The Friday Qualifying session for Round 4 of the 2003 F1 season at Imola.
Transcript
00:00Hello and welcome to live coverage of the 2003 Formula 1 season on Speed Channel.
00:20This is provisional qualifying for the fourth round of the 2003 season, the San Marino Grand Prix.
00:25I'm David Holtz and joining me today is our technical analyst Steve Matchett.
00:29And Steve, first man out, Kimi Räikkönen currently leading the World Championship.
00:33Yes, he is. He's had a pretty stellar start to the season, it has to be said, and so have McLaren.
00:39And, of course, you'll notice that they're still using last year's car.
00:42The new car, the MP418, still on hold, although we were expected to see that car within the month, probably for the Spanish Grand Prix.
00:51But what they are not using is last year's Michelin.
00:53The Michelin this year seemed to really come to life after winter's testing.
00:57There's no doubt about it, Michelin looking very strong on all their cars this year.
01:00David Coulthard, who will be next out, as he is second in the World Championship.
01:05Looking at the monitors there.
01:06Now, the running today causes World Championship order, and then the running tomorrow will be the reverse order of today's fasted times.
01:17Yeah, it is a little bit unusual, the procedure for Friday, really.
01:22And it all depends on how the weather plays out tomorrow, David, because, I mean, if it rains halfway through the session,
01:26the times that these guys are setting now will really work against them.
01:29And in spite of that beautiful blue sky we just saw there, the forecast for tomorrow is rain, and rain for Sunday.
01:38We've had a lot of rain so far this season, haven't we?
01:41And the situation regarding wet tyres has not changed.
01:44The FIA president, Max Mosley, has said there will be no change of the regulations as far as wet tyres are concerned.
01:49And it is entirely up to the teams to decide what specification of wet weather tyre to produce.
01:54Well, whatever he says, it's still a very poor rule, as Kimi Räikkönen sets off on his first hot time lap of the weekend.
02:03Now, don't forget, Kimi Räikkönen did not win the Brazilian Grand Prix two weeks ago.
02:08The timekeepers decided they had got it wrong, and he was relegated to second.
02:12Yeah, and this is an unusual decision, really.
02:15I fail to understand this, for each car is fitted with an electronics transponder box,
02:20which is connected up to the Tag Heuer timing system.
02:22It's all computer controlled, there are electronic links between the car and the track,
02:26and the split millisecond that the car crosses the start-finish line,
02:29those times are recorded on the computer screen.
02:31How it happens...
02:32They get it wrong in the form.
02:34They get it wrong, sort of opens up a whole can of worms.
02:37Well, how is it possible to get it wrong?
02:39But anyway, the result has been overturned.
02:42Jordan had evidence to suggest that Giancarlo Fisichella had started that next lap, lap 56,
02:47and so the race result was changed.
02:49Kimi Räikkönen there using those kerbs big time at the Variante Alta,
02:53which apparently is the way to get around here very quickly.
02:55You've got to use all the kerb like that at the Rivazza.
02:58This one is a very important corner, double apex left-hander,
03:01and it launches onto this pretty long straight back towards the final corners.
03:06So temporarily on the pole there, the 1.22.1.
03:19Here's David Coulthard, who's just about to start his run.
03:22This is him this morning, at this moment,
03:24down at the chicane right before the start-finish timing strip.
03:28And then later on, he's off the road at the top there on the Variante Alta,
03:34cutting the clover there.
03:36Yeah, well, I guess if you've got to do it, David,
03:38it's sometime during the weekend, it's the free practice sessions
03:40when you want that to happen.
03:41Absolutely.
03:42The guys are obviously trying to set the car up
03:44to get the maximum performance of the mechanical grip.
03:48Again, this circuit is all about getting the car to handle the kerbs.
03:51You need, as you said at the top of the show, David,
03:53to get the car to run over those kerbs big time here.
03:56Well, the only way to do that is soften up the suspension.
03:59You soften it up too much, of course,
04:00and that compromises your straight-line speed,
04:02and down the straights, you start to get the car pitching
04:04as the front dips under braking and picks up
04:08and squats down at the back under acceleration.
04:10So it's a difficult compromise for the mechanical engineers
04:13to come up with this setup.
04:14A lot of aerodynamics on this, on the car as well here.
04:20More aerodynamics, more downforce on the cars here
04:22than any other of the races so far this season.
04:25And big compromise again between the aerodynamics,
04:29the will, the wish not to have big brake ducts on these cars here
04:33because of the compromise of the airflow over the front wing,
04:35and you'll notice that McLaren use a lot of brake ducts.
04:39We'll just lay out and listen to the car and come back on that.
04:44That is Aquaminerale that he just went through there.
04:55David Coulthard, of course, a winner here in 99.
04:58He was fifth this morning in the pre-qualifying run-up this morning.
05:04It was actually fourth, I think, fourth quickest this morning.
05:09Did I say fourth or fifth?
05:10He said fifth, but I think it was fourth out of this morning.
05:18991 miles an hour.
05:24Now, power on.
05:25Next up, of course, will be Fernando Alonso.
05:42So another little replay of how the McLaren is handling these curves.
05:46As you see, they take big chunks out of the curves here.
05:48To finish that thought on, if they're going to show us those every guy,
05:52it's going to be a good time for you to analyse the suspension on these cars, Steve.
05:56Yeah, they do take an awful battery.
05:58And my slight concern is here, really,
06:00in light of Ralph Fuhrman's unusual suspension failure
06:03at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
06:05Now, I haven't really come to the bottom of what the cause of that was.
06:09As we're on board now with Renault.
06:11As you watch the car get onto the track and build up to time,
06:14because they take such a pan in the car
06:16as they come over these curbs,
06:18how well the carbon suspension is going to cope
06:20with these loads going over here.
06:22The acceleration on the dampers is quite remarkable.
06:25It's something like 300 millimeters a second of suspension travel
06:28on the damper shafts they see as they slam over those curbs.
06:30And that obviously puts massive loads through the suspension.
06:33That's twice, really, double the suspension travel
06:36and double the speed you'd get to see, really, on a circuit,
06:40any other part of the track here, for example.
06:42So they really are subjected to great suspension loads.
06:45Just running over the curb on the way up to the Piratello.
06:50Over the top of the hill there.
06:52Fast left-hander here, which tips downhill.
06:55Very fast run down to Aquaminerale there.
06:58They've actually straightened this out a bit now
06:59and turned into a double apex right-hander.
07:02Launched itself up the hill.
07:03You notice how narrow this track is, David.
07:05This is one of the old classic European tracks.
07:07Alonso not looking too bad on the podium the last two races.
07:13Mind you, he wasn't actually on the podium in Brazil
07:15because he was actually on a stretcher,
07:17but he was classified third after that massive crash.
07:22And again, if you just look on the left-hand side part,
07:24just in front of the left rear wheel,
07:25just as we saw with Räikkönen's car last week in the Grand Prix,
07:29you'll see a little bit of tape flicking and shining in the sun,
07:32which is that helicopter tape that's put onto the bodywork
07:34to seal the thing down.
07:36And you get a little bit of oil or something else underneath there.
07:39Actually too much bodywork polish,
07:41and it'll start to lift that helicopter tape off the car.
07:44That's what you're seeing flashing on the left-hand side of the Renault.
07:47Giancarlo Fischer-Keller.
07:48This is him early this morning getting the cup back from Kimi Räikkönen
07:52after that snafu with the scoring two weeks ago in Brazil.
07:56So Kimi Räikkönen gives Giancarlo Fischer-Keller the cup.
08:00Great joy for Fischer-Keller,
08:01especially here in front of an Italian home crowd,
08:03and of course a very happy moment for Eddie Jordan there,
08:06who are desperately looking for sponsorship,
08:08and obviously a win is a good way to start finding some.
08:10Yeah, that won't do him any harm at all.
08:12You could tell from Giancarlo Fischer-Keller's body language
08:14on the podium last race how keen he was
08:17to really elbow Räikkönen out of the way
08:19to take that top step and stand there.
08:22A disappointing way for him to take that first win,
08:24and I think I've never known that to happen before, David,
08:27that they've had a ceremony like this at the following race
08:30to change the order and change the cups over,
08:33so that's a little bit of F1 history right there,
08:35as far as I'm aware.
08:36Well, I'm sure the FIA felt morally bound to do something about it
08:39because it was obviously their mistake in the first place,
08:42which had never happened.
08:42But anyway, great moment for Fischer-Keller.
08:45His first win, 110 Grand Prix,
08:47and look at that.
08:48Very, very close.
08:49It's just 7,000ths of a second slower on that first sector.
08:53Fischer-Keller went pretty well this morning.
08:55He was the top Bridgestone runner, in fact.
09:05He wasn't the top Bridgestone runner this morning.
09:07He was 11th this morning,
09:07but he had a pretty good run going at one stage,
09:09so how's he doing on his second sector?
09:13Wow.
09:13Up on the good side.
09:16So Fischer-Keller.
09:17I'm not actually using up all that much road either.
09:20Car sliding around a little bit there.
09:22You notice a shot earlier on
09:23of how much these carbon brakes are glowing front and rear.
09:26Oh, that could cost him a bit of time going wide on the...
09:29Because this is a very important corner, this.
09:31So he's got to get a really good exit off there.
09:37Hopefully it didn't cost him too much time.
09:40Boy, wouldn't he like to be unsold here.
09:42Now.
09:44Oh, third.
09:46Look at that.
09:49That big lock-up cost him valuable time there.
09:53Quicken on Alonso,
09:53but the time behind both of the McLarens
09:56of Kimi Räikkönen and David Coulthard.
09:58There it is.
09:59It just took him in a little bit deep.
10:03He probably had to just feather it a little bit there
10:04as opposed to getting right on it where he'd want to.
10:07And just cost him that time.
10:10Montoya looking on.
10:11Remember,
10:12despite all the technical wizardry that's on these cars,
10:15these cars do not use any sort of ABS,
10:18anti-lock braking system.
10:19They used to use it.
10:20It was banned at the end of the 93 season.
10:21Since then,
10:22there's no servo control or anything
10:24on these Formula One race cars.
10:25They're single-seater.
10:26So it's all down to the driver's ability
10:28to be able to modulate that brake pressure himself
10:31by just,
10:32as David Wright says,
10:33feathering the brake pedals
10:34to just control the pressure.
10:36Now,
10:36Jano truly comes up to start his qualifying run.
10:41His teammate, Alonso,
10:43at the moment,
10:43currently lying fourth.
10:44This is the Tosa hairpin.
11:06That's it.
11:09That's the slowest corner on the track.
11:11The Tosa hairpin,
11:11the approach to which
11:12has been rather messed up
11:14by the Villeneuve,
11:15sort of,
11:15if they call it the curve Villeneuve,
11:17it's a bit of a chicane.
11:18And it used to be a great
11:19out-breaking area
11:20into Tosa,
11:21but no longer.
11:21These guys,
11:30David,
11:31very,
11:32very upbeat this weekend.
11:36Well,
11:36they've had an incredible start
11:37to the season,
11:38really,
11:38with Alonso being on the podium twice.
11:41The youngest driver in Grand Prix,
11:43by a significant margin.
11:45Mike Gascoigne,
11:46the team's technical director,
11:47said,
11:47coming into this race,
11:48this is going to be
11:49our strongest track
11:50all year long.
11:51We're about to see
11:56what Yano Trulli can do here.
12:03Fifth,
12:03as Yano Trulli
12:04goes over the line in fifth,
12:06we'll take a short break
12:07before we come back
12:08to San Marino,
12:09where we'll be watching
12:10Juan Pablo Montoya.
12:11So,
12:12don't go away,
12:12stay right here with us
12:13on Speed.
12:18Speed Channel's coverage
12:19of Formula One Qualified
12:20is brought to you by
12:21BMW.
12:22Visit your local
12:23BMW center
12:24for a test drive.
12:25BMW,
12:26the ultimate driving machine.
12:34Welcome back to
12:35the San Marino Grand Prix
12:36from Mimola.
12:37Juan Pablo Montoya
12:38is just about
12:39to start his lap.
12:41He was quickest
12:41this morning.
12:42Can he really
12:43crank one out
12:44this afternoon
12:44to get,
12:45well,
12:46not provisional pole,
12:47but at least
12:47to get himself
12:48fastest this afternoon
12:49because this is just
12:50provisional.
12:51Down to the
12:52Tamburello
12:53chicane.
13:00BMW reputed
13:01to have
13:01the most horsepower
13:02still.
13:03and he was
13:05second quickest
13:06this morning,
13:06121.409.
13:08Montoya racked up
13:09in free practice.
13:12Well,
13:12fastest in the
13:13first section.
13:15Yeah,
13:15his teammate
13:16was quickest
13:16this morning,
13:16Ralph Schumacher,
13:17who must have been
13:18breathing a bit
13:18of a sigh,
13:19I believe.
13:19under quite a lot
13:20of pressure
13:21from the team.
13:23Down towards
13:24Jaclyn Minerali.
13:25This is difficult.
13:26You really have
13:27to get the acceleration
13:28now to come out
13:29of here to get
13:29this burst up the hill
13:30where traction control
13:32really comes to
13:33its own there
13:33as opposed to that
13:34lateral acceleration.
13:36Big improvement there.
13:40And swoop down
13:41here to the
13:42Vazza.
13:45As we saw
13:46from
13:46this is
13:48easy to approach
13:49to Vazza.
13:50This is called
13:51just really
13:51That would have
13:53lasted a bit of time.
13:57Now,
13:58hard left,
13:59right,
14:00across the line.
14:04There it is.
14:05Very,
14:07yeah,
14:07six,
14:09just over
14:09half a second
14:10quicker
14:11than
14:12Kimi Räikkönen.
14:13So,
14:15that puts him
14:15at the top
14:16for the time sheet
14:16so far.
14:19Montoya this morning
14:20did 16,
14:2218 laps.
14:23His teammate
14:23did 20.
14:25Michael Schumacher
14:26this morning
14:27only did
14:29nine
14:29for some reason
14:30or other.
14:33I think
14:33he had some
14:34mechanical problems
14:34on the car.
14:35I think he had
14:36a mechanical problem
14:37on his first run.
14:38So,
14:44this is
14:45Ruben's Barrichello.
14:46As you can see,
14:46you're driving
14:47last year's Ferrari
14:47and remember,
14:48this is
14:49Imola,
14:50the Samarino Grand Prix
14:51at Imola,
14:51so this is really
14:52Ferrari's back door.
14:54It's really no distance
14:55from here to
14:56Moderna.
14:56You just get on
14:57the freeway
14:57and go through
14:58the Po Valley
14:58up to Bologna
14:59and then next stop
15:00is Moderna
15:00only 70 or 80 miles
15:02from here.
15:03And in my experience,
15:05David,
15:05I don't know
15:05your experience
15:06is going to be
15:07similar,
15:07but I always found
15:08there was greater
15:09support,
15:10really local
15:10hardcore Ferrari
15:12fans would turn up
15:12here as opposed
15:13to Monza
15:14and right through
15:15the weekend sessions
15:16as long as the
15:17teams were working
15:18on the cars
15:19the Ferrari fans
15:20would be there
15:20whether that was
15:21midnight,
15:21one, two, three
15:22or right through
15:23the night
15:23there would be fans
15:24in the stands
15:25in the grandstands
15:26opposite the pits
15:26supporting the team
15:28right through the night,
15:29right through the
15:30weekend.
15:30Well, Barrichello
15:31a little bit off
15:31the pace
15:32in that first sector
15:33so how is he
15:33down this one?
15:34This is, as you
15:34said, this is a
15:35very crucial corner
15:36this Aquaminerale
15:37steep climb out of it
15:39so a good exit
15:41is very important.
15:42Ah, big time gain
15:44there.
15:46Oh, under curb
15:47there that
15:47Variante Alta
15:48but not too much
15:49that was a nicely
15:50sort of controlled
15:52run.
15:52You want to get
15:52all the road there
15:53but you don't want
15:54to go too far
15:54now the Rivacza
15:55this is a real
15:56critical corner.
15:57Really, this is
15:57two corners
15:58as far as I can see
15:59it's always been
15:59called, you know,
16:00one corner
16:01with a double apex
16:02but the track
16:03in between
16:03is really long
16:04enough that you
16:04have to set
16:05the car up again
16:05though.
16:05You do really,
16:06yeah.
16:10Okay.
16:12Oh, joy
16:13away from the crowd
16:14from the crowd, no doubt.
16:16Half a second lead
16:17there for Rubens
16:18Barrichello.
16:19His teammate
16:19Michael Schumacher
16:20is about to go out
16:21and this is what
16:22happened to Michael
16:22Schumacher
16:23this morning.
16:25Oh, that's
16:26Barrichello.
16:26Well, look, you can see
16:27we've highlighted
16:27the left rear suspension
16:28has failed there.
16:29Now, we're not sure
16:30whether or not
16:30that was really
16:31cause or effect
16:32or whether or not
16:33he clipped the barrier
16:33afterwards and that
16:34broke the left rear
16:35suspension but again
16:36what we're talking
16:37about earlier on
16:37is that a result
16:38of the cars
16:39having to slam
16:40over these curbs
16:41really and putting
16:41that suspension
16:42load through.
16:42It just can't do
16:44them any good.
16:44No, it is a great
16:46concern, always has
16:46been for the teams
16:47but in previous years
16:48again we keep
16:49touching on the fact
16:50that they've now
16:50gone to a full
16:51carbon fiber suspension
16:52as opposed to steel
16:53there really is very
16:54little leeway
16:56with the suspension
16:56loads through
16:57these carbon fiber
16:58suspensions.
16:58They work great
16:59or they've absolutely
17:00collapsed.
17:02Pole position
17:03last year
17:04was a 1.21.091
17:06so Rubens
17:08Barrichello
17:09is just a hair
17:10quicker.
17:11How can his
17:12teammate
17:12do down
17:13to this
17:14Tambrello
17:14complex?
17:18And again
17:18we said
17:20during the
17:20Brazilian Grand
17:21Prix that we're
17:22all expecting
17:22to see the
17:23debut of the
17:24new Ferrari
17:24for those of
17:25you are thinking
17:26well is this
17:26it, is this
17:27the F2003
17:28GA?
17:29The suffix
17:30is for
17:31Giano Agnelli
17:32the head of
17:33Fiat who
17:33recently died
17:34who was a
17:35great Ferrari
17:36supporter.
17:36That has not
17:37happened for
17:38some reason.
17:38The 2003
17:39car has again
17:40been delayed.
17:41They were
17:41going to
17:42shake the
17:42cars down
17:42at
17:43Fiorano
17:43and bring
17:43them here.
17:44Three
17:44examples
17:44but that
17:46has not
17:46happened.
17:47A slightly
17:48unusual quote from
17:49was up in
17:49that first sector
17:50which his
17:51teammate
17:52Barrichello
17:52was down
17:53on.
17:53What about
17:53this second
17:54sector?
17:57Down again
17:57so
17:58on a good
17:59run here
18:00and the
18:01again they go
18:02wide there
18:02they do go
18:03wide.
18:03There's that
18:03sort of
18:04grass crete
18:06that they all
18:06use out there
18:07down to
18:07Rivazza
18:07this is such a
18:08crucial corner
18:09this is where
18:10Fisichel lost
18:11all his time
18:11there's that
18:12stretch you're
18:12talking about.
18:13It's a long
18:14stretch isn't
18:14it really.
18:16And now this
18:17last little
18:18chicane the
18:19left right
18:20flick which
18:20will bring the
18:21car back onto
18:21the main
18:22straight then
18:22it's all about
18:23getting the
18:23power down and
18:24cross that
18:24finish line.
18:27Good enough
18:28for P1.
18:30Quite a bit
18:30quicker too.
18:31Good lord that's
18:32half a second
18:32quicker than
18:33Barrichello who
18:34was already
18:34half a second
18:36quicker than
18:36Juan Pablo
18:37Montoya.
18:38That's a great
18:39slow-mo shot to
18:40see how the
18:40front of that
18:41car really is
18:41still working
18:42very well.
18:43Under these
18:44conditions although
18:45Ferrari haven't
18:46had a great
18:46start to the
18:47season you look
18:47at the fastest
18:48lap times during
18:49the races and
18:49Ferrari is still
18:50very much on
18:51the pace with
18:51their car last
18:52year's car.
18:53That man there
18:54Jean Todd his
18:55explanation of
18:55why the new
18:56car hasn't
18:56arrived he says
18:57we've got
18:57running in
18:58problems with
18:59it.
18:59Well I've
18:59never heard
18:59what a
19:00running in
19:00problems is
19:01with a
19:01Formula 1
19:01car.
19:02I can't
19:03believe how
19:03few people
19:04there are here
19:05for Friday.
19:06The man at
19:07the top there
19:07with the
19:08no shirt
19:08on whose
19:09stomach is
19:09shaped somewhat
19:10similar to a
19:11certain person
19:12sitting in the
19:12booth now is
19:14taking advantage
19:16of the sunshine
19:16and watching his
19:17favourite team
19:18but there's
19:19not a great
19:20turnout for
19:22Friday.
19:23Now Ralph
19:23Schumacher was
19:24quickest this
19:24morning.
19:25Can he repeat
19:25this afternoon
19:26and take his
19:27brother away
19:28from that
19:28top spot?
19:29But don't
19:29forget of
19:30course it
19:30could play
19:31against you
19:31being fastest
19:32today because
19:33if it really
19:33does rain
19:34like halfway
19:35through tomorrow
19:36whoever goes
19:37last is
19:37whoever's
19:38fastest
19:38today will
19:39go last
19:39tomorrow
19:40could be
19:41in trouble
19:42because if
19:42it rains
19:43early
19:43it could be
19:44in luck.
19:45What's he do
19:46on his first
19:46sector?
19:50Ooh!
19:51Good time
19:52from Ralph.
19:55Ralph Schumacher
19:55the winner here
19:56in 2000.
19:57Boy they look
20:05so poisoned
20:06on that
20:06knife edge
20:07of adhesion
20:07going down
20:08to that corner
20:09and look at
20:10the brakes
20:10going there
20:11again this
20:12in Canada
20:13huge braking
20:14circuits there
20:15everybody's
20:15very concerned
20:16now Carver
20:17Industry
20:17and Hitco
20:19I'm going to
20:20let you listen
20:20to the car
20:21and I'll come
20:21back on that
20:21point about
20:22brakes.
20:27There's that
20:33stretch of
20:33track
20:34between
20:35the
20:35Vatsa
20:35189 miles
20:39down
20:39same as
20:39his brother
20:39Michael
20:40fastest runner
20:41through there
20:41so far
20:42the speed
20:42that was
20:42Coulthard
20:43at 191
20:44this is going
20:46to do it
20:47isn't it
20:47oh boy
20:50he lost
20:50he lost a lot
20:51of time
20:51there
20:51half a second
20:52over half
20:52a second
20:53gone
20:53but yeah
20:55both the
20:56major brakes
20:58the players
20:58let's just watch
20:59the Williams
20:59and see whether
21:00or not we can
21:00pick out where
21:01he lost that
21:01time
21:02well
21:02well
21:03there
21:04yeah
21:05you see
21:05that's the
21:06problem
21:06if you
21:07use the
21:07kerbs
21:08boy it's
21:09got to
21:09work right
21:10for you
21:10see
21:10if you're
21:11going to
21:11use the
21:12kerb
21:12it's got
21:13to be
21:13hey you've
21:14got to
21:15get it
21:15right in
21:15the car
21:15of course
21:16you were
21:16talking about
21:16the shock
21:17the damper
21:18speed
21:18has got
21:18to be
21:19just so
21:19right
21:20because if
21:20you do
21:21do it
21:21wrong
21:22it makes
21:22a complete
21:23mockery
21:23of the
21:23whole thing
21:24it just
21:24throws you
21:24right off
21:25it does
21:25and they're
21:26very steeply
21:27kerbed
21:27the angle
21:28of increase
21:29the height
21:29of it
21:29lifts an
21:31awful lot
21:31so you've
21:32got to set
21:32these suspensions
21:33soft enough
21:33to be able
21:33to absorb
21:34that
21:34but of course
21:35you take
21:36too much
21:36you try
21:37and pinch
21:37too much
21:37of the
21:37kerb
21:38and it
21:38will
21:38catch
21:38you've
21:38got to
21:39hit the
21:39kerb
21:39at the
21:39right
21:39angle
21:40too
21:40exactly
21:40the
21:41right
21:41angle
21:41Heinz-Harold
21:42Frensen
21:42now on
21:43the track
21:43flying 10th
21:45in the
21:45world
21:45championship
21:46and Heinz-Harold
21:47this morning
21:48was
21:507th
21:52this morning
21:52had a good
21:52run
21:53this morning
21:53yes
22:01both the
22:01brake disc
22:02manufacturers
22:02have produced
22:03new carbon
22:03discs
22:04for these
22:05circuits
22:05and for
22:06Canada
22:06later on
22:06which should
22:07be much
22:07harder
22:08wearing
22:08should
22:08be able
22:08to cope
22:09with
22:09the
22:09pressures
22:10of
22:10the
22:11track
22:11but
22:11the
22:11biggest
22:11concern
22:12is
22:12of course
22:12that
22:12the
22:12aerodynamicists
22:13don't
22:13want
22:14to put
22:14the
22:14brake
22:15that's
22:15on
22:15to
22:15keep
22:15them
22:15cool
22:16so
22:16they
22:17want
22:17to keep
22:17it
22:17to
22:17an
22:17absolute
22:18minimum
22:18to
22:18increase
22:19the
22:19airflow
22:19over
22:19the
22:19front
22:20wing
22:20which
22:20helps
22:20with
22:20the
22:20aerodynamics
22:21the
22:21mechanical
22:22engineers
22:22are
22:22saying
22:22but
22:23you've
22:23got
22:23to
22:23keep
22:23the
22:24brakes
22:24cool
22:24because
22:24they
22:24will
22:25still
22:25explode
22:26if
22:26you
22:26overheat
22:26them
22:26so
22:27that's
22:27the
22:27sort
22:28of
22:28trade-off
22:28we've
22:28got
22:28at
22:28the
22:28moment
22:29but
22:29unfortunately
22:29so much
22:33emphasis
22:33is being
22:33placed
22:34on
22:34aerodynamics
22:34on the
22:35cars
22:35these
22:36days
22:36that
22:36the

25:56Jenson Button
25:57suddenly got a
25:58bit of an uphill
25:59struggle here
26:00because his
26:01teammate
26:01Jacques Villeneuve
26:02just took
26:03fifth position
26:04third
26:06fastest
26:07Bridgestone

26:08so far
26:09Jenson Button
26:10is out
26:11qualified in two
26:12of the first
26:12three races
26:13can he do
26:17it again
26:17a lot of
26:19aggravation
26:20between these
26:20two drivers
26:21this year
26:21so
26:22there's a lot
26:23at stake
26:23every time
26:24one of these
26:25drivers go out
26:25on the track
26:26there's an awful
26:27lot at stake
26:28between them
26:29obviously
26:30their main
26:31rivals
26:31this year
26:31are themselves
26:32nobody else
26:33counts much
26:34now
26:34Jenson Button
26:36was the fastest
26:36of the Bridgestone
26:37runners out
26:37in free practice
26:38this morning
26:39Bridgestone
26:39seem to be
26:41pretty confident
26:41coming into
26:42this race
26:42of course
26:42these companies
26:43work so
26:43quick
26:44at coming up
26:44with a solution
26:45if they feel
26:45that Michelin
26:46have got an advantage
26:4723-2
26:50that puts him
26:50in pretty select
26:51company
26:52same speed
26:54as Ralph
26:54Schumacher
26:55was on that
26:55first sector
26:56there's
26:58Aquaminerale
26:59good shot
27:00from the
27:00helicopter
27:00there
27:01that sort
27:01of turned
27:01into a
27:02double apex
27:02right-hander
27:03with just
27:04a little
27:04short
27:05stretch
27:06in front
27:06there
27:06his teammate
27:17in that
27:17sector
27:17his teammate
27:18did a 27-2
27:19he did a 27-4
27:20this is the
27:21Rivazza
27:21one
27:22and two
27:23it's so important
27:25to get that
27:25second one
27:26it is
27:26yeah
27:26and you can
27:27hear the
27:28traction control
27:28working
27:29the engine
27:29ratcheting
27:30as they try
27:30and put
27:30the power
27:31down
27:31over the
27:33curb
27:33it does
27:36it does
27:36look very
27:36good
27:37and he
27:38does
27:38take the
27:39position
27:39away
27:39from his
27:40teammate
27:40who will
27:41no doubt
27:41be throwing
27:42his gloves
27:42and his
27:43helmet
27:43on the
27:43floor

27:47sure
27:48he had
27:48that
27:48fifth place
27:49sewn up
27:49absolutely
27:50especially
27:51when he
27:51saw
27:51that

27:52sector
27:52was a
27:53bit
27:53slower
27:53for
27:53Jensen
27:53so
27:54Jensen
27:54takes it
27:55away
27:55from

27:56Vildo
27:56there's

27:59wow
28:01and he
28:01lost a
28:02bit of
28:02time
28:02there
28:02because
28:02that's
28:03because
28:03he

30:26really
30:30on a
30:30terrific
30:30roll
30:31across the

30:42that scored
30:43Jaguar's
30:43highest ever
30:44grid position
30:45in
30:45Interlarvis
30:46unfortunately
30:47it was
30:47followed by
30:47their biggest
30:48shunt ever
30:48in the race
30:49and he was
30:52unfortunately
30:53he was
30:53unclassified
30:53because of
30:54the red flag
30:54otherwise he
30:55would have
30:55scored some

30:59not bad
31:0223-5
31:03puts him

31:23breathed
31:23a huge
31:25sigh of relief

32:01thing that
32:01Jaguar are
32:02benefiting
32:02from this
32:03year
32:03is the
32:04amazing
