00:00Oh, look at that!
00:02Oh, look at that!
00:04Absolutely phenomenal!
00:06Rooney up!
00:08Welcome to Match of the Dead.
00:30Hello, two games on tonight's Match of the Day.
00:52Arsenal faced Tottenham in the North London derby,
00:55followed by in-form Aston Villa's visit to Leeds.
00:58Joe Hart and Danny Murphy are revved up and ready to go.
01:02So to the Emirates, the league leaders Arsenal
01:04looking to get back to winning ways after Sunderland
01:06interrupted a run of ten victories last time out,
01:09while Spurs were desperate to keep their unbeaten away form intact.
01:14I think Tottenham Arsenal has always been an exciting game.
01:23It's a big, big game and I do like the big games, you know.
01:26It's Emmanuel Petit for Arsenal and that is a fantastic goal.
01:30Garfield!
01:32Of course, you know, we want to win that.
01:37We'll push our teams to play football and not to make war.
01:41Oh, what a try!
01:43David Bentley against his old club!
01:45And a Bayouar! And a Bayouar! What a goal!
01:49That's an incredible strike by Harry Kane!
01:53Sunderbanks in three!
01:55Tottenham running right against Arsenal!
01:59Arsenal! Trossard!
02:04Steve Wilson was at the Emirates.
02:08Sometimes in the long history of this fixture,
02:10there have been games which signified much more
02:13than just being North London's top dog
02:15and this feels like one of them.
02:17Results at Anfield and St James' have given Arsenal
02:20an extraordinary opportunity to exert a grip on the title race.
02:25An opportunity which Spurs would dearly love to deny them.
02:29No Gabriel for the Gunners in Capier deputises.
02:32He's been good, but he's not Gabriel.
02:34Calafiore is fit, Jokeres is not.
02:37Tottenham are the only side with an unbeaten away record
02:40in the Premier League.
02:41Five changes from Thomas Frank today
02:43and a change of formation.
02:45In come Danso, Udoggi, Bentancur, Odabert and Kudas.
02:53Arsenal's current 21-year wait to be champions
02:56is the longest since they won their first title in 1931.
03:00Is this their year?
03:03This is Saka for Arsenal.
03:05They're in a good position and Rice!
03:12Eze in that number 10 position
03:14delightfully into Rice and he really hit it well.
03:20Gabriel watching on
03:22and he will be for some weeks.
03:24That's not where they want him to be.
03:31And Capier caught by Kudas.
03:33Play will go on.
03:34Declan Rice to Leandro Trossard.
03:36Deep looking that from Trossard
03:38but Saka's caressed it beautifully.
03:41And Udoggi does foul him.
03:45It is a free kick to Arsenal.
03:47Michael Oliver's trying to let things go.
03:51Brilliant touch from Saka here
03:53and then Udoggi was all over him.
03:56Michael Oliver blew up in the end.
03:59Well, 20 Premier League goals scored this season.
04:01Arsenal, 10 of them from set pieces.
04:05Not counting penalty kicks.
04:06Saka with more than enough ability
04:10to put this right on the money.
04:13And it's heading towards the top corner.
04:16And ruffled the top of the net in the end.
04:21Huge week for Arsenal.
04:23Tottenham followed by Bayern Munich
04:24and then a trip to Stamford Bridge
04:27to play Chelsea
04:28who just may be their main challengers
04:30for the title.
04:31Who knows?
04:32Mourinho into Saka.
04:36Beautifully done.
04:37But he's knocked over by Bentancur
04:39and the cards coming out here.
04:42He'd nutmeged Van de Ven
04:44quite beautifully.
04:46And Rodrigo Bentancur
04:47made sure he was going no further.
04:5433 played.
04:56Saka's free kick
04:58and pushed away by Vicario.
05:03A save you would expect him to make.
05:07It's a decent save
05:08and he's probably seen it slightly late.
05:10But he'd be disappointed
05:11not to keep that out.
05:14Into the last 10 minutes
05:15of an absorbing first half.
05:19There's a little bit of room here.
05:21Michel Marino.
05:22Oh, great run by Trossard.
05:25Trossard on the turn.
05:26It's in.
05:32Arsenal breakthrough.
05:35Leandro Trossard.
05:40It's a brilliant run
05:41and he's beautifully found.
05:43And it's a pretty tidy finish too.
05:46He kept calm,
05:47kept his balance
05:49and delivers Arsenal the lead.
05:50It's a funny-looking deflection in there,
05:52having said that.
05:54Beautiful ball by Marino.
05:58As he turns and swivels here.
06:00It's come off Van de Ven
06:03into the back of the net.
06:05Well, the shot being on target,
06:06Trossard will be credited with the goal.
06:08Nicely done.
06:09Timber whipped in.
06:10Densel away.
06:11Room for Rice.
06:12Quickly moving it to Ezek.
06:13Wriggling on.
06:14Two-nil.
06:16Two inside five minutes for Arsenal.
06:18And you can't help but feel
06:21that scoring in a North London derby
06:23has been a dream for Iberi Ezek.
06:24Since he was a very young man.
06:25Now what he always wanted to be.
06:26An Arsenal hero.
06:27He scores.
06:28Against Tottenham.
06:29And the Gunners have a two-goal lead.
06:43now what he always wanted to be an Arsenal hero
06:49he scores against Tottenham
06:53and the Gunners have a two goal lead
06:56moved it so quickly into Eze Rice
07:01he showed great composure
07:05Vicario got a hand to it couldn't keep it out
07:08there is a VAR check here for a possible offside
07:14but neither were impeding the view of Vicario
07:18in the opinion of Stuart Atwell
07:20the goal stands Arsenal 2 Tottenham Oxfair 0
07:26Kevin Danso off, it shall be Simons on
07:31match 4 again for Tottenham
07:38oh look at the space, Eze has 3-0
07:43inside 40 seconds of the second half
07:50Eberici, Eze in Dreamland
07:55Arsenal 3 goals up in the North London derby
07:59they are blowing Tottenham Hotspur away here
08:03catch us if you can is the message
08:07Tottenham are in serious trouble now
08:12this is a desperate start to the second half for them
08:16but such a composed finish from Eze
08:20the gap is wide and inviting
08:23and the clip shot into the corner of Vicario's net
08:29there have only ever been three hat-tricks scored
08:32in North London derbies
08:34Eze is a goal away
08:37good challenge in Jaupalina by Mikel Marino
08:43Saka was bundled over but Arsenal have the ball
08:46have the initiative, have the advantage
08:49Rice to Trosser, Eze is in the middle
08:51and that little touch from Romero just might have denied him a hat-trick
08:55and the offside flag has gone up
09:07you've got to credit the Tottenham skipper here
09:10Arsenal look like they could score almost at will
09:15well this game has surely gone
09:17so the face
09:19not saving the game
09:21is what they're talking about
09:22great challenge Jaupalina
09:29Richarlison looking to lob David Raja
09:31and he has
09:32a piece of impudence and brilliance from Richarlison
09:37with a big thank you to Jaupalina who won it brilliantly here from Zubimendi
09:44but that's fantastic
09:45from Richarlison
09:46and that's Arsenal 3, Tottenham 1
09:49wonderfully done
09:52and Tottenham Hotspur are on the scoreboard
09:56and it's something
09:58I believe it was their first attempt of the game
10:01and as the attempt go
10:03it was a very, very good one
10:05Saka
10:10Kerlin pushed away
10:13Vicario always had its measure
10:16but he treated it with the respect it was due
10:20Vicario's forward ball
10:32commanding header by Capia
10:35here's Marino
10:36nicely around the corner
10:37Leandro Trossard
10:39and space for Iberic
10:40Eze
10:40brilliant
10:41only the fourth hat-trick ever
10:46in North London derby history
10:49and the first since Alan Sunderland
10:51in 1978
10:53greens come true
10:57for Eberici
10:59Eze
10:59what a day
11:04for Eze
11:06great composure again
11:09look how he allows that ball to just roll across Ugoge
11:14Arsenal 4
11:17Tottenham Hotspur 1
11:19it's his day
11:21it's Arsenal's day
11:23to say it's been easy would be unfair on Tottenham
11:28but it's certainly been Eze
11:30hand of end and he's lost it
11:37and it could be a fourth
11:40great save Vicario to deny Eze
11:43he shakes his head
11:48he knows
11:49too close to Vicario
11:51it really should have been his fourth
11:53that is the sound of the Emirates
12:00in ecstasy
12:01for Eberici Eze
12:03right now Arsenal
12:05have the look of champions elect
12:07they look unstoppable
12:09and Tottenham were no match for them today
12:12Eze with three
12:13Arsenal four
12:15Tottenham one
12:16it's only the fourth hat-trick ever
12:19in North London derby history
12:20I know I just heard
12:22so that tells you about the difficulty
12:23and what he's done today
12:25and to be fair he could have scored four or five
12:27you know but that's the play that we need to play to
12:30in big games
12:31it creates those magic moments
12:32those actions that
12:34that unbalance the team
12:35and I thought his all-around play today was excellent
12:38special day for me, my family
12:40and yeah happy to help the team to win today
12:42the players in the team
12:43the ability, the talent
12:45there's so much
12:46and from every angle
12:47we're threatening to score goals
12:49so yeah it's a good day today
12:51and a good performance from the team all around I think
12:53we can only apologize to the fans
12:55for not performing better
12:56I was very
12:59how can I say
13:01confident that we could be very competitive today
13:03but we weren't
13:04I take always the fundamental responsibility for performances
13:07and the biggest thing
13:08both halves
13:09no matter what
13:09it is
13:10we don't play aggressive enough
13:11we don't get close enough
13:12we don't win enough duels
13:13then it doesn't matter what system we play
13:15nobody wins a title in November
13:17clearly it's much too early
13:19but
13:19it does feel like you have an incredible momentum
13:22yes we have a really good momentum
13:24but
13:25you can see how difficult it is to game
13:27every game in the Premier League
13:28you see yesterday's results today
13:30and how teams
13:31even when they win
13:32how much they have to suffer
13:33it is a long run
13:34let's go game by game
13:35enjoy tonight
13:37then we have
13:37Bayern here
13:38and then we have Chelsea away
13:40so we have a massive week ahead
13:42yeah it's a huge week ahead
13:43but they have capitalised on others faltering this weekend
13:46and so much of the talk
13:47ahead of this North London derby
13:49was about those names who weren't there
13:51and was this going to give Spurs an opportunity
13:52well there was only one name
13:53on everyone's lips at the end of it
13:55Eberice Ezer
13:56he's a joy to watch
13:58he's a beautiful footballer
13:59but I have to say
14:00the Arsenal team performance was incredible
14:03they were better than Spurs
14:04physically
14:05technically
14:06tactically
14:07and the most worrying thing for Spurs
14:09was that
14:10Arsenal wanted it more
14:11they really did
14:12they wanted it more
14:13which is unacceptable
14:14from Spurs' point of view
14:16but getting back to Ezer
14:18I mean
14:18his best performance in an Arsenal shirt
14:21he showed all aspects of his game
14:23and his play
14:24he's got this wonderful knack
14:27of making the game look easy
14:28and finding space so effortlessly
14:30here he doesn't even see Rice till late
14:32still manages to find him
14:33with that beautiful little flick and creativity
14:35this is why they brought him in
14:37to unlock defences
14:38that sit deep
14:40and put numbers behind
14:41talking about the team performance
14:43Timber there
14:43you need runners when you've got a packed defence
14:45Timber was exceptional today
14:47but Zubamendi there
14:49who's the central defensive midfielder
14:50he's ahead of Ezer
14:51and every time someone runs past him
14:53he just drops into that little space
14:55that's vacated
14:56great feat on the edge of the box
14:58to skip through there
14:59and get a little bit of luck
15:00with the deflection
15:00but still a good finish
15:02more of the same in the second half
15:03see how he just
15:04drops into the space
15:06when Rice penetrates
15:07and when he gets the ball
15:09it doesn't matter with him
15:10right or left foot
15:10it's elegant
15:11it's composed
15:12there's one thing you have to do
15:14if you play for Arteta
15:15and that's defend
15:16they carry nobody
15:17and if you don't do it
15:19you don't play
15:20now they've got the competition
15:21for places and squad depth
15:22and look at this
15:23for a turn of pace as well
15:24I mean Koudis is no slouch
15:26and not only does he get back
15:28and help his team
15:29probably doesn't want this back
15:31from the keeper actually
15:32but when he gets it
15:33a little bit more
15:34composure around the corner
15:35and he was growing all the time
15:37the fans adore him already
15:38when he gets in this position again
15:42just patient
15:44takes his time
15:45picks his spot
15:46he's the type of player now
15:48that Arsenal can rely on
15:49he's confident
15:52he's a game changer
15:54he's a wow footballer
15:56that's what I call him
15:57I mean
15:57could have had four or five
15:58Arteta's right
15:59and that
16:00you can't
16:01whoever you support
16:02you can't help but like him
16:04and enjoy his football
16:04you'd have to have
16:05a heart of stone
16:06wouldn't you
16:07and there is stats
16:08are speaking for themselves
16:08aren't they
16:09the top English player
16:10on that list
16:11in terms of goals involvement
16:12in 2025
16:13but his story
16:15is so inspiring
16:16let go by Arsenal
16:17at 13 years old
16:18and then finding his way
16:19through Millwall
16:20QPR
16:20Crystal Palace
16:21to come back
16:22to the club
16:23that he left
16:23as a kid
16:24and do what he did
16:25in a North London derby
16:27today
16:27is just extraordinary
16:28well it is inspirational
16:30like you say
16:30resilience
16:31self-belief
16:32just complete
16:34single-mindedness
16:35and wanting to achieve
16:36his goals
16:36to play for your boyhood team
16:39and score in a game
16:40of that size
16:41is something that will
16:42live with him forever
16:43and he will not be
16:44sleeping tonight
16:45trust me
16:45I've been there
16:45it's an amazing feeling
16:47the great thing about this
16:48now for him
16:49he's got the fans on side
16:51that's done
16:51he's going to go into
16:52the next few games
16:54with no fear of anything
16:55he's going to express himself
16:56and use his skill
16:57and show the world
16:58how good he is
16:58you saw his belief
16:59in that tweet
17:00that he put out
17:00when he was 15
17:0116 years old
17:02when obviously
17:03those around him
17:04he felt were doubting him
17:05but he never doubted
17:06his innate ability
17:07it takes a lot of self-belief
17:09to go through the things
17:10that he's been through
17:10but he knows
17:12he knows what a talent he is
17:13and he knew
17:14he could feel that
17:14the whole way through football
17:15and he was just looking
17:16to find his place
17:17he certainly looks like
17:18he's found it
17:18OK
17:19on to a slightly drier
17:21kind of less glitzy
17:22part of the game today
17:23because the second goal
17:25Spurs fans would feel
17:26maybe a little bit
17:27aggrieved by
17:28it was awarded
17:29and was judged
17:30not to have contravened
17:31the interference rule
17:33now this has been applied
17:34inconsistently
17:35some might say
17:36over the last few weeks
17:37we've seen different examples
17:38of where goals
17:39have been overturned
17:40or goals have been given
17:40and yet things appear
17:42to be similar or the same
17:43should we remind ourselves
17:45of the rule
17:45and the examples
17:46that we've had lately Joe
17:47and you can tell us
17:48why you think
17:49this could be cleared up
17:50quite simply
17:51Yeah
17:51last two game weeks
17:52it's been front and centre
17:54no getting away from it
17:55we see the law there
17:57four different things
17:58that you've got to understand
17:59when you're looking
18:00at an offside
18:01especially from a goalkeeper's
18:02point of view
18:02OK
18:07so we've got the first example
18:08that we had today
18:09Abrice Eze
18:10Trossard
18:11in an offside position
18:13then we had Van Dijk
18:14two weeks ago
18:15at the Etihad
18:15Roberts in an offside position
18:17near we have Murillo
18:18and Doi
18:19at Anfield yesterday
18:20OK
18:22so first example
18:23so Trossard
18:23so this is the one
18:24that I think
18:25this is the
18:25Vicario's vision
18:26I think this
18:28is preventing an opponent
18:29from being able
18:29to play the ball
18:30by clearly obstructing
18:32the line of vision
18:32as it leaves his foot
18:33Trossard is in
18:34Vicario's line of vision
18:36offside in my opinion
18:37goal given
18:39City of Manchester
18:43different
18:43as it leaves
18:45Van Dijk's head
18:46he's not obstructing
18:47Donnarumma's view
18:49as we roll it on
18:50Andy Robertson here
18:53look he's ducking
18:54out of the way
18:54does Donnarumma know that
18:56could be trying to flick it on
18:57make an obvious action
18:58which clearly impacts
18:59the ability of an opponent
19:00to play the ball
19:01questionable
19:02of course it is
19:03there's holes in it
19:04but if you want to make a case
19:05that's offside
19:06Murillo at Anfield
19:07as it leaves his foot
19:09and as Alisson's
19:10looking at the ball
19:10is his vision impaired
19:12no it's not
19:13but if we roll it on
19:14at some moment
19:16Ndoi who's in an
19:17offside position
19:18is preventing an opponent
19:19from being able
19:19to play the ball
19:20by clearly obstructing
19:21the line of vision
19:22again goal given
19:24in my opinion
19:25you'd have an argument
19:26to rule that out
19:26so for you
19:29it would just be
19:29more consistent
19:30to say anything
19:31that anybody
19:32who's obscuring
19:33the vision of the goalkeeper
19:35in an offside position
19:36I think so
19:37I think that makes it
19:38well that's what
19:39the rules are
19:39but they've obviously
19:40not taken them
19:41because two of those goals
19:42were given
19:43so it makes it very difficult
19:44and we have these
19:45continual conversations
19:46but with VAR
19:47the ability
19:47as they've got
19:48is to slow it down
19:50and pause it
19:51like I have there
19:52and you can point out
19:53why the goal
19:53should be ruled out
19:54and a lot of Spurs fans
19:56will probably even concede
19:57that actually
19:58had the goal
19:59been ruled out
20:00they would have gone
20:001-0 down
20:01instead of 2-0 down
20:02at half time
20:03but they were totally
20:04overpowered
20:05on every area
20:05of the pitch today
20:06and would hold their hands up
20:07and say that they just
20:08didn't have the fight
20:09they were looking for
20:10in that North London derby
20:11well yeah
20:12the lack of fight
20:12but it's the lack
20:13of creativity
20:14in the last couple of games
20:15Arsenal and Chelsea
20:16at home
20:16you can see here
20:17the XG
20:18top two
20:19lowest
20:19in the last two games
20:21and obviously
20:21they won at the bottom
20:22three out of the worst
20:23eight this season
20:24yes you can hide behind
20:25Kulishevsky
20:26Madison
20:27Solanke not being there
20:28but the players
20:28they've got in that squad
20:29are struggling
20:31really struggling
20:32to be brave enough
20:33to get on the ball
20:33to make things happen
20:34you could argue
20:36only Kudos
20:36Kudos out of all
20:38their front players
20:38can hold his head up
20:40high a little bit
20:40and then say
20:41he's created stuff
20:42and had to go
20:42there's a lot of fear
20:44in that side
20:45probably too much
20:46pragmatism
20:47Thomas Frank
20:49is obviously new to it
20:50he's working out
20:51who he can trust
20:52and who he can rely on
20:53the reality is
20:54they've got to pick up soon
20:55because the level
20:56of performances
20:57the last couple of games
20:58is causing discontent
20:59amongst the fans
21:00for sure
21:01on the flip side
21:02Arsenal
21:03absolutely flying
21:04six points clear
21:05at the top of the table
21:06in a week
21:06where they have
21:07Bayern Munich
21:08in the Champions League
21:09Chelsea at the end
21:10of the week
21:10in the league
21:11of course
21:11it's a huge week
21:12could be a massively
21:13pivotal week for them
21:14yeah of course
21:15and obviously
21:15with what's going on
21:16yesterday
21:16that was incredible
21:17Liverpool losing
21:18Man City losing
21:19Arsenal getting at home
21:20to Tottenham
21:21great performance
21:21momentum's good
21:22okay
21:23thank you very much
21:24Aston Villa
21:25didn't register a victory
21:26until the end of September
21:27but since then
21:28Unai Emery's side
21:29have won
21:30eight of ten
21:31in all competitions
21:32today
21:32they travelled
21:33to Elland Road
21:34Alistair Mann
21:35was there
21:35Aston Villa's
21:38outstanding form
21:39is in marked
21:40contrast
21:41to that of Leeds
21:42whose four defeats
21:43in their last
21:44five games
21:45have seen them
21:46fall back
21:47into the bottom
21:48tree
21:48Daniel Farker
21:49says it's certainly
21:50not a time
21:51to panic though
21:51and shows the faith
21:53in his side
21:53by making just
21:55one alteration
21:56to the line-up
21:56which fell at
21:57Nottingham Forest
21:58two weeks ago
21:59Pascal Strauch
22:00is preferred
22:01to Jakar Biol
22:02scoring though
22:03has been an issue
22:04just ten registered
22:05in their eleven
22:06games so far
22:07the return of
22:09Jurid Tielemans
22:09for Andre Onana
22:11is Villa's only change
22:12and small wonder
22:13after their near
22:14perfect display
22:15in the 4-0
22:16demolition of Bournemouth
22:17last time out
22:18it's their away form
22:20which has let them down
22:21only five of their
22:22eighteen points
22:23gathered on their travels
22:25Leeds have won
22:28just one of the last
22:30eleven meetings
22:31with Aston Villa
22:32here at Allen Road
22:33and that was more
22:35than 22 years ago
22:37Aronson
22:39has he filed?
22:42yes he was
22:43Rodgers penalise
22:47free kick Leeds
22:48and they have the
22:50opportunity here
22:51to maybe
22:52nudge in front
22:53from a set piece
22:54Marstaff the orchestrator
22:56really good ball in
22:59actually
23:00gets scooped up
23:01into the air
23:02and is it over the line
23:03it is
23:04Leeds celebrate
23:08but
23:08no one's quite sure
23:11whether this goal
23:12is a goal
23:13or not
23:14well there's no doubt
23:15the ball crosses the line
23:16but is there an offside
23:18is there a foul
23:19in the end
23:20it bounces off
23:21Metz
23:21and over the line
23:22you get the impression
23:24that they're not convinced
23:25there was a foul
23:26on Martinez
23:26so
23:27I think it is the offside
23:29that might prevent it
23:30being 1-0 Leeds
23:31I think it's a goal
23:32and I think it's going to be given
23:34and in a moment
23:35there'll be a second eruption
23:36inside Allen Road
23:37and there it is
23:38so
23:40Metzger has the goal
23:41no offside
23:44no foul
23:45on the goalkeeper
23:46Leeds 1
23:47Aston Villa 0
23:48and here's proof
23:51of the offside
23:52or onside
23:53depending on
23:54when you want to view it
23:55but Kin's elbow
23:57is the guilty party
23:59scoring early goals
24:03at home
24:03is such an important
24:05aspect of
24:06any team
24:07but particularly one
24:08who have been struggling
24:10for points
24:11on their travels
24:12and
24:12they have been
24:14losing games of late
24:15Tielemans has a go
24:17and there's a claim
24:19of a handball
24:20and the referee
24:21has given a free kick
24:23it's all happening
24:25in the opening moments
24:26here
24:26Buendia
24:28very focused
24:29but
24:30Lucadina
24:31has not given this up either
24:33it is Buendia
24:36it's over the bar
24:37and
24:38yet another huge
24:40cheer
24:40around Allen Road
24:42Buendia
24:43and he was never getting that
24:45under the crossbar
24:46was he
24:46Rodgers
24:50one back
24:56Okafor emerges with it
24:58tries to take on
25:00Cash
25:01he gets back at him
25:02but concedes the corner
25:04sliding challenge
25:06I mean if Cash
25:07gets his hand
25:07on the trodner
25:08he did
25:09right at the end
25:10by Okafor
25:11well done again
25:14a menacing present
25:16Strauke's in there too
25:17Longstaff's delivery
25:20just about cleared
25:23Aronson
25:24just about saved
25:25it's a good effort
25:27from Aronson
25:29and a smart save
25:30he's had that scowl
25:35on his face
25:35for virtually the entire game
25:37Munai Omri
25:38Watkins
25:42again
25:45he's not going to get there
25:46because Rodgers does
25:48here's Kamara
25:49Watkins hits
25:51it
25:51and that is
25:53inches beyond the post
25:54I think the other supporters
25:57were in the kind of position
25:59where they thought it had gone in
26:00they hadn't
26:01so Munai Omri's
26:04dissatisfaction
26:05at half-time
26:06is apparent
26:06with a double change
26:08already
26:08on chems
26:10Ian Mattson
26:11and Daniel Marlon
26:12Lucadine
26:14and Emiliano
26:15Guendia
26:16have made way
26:17here's McGinn
26:24now Cash
26:27Marlon
26:30it's a dangerous ball
26:32and it's turned in
26:33by Rodgers
26:34and it hasn't taken
26:36Aston Villa long
26:38to redress the balance
26:39Marlon hadn't been
26:41on the field very long
26:42but he's already
26:43made a contribution
26:44and Rodgers
26:46who darted
26:47to the near post
26:48has helped it over the line
26:49and within
26:51moments of the restart
26:52Aston Villa
26:54have repaired
26:54all the damage
26:55that was caused
26:57from the first half display
26:58Marlon
27:00darting in
27:01and Rodgers
27:02flicking it
27:03beyond the goalkeeper
27:04it's only his
27:05second goal
27:06of the season
27:07Morgan Rodgers
27:08and it is a timely walk
27:10for Aston Villa
27:11he made the changes
27:14at half time
27:15and within moments
27:16of doing so
27:16his side were level
27:18and one of those
27:19substitutes
27:20Marlon involved
27:21in crafting the equaliser
27:23Longstaff intervenes
27:27here's Okafor
27:28now Metcher
27:29couldn't sort his feet
27:32out quickly enough
27:33and it breaks
27:34for McGinn
27:34Tanaka with a challenge
27:38McGinn rides it
27:39Rodgers brings it
27:41Watkins has it
27:43Watkins
27:45saved by the goalkeeper
27:46spilled by the goalkeeper
27:48and between he and Stroud
27:50they somehow get it
27:51out of harm's way
27:52there's a smile
27:54on Lucas Pérez's face
27:55but
27:56it's probably one of relief
27:58more than anything else
27:59the Villa
28:00second goal
28:01just seems to be
28:04in the air
28:04at the moment
28:05Tielemans
28:07in towards the run
28:11of Rodgers
28:12and it breaks
28:12for Barkley
28:13who's caught
28:14right on the edge
28:15of the area
28:16Stroud gets booked
28:17free kick
28:19to Aston Villa
28:19and the hush
28:22descends over
28:23Ellen Road
28:24as Aston Villa
28:26work out
28:27who the best player
28:28to dispatch
28:29this free kick
28:30might be
28:30Rodgers placed it
28:32very carefully down
28:33Sancho is
28:35making the case
28:36that he should
28:37have a crack
28:38looks as though
28:39Rodgers has won
28:40the verbal battle
28:41between those
28:42who wanted to take it
28:43pivotal moment
28:45in the game
28:46Morgan Rodgers
28:48who's already
28:49scored this afternoon
28:50does so again
28:54and Aston Villa
28:55are in front
28:56Morgan Rodgers
28:58making it look
28:58so very easy
29:00and going over
29:02to the Villa supporters
29:04at that end
29:04of the ground
29:05and he flicked it in
29:07at the near post
29:08for the equaliser
29:09he's now just
29:11guided it
29:11beautifully over the wall
29:13to make it 2-1
29:15to Aston Villa
29:16it's such an unusual
29:18way that he hits it
29:19the ball kind of
29:21holds itself
29:22in midair
29:23and planks into
29:25the corner of the net
29:26and Morgan Rodgers
29:28has single-handedly
29:31turned a losing position
29:33into a winning one
29:35here's Leeds though
29:38with James
29:39all the way through
29:40and gets it in
29:42well the Aston Villa
29:45players are all
29:46absolutely
29:47furious about that
29:50it was a strange
29:52old goal
29:52James just ran in
29:54and dabbed it
29:55beyond the goalkeeper
29:56was he onside
29:59or offside
30:00it's so tight
30:02the ball over the top
30:04James I think
30:05he's just about
30:07onside
30:07and he runs
30:09onto it
30:09and dabs it
30:11beyond Martinez
30:12and into the back
30:13of the net
30:13oh and might there
30:15be a touch
30:16off Calvert-Lewin
30:18was it a touch
30:19of the hand
30:20VAR checking
30:22oh I think
30:23it might be
30:24handball
30:25against Calvert-Lewin
30:26I don't think
30:28this is going to
30:28stand
30:29because Calvert-Lewin
30:30gets the final touch
30:32and it just strikes
30:33his left hand
30:35it will not count
30:36Sanchuk
30:42the tackle
30:43by Roden
30:44now James
30:47Pirou
30:51James
30:52fouled
30:53free kick
30:54to Leeds
30:55there's a little
30:57bit of momentum
30:59building for Leeds
31:00now
31:00trying to
31:02find an equaliser
31:04and prevent
31:05a fifth defeat
31:06in six
31:07Strouk
31:10oh and then
31:11just Martinez
31:13gets there
31:14another good delivery
31:17from Longstaff
31:18Strouk got it
31:19Martinez
31:21saved it
31:22the final score
31:23here at Ellen
31:24Road
31:24Leeds United
31:25won
31:26Aston Villa
31:272
31:27the timing
31:29of the equaliser
31:30was so crucial
31:31wasn't it
31:32yes yes
31:32it was the key
31:33to equaliser
31:34the match
31:34and then
31:34we continued
31:36and we had
31:38chances to score
31:38the second goal
31:39we did
31:39and we considered
31:41a few chances
31:42a few chances
31:43there were
31:44sometimes
31:44crossing
31:45but we defend
31:46well the box
31:47and Emiliano
31:48Martinez as well
31:49and I am so
31:50so happy for the
31:51players
31:51because the
31:52demands
31:53the standards
31:55we are trying
31:56to set higher
31:57as possible
31:58in everything
31:58they respond
32:00fantastic
32:00performance wise
32:01I was happy
32:02you can't blame
32:03the lads at all
32:03it's more like
32:04at the moment
32:04you have a period
32:05when many things
32:06are going against you
32:07and then it's more
32:08like you have to
32:08work even harder
32:09more details
32:10to gain the momentum
32:12back again
32:13that's what we're doing
32:13let's talk about
32:14that free kick
32:15there was a technique
32:16that you used there
32:17describe it if you can
32:18I call it the
32:19Emmy Buendia
32:19he did it obviously
32:21the last game
32:22before the break
32:23it's something I've
32:24been practising on
32:24probably not as hard
32:25as him
32:25maybe not as much
32:26as I should
32:26but once he was
32:28off the pitch
32:28and I looked around
32:29and there was no
32:29no one else really
32:30that practised him
32:31I thought
32:31why not
32:32I know I've got it
32:33in the locker
32:33it's just about
32:34consistency
32:34and I'm really happy
32:36that that one went in
32:36yeah it was fantastic
32:38but is it the Emmy
32:39Buendia
32:40free kick
32:40well my experience
32:41of that technique
32:42was Gareth Bale
32:43and it used to
32:44frustrate me
32:45when I was at Tottenham
32:46of why he was kicking
32:48it so softly
32:48with so much movement
32:50and I wasn't able
32:51to move
32:51because I couldn't
32:52pick up the line
32:53so when I saw that
32:55today I was so
32:56so impressed
32:56like I say
32:57that's the Emmy Buendia
32:57to Morgan Rogers
32:58but to me
32:59it was the Gareth Bale
33:00he was telling me
33:01to use
33:02almost use your ankle
33:03so hopefully
33:03later in the piece
33:04when I show you
33:05what he means by that
33:06but it's quite
33:07a confusing technique
33:08but it's such a
33:09special technique
33:09if you get it right
33:10and here we are
33:15this is versus Bournemouth
33:16this is Buendia
33:16and like
33:17I've got to clear up
33:18why this technique
33:19is leaving
33:19Premier League
33:20top goalkeepers
33:21stood there
33:22just watching the ball
33:23go in
33:24it's such
33:24it's so frustrating
33:25and I know exactly
33:26how they feel
33:27this was today
33:28this is their 20 yard
33:29free kick
33:29Buendia
33:29I've got the miles
33:30per hour up there
33:31because these boys
33:32are capable of hitting
33:3370-80 mile an hour
33:34shots
33:34and the fans on the side
33:35are probably thinking
33:36whip it goalkeeper's side
33:37whip it goalkeeper's side
33:38here
33:39first ever free kick
33:40in the Premier League
33:41by the way
33:4147 miles an hour
33:43to have the confidence
33:44and step up
33:45and do it
33:45right
33:46so what I'm going to
33:46talk you through
33:47is the technique
33:47we've known for years
33:48almost the David Beckham
33:49technique
33:50we spend standing
33:51almost 2-3 yards
33:52to the left
33:52ready to approach
33:54the ball
33:54and when you see
33:56someone with that
33:56technique approaching
33:57from 2-3 yards
33:58to the left
33:59as we see it
33:59there's only one
34:00style of free kick
34:01it's the right to left
34:02if you're a golfer
34:03the draw
34:04but what we see here
34:06with Morgan Rogers
34:08approaching it
34:08from straight
34:09that already makes it
34:10difficult for Perry
34:10as he steps up
34:12uses that technique
34:13I've talked about
34:14with Gareth Bale
34:14it almost looks like
34:15he's just hit below
34:16the ankle
34:17usually you want to be
34:18using much higher
34:19up the foot
34:19and his technique
34:20he's just looking
34:21to softly get it
34:22up and over the wall
34:23makes it very difficult
34:24and then leaves Perry
34:26stood there
34:27and I'm going to tell you
34:28why
34:28here we go
34:29this is it
34:29so 8
34:30here we are
34:308 foot 10
34:31goalkeeper
34:32the goal's 8 foot high
34:3310 inches above the bar
34:35when it goes over the wall
34:36and he has no idea
34:37of the trajectory
34:38Perry when he sees it
34:39so this is the time frame
34:40he's got to make a decision
34:41move and save it
34:42and a millisecond later
34:44it's 5 foot above the goal line
34:46unbelievable movement
34:48unbelievable dippage
34:49as you would say
34:50and as we move on
34:52to our third example
34:53which is the teller
34:54of why he's just stood there
34:55like I say
34:56Ellen Road
34:56everyone's looking
34:57and going
34:57why has he just stood there
34:59so as the ball
35:00leaves Morgan Rogers' foot
35:01it just threatens
35:02to swerve left
35:03that left to right
35:04sorry
35:05that right to left
35:05that I was talking about earlier
35:07it leaves his foot
35:08and then just dips
35:09the other way
35:10and this is the moment
35:11Perry's set for that ball
35:12to come towards him
35:13calculations in his head
35:15try and get his foot moving
35:16and in the end
35:17he's stuck in the mud
35:18can't move
35:19Morgan Rogers
35:20over to McPhee
35:21big high five
35:22and they absolutely delight
35:23because they've given him
35:24the confidence to do that
35:25they've worked on that
35:26and they believed he could
35:27there is something
35:27of the sand wedge
35:28about it isn't there
35:29in the kind of trajectory
35:30and how it comes down again
35:32do you know what
35:32I'll tell you this
35:33because I've practiced
35:34that many times
35:35it's a very difficult technique
35:36and there's not that many players
35:37who can do it
35:38I mean you need a certain
35:39type of posture
35:40with your feet
35:41a certain kind of feet
35:42because the flexibility
35:43yeah call it like 10 to 2
35:4410 past 2 if you like
35:4610 to 2 sorry
35:47rather than you know
35:49more 12 o'clock feet
35:50where you can't open
35:51to get the groins
35:52I know that sounds a bit weird
35:53but I remember
35:54it's just the 10 past 2 feet
35:55that I was
35:56in my head
35:56I tended to
35:57sorry
35:57the first time
35:59I ever was with England
36:00I was lucky enough
36:01to be called over
36:02to practice free kicks
36:03with Beckham
36:03and he
36:04he had this wonderful
36:06flexibility
36:06within his leg
36:08his feet
36:08his groins
36:09to be able to get
36:10that amazing whip
36:10which nobody else
36:12could quite copy
36:13because of his
36:14the way he sets up
36:15physiologically
36:15he was set up
36:16ready for it
36:16right let's talk about
36:17the second half of Villa
36:18we've seen this a couple of times
36:20where obviously
36:21you and I
36:21was itching to get in
36:22and make a few tweaks
36:23and a few changes
36:24because Leeds had had
36:25a really good first half
36:26Leeds were terrific first half
36:27and a lot for them
36:29to be pleased about
36:30in that respect
36:31but he brought Marlon on
36:32to play high up
36:33with Watkins
36:33instead of the first half
36:35where Rodgers played
36:35as a 10 behind Watkins
36:37Buendia was on the left
36:38so he brought Marlon on
36:39to occupy the two centre halves
36:41to stretch the game
36:42and try and get behind Leeds
36:43which they didn't manage
36:43in the first half
36:44what that also did
36:45is it left a space
36:46for Rodgers to come in
36:48when he could
36:48off the left hand side
36:49and this is how
36:50they got the first goal
36:51it's a brilliant
36:52impact substitution
36:53we know Marlon's quick
36:55we know he wants
36:55to run in behind
36:56and we know he's had
36:56a couple of good games
36:57recently
36:57probably feels a little bit
36:59disappointed he's not
37:00starting with Watkins
37:01but look
37:02both wanting to run
37:03that way
37:04Watkins was isolated
37:05in the first half
37:06on his own
37:06two centre halves
37:07against him
37:08it was more difficult
37:09and then when they get out
37:11and they beat the press
37:12look
37:12there's the pace
37:14there's the options
37:15and all of a sudden
37:16it's game on
37:17they're finding themselves
37:18getting into the Leeds
37:19final third
37:20more often
37:21this time it's Watkins
37:23with the shot
37:23it really was
37:26a clever bit of
37:27management
37:28from Emery
37:29because he needed
37:30to do something
37:30they were flat
37:31Leeds were comfortable
37:32and this is a player
37:33who wants to impress
37:34I love it when subs
37:35come on and try and
37:36impact the game
37:36he's beating people
37:37he's dynamic
37:38he's making things happen
37:39this is a great example
37:40look when you play
37:41two centre forwards
37:42they're both in between
37:43the full back
37:44and the centre half
37:44really difficult
37:46to play against
37:47and then the wide men
37:49get more space
37:50get more time
37:51to come inside
37:51and again they're
37:53unlucky with the shot
37:54and he probably
37:55deserved a goal
37:57for his efforts
37:57in the second half
37:58Marlon
37:59but he just scuffs
37:59this one
38:00but it was a
38:00really good substitution
38:02and a small tweak
38:03but a very important one
38:04I do have to say though
38:06Leeds second half
38:07even though they went
38:082-1 down
38:08they really were resilient
38:10came back into the game
38:11and were unlucky
38:12not to get something
38:13out of it
38:14the attitude on the pitch
38:15the fight that they had
38:16today would seem
38:18to see a relationship
38:20between the manager
38:20and the players
38:21certainly that looks good
38:23but in terms of the fans
38:23there was a lot of
38:24disquiet in the crowd
38:25and a fan actually
38:26managed to get himself
38:27right in front of
38:28the Leeds dugout
38:29and was protesting
38:30got taken away
38:31there were a lot of
38:32noises at the end
38:33of the game
38:33that seemed to say
38:34there may be losing
38:35a bit of faith
38:36in Daniel Farker
38:37yeah well it's
38:38it's another loss
38:38and they're on a bad run
38:40I think after their
38:40recent performances
38:41at Brighton away
38:43where they lost heavily
38:44and they lost at Burnley
38:46I think there was
38:47a lot of discontent
38:48that performance today
38:49was a good reaction
38:50even though they lost
38:51they didn't deserve
38:51to lose the game
38:52over the 90 minutes
38:53but Leeds are
38:55an expectant crowd
38:56the problem is for Leeds
38:57we talked about Tottenham earlier
38:58Leeds are struggling
38:59to score goals
39:00they've got a very
39:01tough run coming up
39:02as well haven't they
39:03lost 5-6
39:04and home is not
39:05the fortress they would
39:06have hoped it would be
39:07in the Premier League
39:07and that's what
39:08they've got to come
39:09no it's not
39:10but I've been
39:11you know I was there
39:12at the Tottenham game
39:12this year
39:13they had a really
39:14good performance
39:15they performed well
39:16they lost the game
39:16which is unfortunate
39:17of course it is
39:18but it's difficult
39:18coming into the Premier League
39:19but I saw a really
39:20good performance today
39:21they put a lot of
39:22pressure on
39:22Emi Martinez
39:23needed to be on his
39:24metal towards the
39:24end of the game
39:25that was a good
39:26Premier League performance
39:27and they were undone
39:28by a bit of brilliance
39:29but there's no doubt
39:30about it
39:31they're up against it
39:32OK

44:113-0
44:12Nottingham
44:13Forrest
44:13Ok we've got a
44:16few minutes left
44:17so I think we should
44:17talk all things
44:18Liverpool
44:18and it is not
44:20roll your eyes at
44:21me
44:21at 21st
44:2211 on a
44:23Sunday night
44:24let's have a little
44:25look at other
44:26clubs
44:26other teams
44:27who've struggled
44:28as champions
44:29the following season
44:30because it's not
44:30wholly unusual
44:32for a team to have
44:33a hard time
44:34Chelsea
44:34Chelsea
44:34after they'd won
44:35the league
44:36came back
44:36the following season
44:37and after
44:38this stage
44:3912 games
44:40only had
44:4011 points
44:41ended up
44:41finishing
44:4210th
44:42Leicester City
44:43perhaps because
44:44that was a
44:45slight aberration
44:46and an unusual
44:47thing wasn't it
44:47for Leicester to
44:48win the league
44:48you might not be
44:49as surprised
44:50with their form
44:51the following season
44:52Blackburn Rovers
44:53as well
44:54United
44:54Manchester United
44:55in 96-97
44:57only had 19 points
44:58one more than
44:59Liverpool at this
44:59stage and ended up
45:00winning the league
45:01that year
45:02Danny
45:02you've already
45:03declared that
45:03Liverpool are not
45:04going to win the
45:05league
45:05no
45:05I mean the
45:06expectation is
45:07higher because
45:07of the amount
45:08of money invested
45:08was huge
45:09even for Liverpool
45:10look Slott's
45:12going to take
45:13a lot of stick
45:14in the next week
45:15or two
45:15and he's going
45:17to be asked
45:17a lot of questions
45:18from the fan base
45:19far and wide
45:20from the media
45:21the reality is
45:23yes he is the
45:23manager and he
45:24has to take
45:24some responsibility
45:25but a lot of
45:27the players
45:27have to look
45:28in the mirror
45:29because out of
45:31last season's
45:31players I'd say
45:32only Sir Bozly
45:34Graven Birch
45:35maybe Robbo
45:35when he's come
45:36in have even
45:37got near to the
45:38levels of last
45:38season and that's
45:39not good enough
45:39and that okay
45:40there's lots of
45:41different reasons
45:42and theories but
45:43a lot of it's
45:44mentality you know
45:45because you've
45:46won summer and
45:46maybe the comfort
45:47zone a little bit
45:48because physically
45:48they're not at it
45:49and only one of
45:50the new four
45:51five signings
45:52Eketike has
45:53done well
45:55so the players
45:56have to take
45:57some responsibility
45:57now what can
45:59Slott do
46:00he's got to
46:02make some huge
46:03decisions and
46:04that means leaving
46:05some big players
46:05out because
46:06back to basics
46:07is key
46:07defending better
46:09working harder
46:10being more
46:10physical doing
46:11the hard yards
46:12it sounds very
46:13basic stuff but
46:14he's got to pick
46:15his most physical
46:15eleven who he
46:16thinks are going to
46:17defend the best for
46:18him and start
46:18getting some points
46:19on the board
46:20don't be thinking
46:21about titles
46:22Champions League
46:23FA Cups
46:24next game
46:25because the
46:27reality is
46:27if he keeps
46:28losing games
46:28he won't be
46:29in a job
46:29on the form
46:31table over the
46:32last six games
46:33Joe
46:33only Wolves
46:35are below
46:36Liverpool
46:37last night on
46:38Match of the Day
46:38Rob Green and
46:39Wayne Rooney
46:39talked about
46:40leadership
46:41they talked
46:42about getting
46:43back to basics
46:44is it
46:45and you've just
46:45alluded to the
46:46same thing there
46:47Danny
46:47is it as
46:48simple as that
46:49simple
46:50it's definitely
46:50not simple
46:51is it
46:51because if it
46:52was a team
46:52like Liverpool
46:53are more than
46:53capable of
46:54doing it
46:54Arnaz Slotz
46:55proved himself
46:55last season
46:56that he's a
46:56very clever
46:57manager
46:57he knows what
46:58he's doing
46:58just that
46:59ingredient
46:59it's just
47:00not happening
47:00it's gone
47:01from you
47:01you let slide
47:02a couple of
47:03bad results
47:03but then the
47:04other night
47:05you watched
47:05them at home
47:05to Real Madrid
47:06and they were
47:07fantastic
47:07they absolutely
47:08battered Real
47:08Madrid
47:08who've looked
47:09good this
47:09season
47:09so I agree
47:11with you
47:11Danny
47:12something's just
47:12not quite
47:13there
47:13this is a
47:14really big
47:15moment for
47:17times
47:18they'd be
47:18able to
47:18paper over
47:18through the
47:19cracks
47:19the new
47:20players
47:20would come
47:20good
47:21they're not
47:21they've got
47:22to step up
47:23and they've
47:23got to perform
47:23over the next
47:24couple of
47:24weeks
47:24the balance
47:25is wrong
47:26somewhere
47:26you know
47:27there's too
47:28many players
47:28who look
47:29off it
47:29and the ones
47:30who are on
47:30it can't
47:31compensate
47:31for the
47:32ones who
47:32aren't
47:32so he's
47:33got to
47:34find an
47:35XI
47:35that is
47:36prepared to
47:36just be
47:38more stable
47:39be more
47:40compact
47:40if it means
47:41putting more
47:41defensive players
47:42in upsetting
47:43a few egos
47:43you've got to
47:44do it
47:45PSV at home
47:46in the
47:46Champions League
47:47and West Ham
47:48away the next
47:48two matches
47:49every game
47:50at the moment
47:51looks tough
47:52doesn't it
47:52for them
47:53yeah of course
47:53I think they
47:54would have
47:54backed themselves
47:55at Forrest
47:55at home
47:56the position
47:56they've been
47:57this season
47:57to win easily
47:58and they've
47:58not
47:58they've struggled
47:59so massive
48:00games in the
48:00season for them
48:01okay let's have
48:02a quick look
48:02shall we
48:03at the Premier
48:03League table
48:04and Arsenal
48:04stretch their
48:05lead to six
48:05points which
48:06is their biggest
48:07at this stage
48:08of a Premier
48:08League season
48:09Aston Villa's
48:09win sends
48:10them fourth
48:10with Tottenham
48:11now ninth
48:12Leeds miss
48:13the chance
48:13to climb out
48:13of the
48:14relegation zone
48:14while Wolves
48:15are cast
48:15adrift at
48:16the bottom
48:16next seven
48:17sides are
48:17separated by
48:18just five
48:19points
48:19thank you so
