impressively
00:31:38Beating Bayern very impressively
00:31:40And going there today being one-nil down
00:31:42I know they're against the ten men
00:31:43And they're missing their two main centre-halves
00:31:45Coming away with a point
00:31:46I think that's a very, very good week
00:31:48Yeah, still keep that gap at five points
00:31:49At the top of the table
00:31:51Now Crystal Palace hadn't lost at Selhurst Park
00:31:52Since February
00:31:54They've faced Manchester United
00:31:55Whose recent revival
00:31:57Suffered a slap in the face
00:31:58Against Everton on Monday
00:32:00David Moyes has never won at Old Trafford
00:32:05As the visiting manager
00:32:07It's all kicking off within the Everton players here
00:32:11And a red card has been shown
00:32:13How ludicrous is this?
00:32:15Dewsbury Hall on the half-turn
00:32:19Is away from Fernandes
00:32:20And then bends it beautifully into the top corner
00:32:24Takes his head out
00:32:28What a save!
00:32:30Everton have done it
00:32:32Manchester United's recent revival
00:32:34Ends on home soil
00:32:36Mark Scott was at Selhurst Park
00:32:38You could say Palace are punching right now
00:32:43With a win potentially sending them into the top four
00:32:46And they have won three of their last four
00:32:49Against Manchester United
00:32:51Without conceding a goal
00:32:53Having made a few changes in the conference league on Thursday
00:32:57It's back to the same Palace side that started last weekend's win at Wolves
00:33:00United are two different from Monday
00:33:03Masraoui and Dorgou go to the bench
00:33:06As Mount and Dallo come in
00:33:08Which means Ahmad moves to right wing back
00:33:13Gorgeous day at Selhurst Park
00:33:15And Palace have been looking good here as well
00:33:18Unbeaten in their last 12 home league games
00:33:20The longest unbeaten home run in the division
00:33:24Out for the first opportunity for a long throw this afternoon
00:33:30And it's going to be Diogo Dallo to hurl it in
00:33:34Dallo gets good distance on it
00:33:36Richards didn't get there
00:33:37And it's bouncing around
00:33:39And Henderson
00:33:41Just about keeps it out
00:33:43The man Palace signed from Manchester United
00:33:45Keeps his old side out here
00:33:47Just
00:33:49Good work from Dean Henderson here
00:33:51With Casemiro trying to prod home
00:33:55And having done his job well
00:33:57Celebrating with the home style end afterwards
00:34:03Here's Ismail Assar
00:34:05Plenty of white shirts around him
00:34:06And one of them gets the challenge in
00:34:08The shape of Dallo
00:34:10Fernandes back to Casemiro
00:34:12And this will be a worry for Palace
00:34:14The ankle
00:34:16Took a bit of a pounding on impact there
00:34:23Wharton swept forwards for Mateta
00:34:25Lovely pass that
00:34:27Oh Mateta's absolutely done De Ligt
00:34:30Jean-Philippe Mateta
00:34:31Scored a couple at Manchester United last season
00:34:37Has had the Eagles' first serious sight of goal
00:34:40Against them today too
00:34:42Having rolled De Ligt
00:34:44But then not got his angles right
00:34:46With the hit towards the near post
00:34:48Mateta tried to guide it onto Sarr
00:34:50Read by Luke Shaw
00:34:51Camado's touch is poor
00:34:53Mounts onto it
00:34:55Rolled out to Ahmad
00:34:59Casemiro, that's clever
00:35:01It's a free kick
00:35:03Tachi Camado who gave the ball away
00:35:05That allowed United possession in a decent area
00:35:08Tried to make amends but has taken out Casemiro
00:35:10In from Bruno Fernandes
00:35:15A queueing up and Casemiro should have scored
00:35:20Wicked delivery from Bruno Fernandes
00:35:22And it deserved better
00:35:25Happy birthday to Gary Lineker
00:35:2765 today
00:35:29And still looking as good as ever
00:35:37That's broken for Jean-Philippe Mateta
00:35:38And Mateta
00:35:41Can't take the opening
00:35:43Yet another big Palace chance that goes begging this season
00:35:48It happened time and time again
00:35:52And here's another to add to the catalogue
00:35:55From Jean-Philippe Mateta
00:35:57Sarr
00:35:59Mateta
00:36:03Mateta into De Ligt
00:36:05Gets there ahead of Ahmad
00:36:08Gey
00:36:13Warton
00:36:15Oh lovely pass
00:36:17Mateta
00:36:19Penalty
00:36:21It's a really rash challenge from Lenny Jorow
00:36:24Who doesn't even dispute the call
00:36:26He knows he clipped him
00:36:28And Palace have a spot kick
00:36:29So Mateta who's scored three of his four penalties for Palace this season
00:36:36To take this spot kick
00:36:39Mateta scores
00:36:42Very coolly done
00:36:44Laman's guessed wrong
00:36:47As it went to his right
00:36:49And Jean-Philippe Mateta gives Palace the boom that they were looking for
00:36:55Oh, hold on a second
00:36:57There's a double touch from Jean-Philippe Mateta here
00:37:00The rules were changed
00:37:04That if there's an accidental double touch
00:37:07It's a retake
00:37:11Where will he go with this one?
00:37:14Take two for Mateta
00:37:17And he scores again
00:37:19And that looked pretty clean contact to me
00:37:23He gets the chance to celebrate all over again
00:37:25Jean-Philippe Mateta
00:37:28And this time the goal is rubber stamped by those watching the replays
00:37:33It didn't phase Jean-Philippe Mateta did it?
00:37:37It's Mila Sarr who is
00:37:40Being taken off here
00:37:42And Eddie Nketiah is on for him
00:37:44And that's a blow for Palace
00:37:46Oh, and there's a slip from De Ligt
00:37:56And Nketiah is through
00:37:58Eddie Nketiah for Palace
00:38:00Took too long
00:38:02What a let-off that is for Manchester United
00:38:05Eddie Nketiah too slow to get up there
00:38:08And that allowed the chance for the challenge to come in
00:38:11From Luke Shaw
00:38:16Okay, he's passed a bit scruffy
00:38:22Foul and I think it's going to be a card as well
00:38:27Eddie Nketiah clumsy as he lunched in
00:38:36In from Fernandes, Zerxi's got the wrong side here
00:38:39Angle's tough, but he's still made it work
00:38:42Joshua Zerxi with a lethal finish to level for Manchester United
00:38:50He has done next to nothing all afternoon
00:38:55But has produced the goods here to make it one each
00:39:00Zerxi from such an acute angle
00:39:03Didn't seem to have much hope of scoring from there
00:39:07But it is a razor-sharp strike beyond Henderson and in
00:39:12Not the kind of finish you'd associate with somebody who hasn't scored in the Premier League for a year
00:39:17Nketiah dragged back, it's a Palace free kick
00:39:20Pino for Munoz
00:39:31And Gay didn't get anything on it, but it nearly went in anyway
00:39:36Nobody picking up Daniel Munoz who put it into a very handy area
00:39:39And then it was clattered by Masraoui onto Zerxi who nearly scored at the other end
00:39:50Zerxi's flick, Dallow's interested, and Boumou's in the middle
00:39:53That's a free kick, Mark Gay is absolutely stunned that he's been penalised there
00:40:01Well Gay here saying that he didn't do anything wrong
00:40:05But that's not how Rob Jones saw it
00:40:07Made off Mount to hit
00:40:09Oh, it's in!
00:40:11Manchester United have turned it around
00:40:13Mason Mount with the low drill home
00:40:16No drill home!
00:40:19His second of the season
00:40:23Dean Henderson was trying to get the wall sorted and then
00:40:26Just seemed to give up
00:40:28And then it went through the wall and then
00:40:31Two set-piece goals from Manchester United
00:40:34Have them in front
00:40:38He is absolutely raging at the way that the game has panned out
00:40:41Hughes
00:40:48Ball takes a tumble
00:40:50Palace free kick right at the end
00:40:59Devaney
00:41:01Into the wall
00:41:03And end of the game
00:41:05Manchester United
00:41:07Respond
00:41:08To that disappointment against Everton
00:41:12By ending Crystal Palace's
00:41:14Long unbeaten run here in the Premier League
00:41:18Crystal Palace 1
00:41:20Manchester United 2
00:41:23What did you do to turn that game around?
00:41:27Explained small things but I think it was clear that just the pace, the intensity of the game, we have to increase that
00:41:35I also noticed in the end of the first half and I told that to the players that they were tired and you can feel it and you will drop. If we score a goal mentally they will suffer.
00:41:49What are the things that you do to make the most of that?
00:41:52It's the runs and you can feel that Josh was not just connecting the ball, it was also making the runs. We win a second ball. They have more difficulties to recover from pressing and then they have more difficulties to recover from pressing.
00:42:05Recover for the second half for the second ball and just explain that to the players and we took advantage quite well in the second half.
00:42:15Tell me about the quality of both of those goals from Xerxes and Mount.
00:42:19Unbelievable goals obviously. I think the Josh one, I didn't even thought he could score from there. It was a hell of a strike.
00:42:25I think if you play the first time in your history European football, then you should invest and not save. I think January is too late. We have played more than 50% of our games.
00:42:38At Isma we lost him today with an injury and also he goes to AFCON. So everything we are facing now, it's not surprising. So everything was pretty clear and I always really didn't say anything.
00:42:54But today I think it's also time to speak about it. We missed the chance to play even a better season in the summer.
00:43:06Well, of course, we are going to talk about Oliver Glasner's comments, but I want to go back to what Ruben Amirim said about Manchester United.
00:43:14He said that he spotted the tiredness in Crystal Palace and told his players how to exploit that weakness.
00:43:20Just run us through, Alan, what they weren't getting right in the first half and what they needed to change in the second.
00:43:25Well, you watch what happens in the first half in terms of a lack of effort, a lack of running, a lack of commitment, a lack of closing down.
00:43:33Crystal Palace on the ball, no pressure from Manchester United.
00:43:37One through ball beats three or four Manchester United players and the tackle here is hopeless from De Ligt.
00:43:45And they're straight through simply because the application wasn't there, the intensity wasn't there, the aggression wasn't there.
00:43:53You've got far too much time on the ball, Crystal Palace.
00:43:56You give good players time and they're going to punish you and they get into some really good positions.
00:44:01Same thing again. Look at the time Wharton's got on the ball.
00:44:04Three, four, five touches before anyone even gets close to him.
00:44:08Then Kamada on the edge of the box. Look, there's no one near him.
00:44:11That should be in the back of the net. And all of a sudden, Amaran gets into his team at half time.
00:44:16What's the difference in the second half?
00:44:18I mean, that is clear. The running is clear. The closing down is clear.
00:44:23The commitment is clear that it is so much better in the second half.
00:44:28Where was this in the first half? And that's exactly what the manager's on about at the end of the game.
00:44:33That's why he was having a pop with his players at half time, because this was not happening in the first half.
00:44:39OK wants to get through, but look at them. They actually win the second ball.
00:44:43It seems they're up much more for that fight in the second half and they get the rewards.
00:44:48Look, there's no time for any Crystal Palace player to get on the ball because there's always two or three players in and around them.
00:44:55I mentioned the second ball. What's the reaction when they lose it?
00:44:58I didn't see that in the first half. Man United fans didn't see that in the first half.
00:45:03And then all of a sudden they play on the front foot. They lose the ball.
00:45:06Look at that, the difference from the forward players who were then all of a sudden chasing back.
00:45:10And absolutely because Crystal Palace played in Europe on Thursday evening.
00:45:15Man United had the full week to prepare. They didn't. They played on Monday evening.
00:45:19That should have happened from the off. They got away with it today, but you have to give him credit for the way he changed it
00:45:24and the way he got stuck into his players at half time because they were a different team in the second half.
00:45:28Yeah, as Alan said, and as Oliver Glasner alluded to as well, one of the reasons that they spotted that tiredness in Crystal Palace is because they do have this intense run of fixtures.
00:45:39And this is what they've done after European games this season, just the one win.
00:45:43And that was against Aston Villa when Villa were playing really poorly at the start of the season and struggling to get results.
00:45:50It's been it's been difficult for them to kind of to absorb those extra fixtures without, as Oliver Glasner said, really going in and investing in their squad and having lost big name players as well, Micah.
00:46:03Yeah, I mean, the summer business where Pino was was very good, but if you just look up here, they made a profit in the summer.
00:46:12And when you lose in the summer and when you lose in Eze and, you know, Ward, who was released, but in terms of a structure in the dressing room, Franca, Schlupp and Edouard, and that's all you bring in.
00:46:24I mean, as a manager, you're thinking, I've won the FA Cup. I deserve a little bit more.
00:46:32And the fans are all thinking about the same thing as well. But you have to be realistic as well.
00:46:38If you look where Palace are in the league this season, what they've done last season, who they're going to attract.
00:46:45I think that was a statement from the manager saying, give me give me what I want or I'm going to walk up at the end of the season because his contract's up.
00:46:53And you can see there 11 changes, which is the fewest of any side in the Premier League so far this season.
00:46:58Does it feel like a row that he's now having publicly?
00:47:01Yeah, well, he's come out and said that. He said himself that he'd be kept quiet for such a long time.
00:47:06And I guess he's got it in the bank because of the success they had last season.
00:47:10I think they're a very, very good team. They're a very good 11.
00:47:13But once you get through that 11 and you're going to get injuries and you're playing on Thursdays and Sundays,
00:47:17that is a big ask for those same players to keep going again and again and again.
00:47:22And clearly they can't do it.
00:47:23There was one other thing you wanted to talk about from this game, which was the appearance of an old friend.
00:47:28Some old guy made an appearance on our TV this afternoon.
00:47:32Who is that? Happy birthday to him.
00:47:33I was going to say he looks like a pensioner and I thought he actually is one.
00:47:37Got his free bus pass.
00:47:39Free bus pass there, yeah.
00:47:41To Spain.
00:47:43He's so rude.
00:47:44He's looking well though, at least.
00:47:45Happy birthday, Gary.
00:47:46Happy birthday, Gary.
00:47:47Happy birthday, guys.
00:47:48And now Wolves boss Rob Edwards made his Premier League debut as a player for Aston Villa.
00:47:56He returned to Villa Park with his team bottom of the table, nine points from safety.
00:48:00John Rohder was watching.
00:48:03Donyell Marlin replaces Ollie Watkins in the only change from last weekend's win at Leeds.
00:48:08Marlin scored twice in the Europa League victory here over Young Boys on Thursday.
00:48:12Villa have won all four of their matches following a European tie this season.
00:48:17They've won six of their last seven in the Premier League.
00:48:20Rob Edwards makes three changes for his first away match.
00:48:24Yersin Mosquera, John Arias and Jean-Richner Belgaard come into a Wolves side who have lost their last five in the Premier League.
00:48:31And they've scored only one goal away from Molyneux.
00:48:37Aston Villa who won this fixture by three goals to one last season.
00:48:42Wolves won the return by two goals to nail at Molyneux back in February.
00:48:46First corner of the match and it comes inside the opening minute.
00:48:51Luca Dean to take.
00:48:53Tielemans offering the option of a short corner.
00:48:57Didn't quite work out on that occasion for Villa. Tielemans.
00:49:01Bundled over by his opposite number, Gomes.
00:49:04Dinia to take into a crowded penalty area.
00:49:11Goalkeeper couldn't quite get there, it's off the bar.
00:49:16And then into the side netting from Pau Torres.
00:49:19Sam Johnston came for that ball.
00:49:21And that's a lucky escape for Wolves.
00:49:30Andre finds Belgaard.
00:49:32Sprint on the far side for Chatua.
00:49:34Chatua's ball back, Strand Larson!
00:49:36Wolves in front.
00:49:39But the flag has been raised on the far side for offside.
00:49:45And it may well be the position here of John Arias that is being called into question.
00:49:53This is the view that Martinez had.
00:49:58The check has been completed.
00:50:00And the goal will not stand.
00:50:03Wolves have most certainly come here and frustrated Aston Villa.
00:50:07And the Aston Villa supporters.
00:50:11Gomes.
00:50:13Arias.
00:50:14Chatua.
00:50:15Strand Larson beaten away by Martinez.
00:50:19Terrific chance for Wolves as we go into additional time at the end of the first half.
00:50:24Strand Larson just getting there ahead of Konzat.
00:50:28And Wolves get a corner.
00:50:31Andre to take.
00:50:33Headed towards goal is off the bar.
00:50:35Wow.
00:50:37Mosquera.
00:50:39Headed that one with such power.
00:50:41It flew past Martinez.
00:50:43And Aston Villa are so, so fortunate not to go behind.
00:50:47Wolves so unlucky not to be in front.
00:50:52Mosquera's header.
00:50:54It doesn't cross the goal line.
00:50:57Does Martinez get a touch on the ball as it comes towards goal?
00:51:00Yes, he does.
00:51:02Superb stop from Emi Martinez.
00:51:04Wolves haven't scored now for the equivalent of four matches in the Premier League.
00:51:08Their last goal coming just before half-time in a 3-2 defeat at home to Burnley back on the 26th of October.
00:51:18And Villa might be able to break here.
00:51:23Marlon.
00:51:26Agbadou can't make a successful challenge.
00:51:29Marlon blocked by Totti.
00:51:31And away by Muller-Wolfer.
00:51:37Towards Bellegarde.
00:51:39Jean-Rich now Bellegarde bearing down on goal.
00:51:42Strand Larsson in the middle.
00:51:44Oh, he didn't get there at all.
00:51:46Did Paul Torres get a touch there?
00:51:49Is there a touch from the defender?
00:51:54Does look like it.
00:51:56Tina Moss.
00:51:58Trying to step away there from Andre.
00:52:00Bit of space here for Luca Diña.
00:52:14Watkins.
00:52:15Watkins.
00:52:28Camera.
00:52:30Marlon.
00:52:35McGinn.
00:52:37Camera.
00:52:38Being urged to shoot.
00:52:39And he's done so.
00:52:41To dramatic effect.
00:52:45Bubakar Camera.
00:52:47Puts Aston Villa in front.
00:52:49He rarely scores for Villa.
00:52:52Only a couple of goals for them before today.
00:52:55In over a hundred appearances for the club.
00:52:57But he has made the vital breakthrough today.
00:53:01Camera just holding back here.
00:53:03And look at the space that he has on the edge of the penalty area.
00:53:09Time to control.
00:53:10Time to look.
00:53:11Time to pick his spot.
00:53:13And time to finish in emphatic style.
00:53:18Wolves most unhappy.
00:53:19They felt they should have had a free kick for the challenge there on João Gomez.
00:53:28Nicely done.
00:53:30Barclay with his first touch of the afternoon.
00:53:32Watkins.
00:53:34Gomes gets it away.
00:53:37Challenged by Camera.
00:53:38But he's been left in a heap on the floor.
00:53:41The Aston Villa goalscorer.
00:53:43Now, VAR has advised Chris Kavanagh to stop the game for a potential review for serious foul play.
00:53:52So a possible red card here for the challenge on Kamara by John Arias.
00:54:04It's the nature of the Wolves man leaving the ground.
00:54:08What's the referee's decision?
00:54:12After review.
00:54:13Wolves number 10 commits a reckless challenge only.
00:54:17Final decision is yellow card and free kick.
00:54:20And free kick.
00:54:21And it is.
00:54:23A yellow.
00:54:24Could have been much worse.
00:54:27For a Qudare.
00:54:28An obvious target in the middle.
00:54:29It's away by Dinier.
00:54:30Miss kick from McGinn.
00:54:31And Mane will let it run.
00:54:32Wolves corner.
00:54:33Andre to take.
00:54:34Aston Villa have everybody back inside their own penalty area.
00:54:36Desperate to hold on to this one goal lead.
00:54:37Gomez with another save.
00:54:38And Villa is a good one goal.
00:54:39And Hale is a good one.
00:54:40Mane with another block.
00:54:42And Martinez will give another block.
00:54:43Which means the game has a good one.
00:54:44Maire.
00:54:45And Mane will let it run.
00:54:46Wolves corner.
00:54:47And Tate to take.
00:54:48Aston Villa have everybody back inside their own penalty area.
00:54:50Desperate to hold on to this one goal lead.
00:54:53Gomez.
00:54:54Martinez with another save.
00:54:59And Villa fans can breathe again.
00:55:03Gomez finding himself in a little bit of room here.
00:55:06I think the difference between last week and this week was pretty big as it was really
00:55:13good performance but football was about winning as well and ultimately that's what's proving
00:55:21really difficult for us at the moment.
00:55:22Have Villa been working particularly on shooting from outside the penalty area because you
00:55:26seem to have got a lot of goals from outside the box.
00:55:29They are practicing and I'm telling them you must show it in official matches and they
00:55:34are doing and today the goal he scored is really fantastic and it was the consequence of how
00:55:40we were more or less dominating, getting their box, they were defending so low but we were
00:55:45being bashing, sometimes crossing, sometimes doing more passes and shooting like he did.
00:55:49When you struck it did you think that's going in?
00:55:52It's very fast so good control, I tried to shoot and after I see the ball was good so
00:56:00yeah I'm happy with the goal, I'm happy to help the team and we need to continue.
00:56:08Well Bubakar Kamara's goal settled it but no team has scored more goals from outside the
00:56:14area than Aston Villa and no team has conceded more goals from outside the area than Wolves.
00:56:20So we should have seen this one coming Micah.
00:56:22Yeah so we should have but it's not just this game today, I think Aston Villa do this really
00:56:28well, suck people in and then whoever's at the edge of the box will know exactly what they're
00:56:32going to do.
00:56:33Touch, wonderful finish from Kamara who's a bit of an unsung hero in this Aston Villa side.
00:56:39This is Cash versus Sunderland again.
00:56:42Really top finish, I think it should do a little bit better but it's outside the box.
00:56:48McGinn who I played with has always had this sort of thing but the power he gets on that
00:56:52is brilliant but they've needed these goals because Watkins has not been in the best form
00:56:58and firing.
00:56:59Here's Buendia outside on the foot and lovely and then Anana as well on the edge because what
00:57:08they do Villa they suck you back and then they know they've got the quality at the edge.
00:57:11It's as simple as that however if you look at the lowest XG in the Premier League this season
00:57:18they've actually scored 16 goals but only expected 11.9, same with Sunderland as well.
00:57:24So that means they're doing okay in terms of scoring goals but they can't rely on that.
00:57:29Is that sustainable for the whole season scoring them long ranges?
00:57:33Is it?
00:57:33Well if you keep playing that, yes.
00:57:34But I don't think, I mean he can't score worldy after worldy every week.
00:57:40And the other thing we saw today Alan was another one of those goals where a player's in an offside
00:57:45position and so the goal is disallowed for offside despite the fact that he doesn't play it.
00:57:49This is Jürgen Strand-Larsen's goal.
00:57:51What are your thoughts on this offside and just explain the thought process to the referee.
00:57:56Well I think it is the right decision because there's an argument that is two actually.
00:58:00One is in the line of sight but the one it was disallowed for was clearly impacted the ability of the keeper
00:58:05with his movement there and ducking out the ball is to get to the ball.
00:58:08So I think that was the correct decision.
00:58:10Okay.
00:58:10You've really brushed up on that, haven't you?
00:58:12Thank you my girl.
00:58:12Fantastic Alan.
00:58:14Almost like it's his job.
00:58:19Definitely better in fifth place.
00:58:20Back-to-back wins had moved Nottingham Forest out of the bottom three.
00:58:25Brighton lost 7-0 on their last visit to the city ground.
00:58:29Your commentator for this one Vicky Sparks.
00:58:32That crushing defeat here remains Brighton's worst league loss since 1958.
00:58:39They haven't lost back-to-back league games against Forest though since the early 80s.
00:58:43Morgan Gibbs-White has shaken off a back problem and starts for Forest.
00:58:47Sean Dyche makes seven changes from the Europa League win over Malmo but just one from their
00:58:52stunning victory over Liverpool. Murato replacing the injured Murillo.
00:58:56Brighton skipper Lewis Dunk is fit enough to start replacing Olivier Boscagli.
00:59:01Carlos Boliva struggling for form is benched with Maxime de Kuyper coming in.
00:59:08Before kick-off Nottingham Forest paid tribute to their former academy goalkeeper
00:59:13Josh Travis after he passed away this week at the age of 14.
00:59:43He's Diego Gomez on the lovely wall to find De Kuyper. Brighton really starting strongly here.
00:59:54And the connection can't quite be made in the centre.
00:59:59What a start it's been from Brighton.
01:00:01And Diego Gomez involved almost immediately.
01:00:06This is his 40th day in charge of Nottingham Forest.
01:00:12Sean Dyche on better than his predecessor and Costa Cogli.
01:00:19Ruta wins the corner.
01:00:22Relentless pressure at the moment from Brighton.
01:00:25Divers delivery.
01:00:32Kept alive by Diego Gomez and off the line.
01:00:36Not once but twice. Danny Welbeck to drive it.
01:00:39They just can't force a way through Brighton. What about Carioglu?
01:00:44Again Forest get bodies in the way.
01:00:49Well they are battering at the Nottingham Forest door Brighton.
01:00:52Well kept in by Diego Gomez.
01:00:56Ruta with the first and the second bite of the cherry.
01:01:07Tank's delivery is a super one.
01:01:09Nice control by Mince.
01:01:12He's got the beating of Nico Williams. Surely now for Brighton and no.
01:01:15FIFA was in there. The latest to rack up a chance for the visitors.
01:01:24Lovely play again by Mince.
01:01:27And the ricochet off FIFA from Milenkovich's block.
01:01:33Took it behind.
01:01:33Oh they'll be delighted with this start.
01:01:37Fabian Herzlop. The only thing they'll be wondering is how they haven't scored.
01:01:44Ayari.
01:01:44Ruta.
01:01:48Minter.
01:01:49Minter.
01:01:50FIFA.
01:01:51Still it won't go in for Brighton.
01:01:55You can hear the rumblings of discontent around the city ground because it is all Brighton.
01:02:00How on earth is this still goalless?
01:02:06Well he's not happy is he?
01:02:09They are being completely outplayed at the moment.
01:02:11Nottingham Forest.
01:02:16Decepted by Dominguez.
01:02:17That was a little loose and it could be costly from FIFA.
01:02:21Dominguez.
01:02:22Keeps wide.
01:02:26Oh what an effort.
01:02:30Well to say that would have been against the runner play.
01:02:35I think would have been the understatement of the season so far.
01:02:42Fabrigan almost charged down there by Ndoy.
01:02:47FIFA.
01:02:47Ruta.
01:02:49And it will roll to the Kuiper.
01:02:52And the only question is how that has taken so long.
01:03:00Brighton finally are ahead.
01:03:05Chance after chance after chance.
01:03:09And on the very stroke of half time.
01:03:13Maxime de Kuiper takes one of them quite emphatically.
01:03:18Sells finally is beaten.
01:03:23Brighton hit the front.
01:03:24It's largely been a very controlled performance from Brighton.
01:03:37Flurry of chance after chance in the first half.
01:03:39Right fashion another one here.
01:03:41Moratos there.
01:03:42Oh he's missed it.
01:03:43Brilliant save.
01:03:44Surely on the follow up.
01:03:45No.
01:03:45Saved again by Matt Sells.
01:03:50Well it's the story of the first half all over again.
01:03:53Super goalkeeping from Sells to keep the deficit at 1-0.
01:03:59Well after that 7-0 defeat here last season.
01:04:07Fabian Herzler actually burnt his pre-match game plan in front of his players.
01:04:13And they've certainly come here.
01:04:16It feels with a bit of a point to prove.
01:04:19A number of chances they've racked up in this game.
01:04:21Could have had seven themselves.
01:04:23Sells taking charge like a centre-half there.
01:04:31And it's turned into a brilliant counter-attack for Nottingham Forest.
01:04:35Hutchinson, Jesus, great stop for Bruggen.
01:04:38Well we've seen some fine goalkeeping at both ends in the last few moments.
01:04:52Looks as though that five game unbeaten run is coming to an end for Forest.
01:05:04Morato, oh, didn't quite get enough on it.
01:05:07Gruder down.
01:05:09It's in anyway.
01:05:1219-year-old Stefanos Gimas with his first Premier League goal.
01:05:19And it seals the victory for Brighton.
01:05:24And Morato with the agony of not getting enough on that header.
01:05:30Sells did all he could.
01:05:32And Morato so doubly unlucky.
01:05:37Can't get enough on the header.
01:05:39Can't get it decisively away.
01:05:42Brighton lead by two goals to nil.
01:05:43Very good win from Brighton.
01:05:48So many positives to take along with the three points from the city grounds.
01:05:54And a modicum of revenge for their humiliation here last season.
01:06:02It ends, Nottingham Forest nil.
01:06:03Brighton and Hove Albionti.
01:06:05After 20 minutes I thought we'd really start to grip the game again and get more of a tactical grip of the game.
01:06:11The performance energy came back and I thought it was quite a solid first half after their first 20 minutes.
01:06:16And then we gave away a really soft goal.
01:06:18You know, you've got to manage the game at that point.
01:06:19We don't deliver at a very simple moment.
01:06:21We just don't shift across as a unit at the back.
01:06:24And they get a runner through the middle.
01:06:25So we're disappointed with that.
01:06:26We dominated against a good opponent.
01:06:31We controlled the game.
01:06:32We created chances.
01:06:33We defended quite well.
01:06:35In the second half we suffered a little bit.
01:06:37Of course, Nottingham they tried a lot.
01:06:39They brought them some good energy quality.
01:06:42But we stick together.
01:06:43We defended the box quite well.
01:06:44And then I thought in the end it was a deserved win.
01:06:47How much did their movement in midfield cause problems for Nottingham Forest, Alan?
01:06:52Yeah, that was a big plus for Brighton.
01:06:55And has been for a while because they're clever in what they do.
01:06:58They're smart in what they do.
01:07:00I know Forest were missing Murillo, which was a big loss for them.
01:07:03But a lot of the time in Brighton's play, if you watch Danny Welbeck,
01:07:07he actually stays deep and tries to draw the centre half out as he did there.
01:07:11But what happens ahead of him is that.
01:07:13And that's what I mean about smart and clever
01:07:16and understanding how and when to run.
01:07:19I mean, and Brighton were all over Forest.
01:07:21They had nine shots in the first 20 minutes, which tells you how much they were,
01:07:25how much dominated.
01:07:25But there's Welbeck again.
01:07:27But again, look what goes on ahead of him.
01:07:31And they do it really, really well.
01:07:33And they were creating so many chances, Michael.
01:07:35Yeah, and I think you said it really well.
01:07:37It's all about the timing, isn't it?
01:07:39You know, when he comes deep, he's not coming deep just for a reason.
01:07:41He's coming deep to drag someone out.
01:07:43And then, can you find the pass wide?
01:07:46Weefer, lovely pass there from, it was dunk.
01:07:51And then inside, then you need forward runners.
01:07:54Minter has been outstanding all season.
01:07:56Unlucky on that attempt there.
01:07:58And it was just wave after wave.
01:08:00Goalkeeper getting involved.
01:08:01They're not just long balls.
01:08:04It knows exactly what it needs to do with them.
01:08:06Really long passes.
01:08:08And then the movement.
01:08:10And then the finish.
01:08:11Yeah.
01:08:11Absolutely outstanding from Brighton.
01:08:13Tough to mark when you're tying it like as well as they have done.
01:08:16Yeah, good win for Brighton.
01:08:17And there is plenty more football to come this week.
01:08:20The F.A. Cup live on the BBC.
01:08:24Sutton United, they've done it again.
01:08:27Forum would lead.
01:08:28Would you believe it?
01:08:30It's what everybody's talking about.
01:08:32The dream is still on.

01:09:01Speaking of which, here's Saturday's goals.
01:09:03And there are a lot of them.
01:09:05And it's a great one.
01:09:11Oh, it's off the frame of the goal and followed up by Adley.
01:09:19Oh, no.
01:09:21A gifted form of possession.
01:09:23Adams goes for goal.
01:09:24He's spotted Bruce off his line.
01:09:28What a sensational goal that is from the American.
01:09:31Reynaldo goes down.
01:09:35He wants a penalty.
01:09:36And the referee agrees.
01:09:39Lefe.
01:09:40No mistake.
01:09:45Traore.
01:09:46Go slow.
01:09:51Lefe is cornered.
01:09:53Robbie.
01:09:54Penalty to Brentford.
01:10:03And a glorious chance of a breakthrough.
01:10:06Eagle Jagger, who's been the heartbeat of Brentford's attack this season.
01:10:11And he puts the keeper the wrong way.
01:10:18Oh, hesitation.
01:10:19And Keone, the referee points to the spot.
01:10:21Burnley get a penalty now.
01:10:24Up against Creepy Kelleher.
01:10:25Who's got a good record from spot kicks.
01:10:27But can't do anything about that.
01:10:32Here's Keone, who gave away the penalty a moment ago.
01:10:34Henderson, that's a really good ball in.
01:10:36And Kyle Walker, he tried to clear and couldn't.
01:10:39And that man again, Igor Tiago.
01:10:46Here comes Jordan Henderson.
01:10:47This can finish it now.
01:10:48Wattara.
01:10:51It's going to be Brentford's day again.
01:10:55Early first quarter.
01:10:57Into a pack of players and in.
01:10:59Barnes couldn't find Volta Marder.
01:11:04The skewed effort from Livermanto.
01:11:06Miley.
01:11:102-0 Newcastle.
01:11:11Volta Marder for 3-0.
01:11:13Brilliantly taken.
01:11:234-0 Newcastle.
01:11:24The ball by Tarkovsky.
01:11:29Dewsbury Hall.
01:11:30Fabulous take and goal.
01:11:34Jimenez is in the middle.
01:11:35Wilson's up there too.
01:11:40Kenny Teta with a shot which takes a deflection.
01:11:43And Fulham ahead in three and a half minutes.
01:11:46And now Jimenez and Vicario fully committed.
01:11:53Has given the ball away.
01:11:54And now he's a mile out of his goal.
01:11:56As Harry Wilson makes it too.
01:11:59Oh, what an error by Vicario.
01:12:01What was he thinking?
01:12:03Here's Kudas.
01:12:04Go to goal.
01:12:06It's a thunderous finish from Mohamed Kudas.
01:12:08Nunes into the box and in behind.
01:12:13To put it across.
01:12:14For the first goal to be scored.
01:12:16Phil Foden gets it.
01:12:18City go again.
01:12:20Lucas Perry doesn't clear it.
01:12:22And it's in for two.
01:12:24Josko Gwardiol.
01:12:26Here's Tanaka.
01:12:27Through to Calvert-Lewin who tries to spin.
01:12:30And he's got the chance again.
01:12:31And he's taken it.
01:12:35Calvert-Lewin again.
01:12:36Oh, is that a risk?
01:12:38It was a risk.
01:12:39Leeds have got the penalty.
01:12:41Look at that.
01:12:42Nowhere near the ball.
01:12:45Saved by Donnarumma.
01:12:47But it is straight back to Lucas Metscher.
01:12:51Cherki.
01:12:52Foden.
01:12:54Foden's at first.
01:12:58Foden's goal.
01:13:02Well, leaders Arsenal still five points clear of Man City.
01:13:05Third place Chelsea.
01:13:06Now ahead of Villa on goal difference.
01:13:08Brighton in fifth.
01:13:09Wins for Liverpool and Manchester United.
01:13:11They're back in the top half of the table.
01:13:13Brentford in tenth.
01:13:14Like Micah.
01:13:15Wolves' 11th league defeat of the season.
01:13:17Leaves them eight points adrift at the bottom of the table.
01:13:19West Ham and Forest also both lost today.
01:13:22And they're just above the relegation zone.
01:13:24Thank you very much to Alan and to Micah for squeezing us into your busy schedule.
01:13:28We are now officially into the Christmas season.
01:13:31Liverpool have already got their present.
01:13:32Three points in Santa's Isak.
01:13:35Oh man!
01:13:37Yeah!
01:13:41Yeah!
01:13:53Yeah!
