The judicial system has officially welcomed 5 new puisne judges.

As they took their oaths of office at President's House, Chief Justice Ronnie Boodoosingh pointed to the expectation by the public for fair and timely trials in the country's courts.

00:10I, Josefina Batiste Mohamed, having been appointed a puny judge of the Supreme Court of Judicature, Trinidad and Tobago,
00:18do solemnly swear by Almighty God that I will bear true faith and allegiance to Trinidad and Tobago.
00:25All five puny judges taking their oaths of office in a promise to uphold the Constitution and the law,
00:32to do right by all people in accordance with the law, and to be fair and impartial in the discharging of their duties.
00:38For three of the judges, namely Busby Earl Caddle, Jones and Batiste Mohamed,
00:44the appointments come as a permanent post to their acting positions.
00:48While Justices Johnson was formerly a master of the High Court in Tobago,
00:52and Roberts, a registrar and marshal of the Supreme Court.
00:57Chief Justice Rani Boodoo Singh thanks President Christine Kangaloo
01:00for acting on the advice from the Judicial and Legal Service Commission in issuing the five appointments.
01:06He calls the manner in which it was done gracious amid being pulled off at short notice.
01:12As the CJ congratulates and welcomes the new justices to their permanent roles,
01:17he is giving recognition to their support systems.
01:20I wish to thank your families and well-wishers as well for the support that they have given to you over time.
01:27I remember when I was appointed many years ago, the support of my family,
01:35and I know how important they are to you in your attaining your positions today.
01:43So I thank you on my behalf and the judiciary's behalf as well.
01:49C.J. Boodoo Singh says the work of the appointees in the judicial system
01:53comes at an important time, given changes in the system.
01:58We've had a recent transition to a new Chief Justice.
02:03The demands of the public are rightly significant.
02:09members of the public are interested in ensuring that they receive their judgments in a timely manner,
02:19that they obtain a fair hearing, and that when they bring disputes to the court,
02:25that these are resolved in a fair, just, and efficient way.
02:31And he knows that it leaves the actions of the judiciary and those who operate within it open to public scrutiny.
02:38It is important that we all try our best to ensure that we maintain trust and confidence
02:45in the judiciary and in the judicial system.
02:49So those are the remarks that I would like to make to thank you all for your service to the country,
02:59to your continued service, and wish you all the very best.
03:04In future, I can let you know that your dockets are waiting for you.
03:09There's a lot of work to be done.
03:11The C.J. says training for the judges is continuing.
