00:47davis pointed out that teofimo lopez is a capable fighter noting that he had seen both amateur
00:53stevenson and lopez in action his observation suggests that while talent is evident on all
00:58sides preparation speed and strategy remain crucial factors in determining who ultimately
01:04dominates in the ring how do you see teo against shakur playing out because you want me to tell
01:08you the truth like that this fight could have been the winner's bracket fight in other words they're
01:14jumping to it but at the end of the era it may have been teo and shakur especially if you would
01:18never fight shakur right how do you see this fight playing out uh i see it playing out let's say
01:27i see it starting off slow okay and then i see as shakur wins the first round
01:33as shakur wins the second round slowly i think teo is going to eventually start picking it up and start
01:40imposing his will right and then you know it's just going to go from there that's how i think it's
01:45gonna go that's a fair so that's a fair one especially for that to be his brother i think
01:48it's gonna be close keishon davis recalls his sparring session with shakur stevenson saying it
01:53wasn't personal just competitive he explains that stepping into the ring he couldn't land clean shots
01:58while stevenson's counters connected easily despite this he kept pressing forward realizing that letting
02:03up could cost him the intense exchange taught him respect for stevenson's skill and reinforced the
02:08value of persistence and focus boom sparring they come i'm confident i'm knowing i'm about to go in
02:15here and beat him up right i'm getting in the ring man why i cannot hit this man right i cannot hit him

02:31something's getting through some not some get through some get not and i felt as if if i was to get
02:36step off the gas pedal he was going to get me so i just had to keep going you feel me and um i know
02:42he explained that a lot of times in interviews like that's why he respect me so much because
02:46in that sparring right there i didn't respect him at all i was just trying to i was trying to get him
02:51up you know what i'm saying like and that's what it was and after the sparring we respected each other

04:30keishon davis reflects on his long-standing connection with shakur stevenson from the
04:36very beginning the two shared a bond that went beyond the ring with keishon describing stevenson
04:42as a brother despite their close relationship a competitive rivalry developed pushing both
04:47athletes to improve and challenge each other at every stage of their careers this mix of camaraderie

05:08fighting shakur you know i'm saying i'm not it's just it's not even gonna feel right or some of the
05:12experiences like what you guys growing up like as young men and young teenagers in virginia like what
05:16some of those things that shaped you to know like he's my brother man i could never do that yeah the
05:20moment when i was like all right yeah shakur i i i i genuinely genuinely actually got real love for you
05:26was when um i was going through my my deep depression times even before i was going into
05:31the mental home i used to because i used to tell my brother a lot but then i started like backing off
05:37my little brother because he was my little brother i started talking to shakur a lot about like how i
05:41was feeling how i was thinking and what i was doing to myself and shakur was just giving me advice that
05:46i really like taking and like damn okay i got you and stuff like that and then i end up going to the
05:51mental home and you know like he calling me in there checking up on me and stuff like that i get
05:55out of the mental home he pulling up on me making sure i'm straight making sure i get back in the gym
06:00make sure i continue to do what i love so he was there for me with my worst times bro on the ariel
06:05helwani show shakur stevenson spoke candidly about his upcoming fight with teofimo lopez stevenson a
06:11rising star known for his precision and intelligence in the ring addressed critics who doubted his readiness
06:17or ability to challenge lopez he expressed unwavering confidence in his skills explaining that lopez has
06:23never encountered an opponent of his caliber stevenson emphasized that this fight would be unlike
06:28anything lopez has faced suggesting that his combination of speed strategy and adaptability
06:34would test lopez in ways no previous opponent could shakur stressed that his focus remains on
06:39the challenge itself rather than the hype demonstrating a mindset centered on preparation
06:44execution and the pursuit of greatness his remarks reflected not only self-assurance but also a deep
06:50understanding of the tactical demands required to succeed against a fighter of lopez's power and
06:56reputation stevenson elaborated on the importance of staying true to his style he noted that he does
07:01not intend to adjust merely to meet expectations or engage in unnecessary brawls instead he plans to
07:07approach the fight methodically controlling distance timing and pacing to exploit any openings lopez
07:14presents by maintaining composure and applying his boxing intelligence stevenson intends to dictate the
07:19flow of the match from the opening bell this approach highlights stevenson's maturity as a fighter
07:24and his ability to prioritize strategy over emotion demonstrating why he is considered one of boxing's
07:30most cerebral young talents it's cool i mean that's their opinion like you know they could say that um but i know
07:39he never fought nobody on my level like i'm a million percent sure that teo has never seen nobody
07:46as good as me in his life uh he he's talking about like once he gets through you then he wants crawford
07:53names like that how do you think he would do against someone like terrence at this point
07:57i think he gets knocked out can't even hang with him yeah he's too little but it's too big for him
08:05right as far as skills though do you think he's on par with the likes of of terrence i'm not gonna
08:12say he's on his on the terrence crawford level of skills but he's very skillful um he got a lot of
08:18things with him that puts him at a high level one thing that was interesting to me was it seemed like
08:23you were going to move on from match room but now eddie hearn is involved in this and this is a
08:27match room event it seems like i know it's a ring card too but he's promoting it here in the united
08:31states so what is the state of your relationship with eddie and match room at this point eddie's my
08:37guy i'm actually not signed to match room but he's my guy i'm a big fan of eddie hearn and um number
08:44respect him but um i'm glad he's the promoter that's on his car um i i'm glad to share
08:49the spotlight with his promotional company so so if he's your guy how come you're not signed to
08:54match room um i mean it's just business uh if it makes sense then i will you know if it um come down
09:01to it and that's what makes sense then we'll do it but um right now i don't think it makes sense okay
09:07so are you just more of like your own man at this point your own entity yeah i am okay do you do you
09:13negotiate with the ring people with turkey you just do that yourself uh no um my me and my manager um
09:22j prince yep okay bozy ennis a respected boxing analyst and commentator provided his assessment
09:28of the stevenson lopez matchup ennis issued a strong warning to teofimo lopez stressing that
09:34underestimating shakur stevenson would be a grave mistake he highlighted that stevenson's speed is
09:40more than just physical quickness it functions as a powerful tool in his arsenal allowing him
09:45to control exchanges evade attacks and create openings for precise counters ennis emphasized
09:51that fighters who rely solely on power without accounting for timing and movement are often
09:55vulnerable against stevenson according to ennis lopez must respect stevenson's capabilities as the
10:01combination of intelligence and velocity in the young champion presents a unique and dangerous
10:06challenge in the ring part and uh and i gotta i gotta tell everybody is that what you call him is
10:14real athletic too uh teofimo so i mean i don't think it's gonna be an easy fight you know i mean people
10:21think you know a lot of people say it's gonna be easy you know uh teofimo can punch and he can box
10:27and like i said he's real athletic so you know i mean that that'll make it a little difficult
10:32right there you know i see a lot of people going back and forth with it some people think tio got
10:37the advantage because of the weight no and that he's athletic and explosive some people say shakur
10:43is the better boxer yes right how you see that fight ending what they what they saying you know
10:48they've got the weight and all that i see shakur boxing big guys like heavy weights and all that stuff
10:53this isn't a stoppage i'm looking at a decision not a stoppage but didn't all the coin quoting
11:14how uh till come in till come and come at him you know what i mean you're gonna run into some shots
11:20because uh it might be over you know what i mean now you always tell me it's the shot that you don't
11:28see coming that that's the that power is speed right so could it be a situation where people
11:35underestimate shakur's punch or power yeah yeah i think shakur can punch you know what i mean i think
11:40you can punch it's just like i said speed is to me speed is power you're not them guys you know
11:45muscle balance guys come in and you're talking about oh he can punch and all that like i just
11:50got for the same like you just got for the same matter of fact the punch that you don't see
11:54knocks him out and they and they always say man i didn't see that punch coming that's the one
11:59dan rafael a veteran boxing journalist provided his perspective on the fight by highlighting the
12:04impressive careers and skill sets of both competitors rafael emphasized that the matchup
12:09represents a clash between a technically proficient boxer and stevenson and a dynamic powerful fighter
12:15in lopez he acknowledged lopez's explosive ability to change the course of a fight with a single punch
12:21while also praising stevenson's disciplined approach ring intelligence and defensive mastery
12:27rafael noted that this combination makes the contest highly compelling as both fighters bring
12:32distinct strengths that could dictate the outcome under varying circumstances
12:36they you know tfimo has been a bonafide world champion in two divisions he was the champion
12:41at lightweight uh you know had most of the belts defeated lomachenko uh you know he did suffer the
12:46upset loss uh to to cambosis uh there were some physical issues there uh that we didn't know about
12:51going into the fight not to make excuses for him but regardless he came back and uh and you know
12:56even though maybe he didn't shine and scintillate maybe in some of those fights after that when it
13:01came time to step up and take on the champ which was josh taylor he shined in that fight so when tfimo
13:06is matched you know in a big time uh big time opponent you know he's delivered and he's done it you know
13:12a number of times and uh you know he looked really good against taylor and shakor by the way similar
13:17thing he's been flawless through his career he may be not the most exciting at times but shakor stevenson
13:21gets the job done he has won titles from featherweight up to uh to lightweight uh you know when his back
13:27was against the wall quote unquote and everybody had big expectations and he had a lot of pressure
13:32on him not to make it a boring fight and all that kind of business you know what did he do in his
13:36last fight against william zepeda he stood in the pocket he fought the guy and he won handily he
13:40shut him out basically he won like 10 rounds in two i mean you know he fought a unification fight
13:46against oscar valdez a fighter that even though he might have been favored thought maybe oscar could
13:50do some damage because he was a good puncher and had a great amateur background and a great chin and
13:53all those types of things and he went out there and he routed him also i mean so you know
13:57these are two of the of the best young elite fighters in boxing and uh their fight has been
14:01talked about for a long time uh they spent their most of their careers together at top rank which
14:06is a fight if you ever ask bob arum uh he'll tell you that was a fight that top rank you know down
14:11the road had their eye on at some point when they were going to be you know closer and wait to each
14:14other because obviously uh tfimo had started off uh you know a little bit heavier than shakor but they
14:19would eventually catch up to each other they're both olympians by the way tfimo for yeah you know he's american
14:24but he fought for his uh parents country of honduras in that same olympic games that was
14:29of course stevenson winning a silver medal for the united states i mean they have all kinds of
14:33accomplishment they've uh i do think they have a healthy respect for each other uh they know each
14:38other for all the years being at top rank events together they fought on the same undercard twice
14:42when uh the main event was terence crawford who was obviously very close to shakor but tfimo was on
14:47those shows also so uh and they're doing it in the right place this is not a fight they're taking
14:53to a place that doesn't make sense uh you know all respect to the big matches they do in saudi arabia
14:58but this is the kind of fight that belonged in america and it didn't belong in las vegas it belongs
15:02in new york city at madison square garden tfimo was from brooklyn shakor is from newark new jersey
15:06which is a five minute train ride from the midtown manhattan i mean it's got everything you want to see
15:12the garden hasn't had a lot of big fights in the main arena over the last few years the last one they had
15:17was the the third fight between katie taylor and serrano but before that it'd been you know a
15:22couple years i think since they had a main arena fight so uh this is a big time fight tim bradley
15:28former world champion and respected analyst examined the fight through a lens of technical
15:32depth and significance for the sport bradley highlighted how the matchup reflects the
15:37evolving nature of boxing where young elite fighters challenge one another to define the
15:41next generation's hierarchy he drew parallels to devon haney's rise noting that fighters like stevenson
15:47are part of a movement emphasizing skill adaptability and strategic thinking alongside
15:52traditional power according to bradley this fight represents an opportunity for both stevenson and
15:58lopez to prove their status within the sport showcasing how the next generation balances physicality
16:03with technical excellence bradley emphasized that fighters such as stevenson set the standard for
16:08precision speed and tactical awareness which challenges opponents to elevate their own game
16:14lopez known for his explosiveness and athleticism must adapt to stevenson's carefully measured approach
16:20bradley suggested that young fighters observing this matchup can learn from both men stevenson's
16:25discipline methodology and lopez's ability to assert power and control under pressure ultimately bradley
16:31framed the fight as a significant event not just for the two fighters but for boxing as a whole
16:36illustrating the sport's continued evolution won at it again yeah i think i think devon haney setting the
16:42trend devon haney setting the trend yeah yep he setting the trend now all these young guys starting
16:49to test they self against each other now that's what we that's what we want to see that's what we want to
16:55see we want to see who the best is yo and then the winner of this fight right here need to fight devon
16:59haney why not why not keep it going keep it going but anyways look this is a message man anybody that's
17:07gonna be working that card y'all better make sure y'all do y'all damn hurt homework i'm talking about
17:11any commentators any host anybody do your damn homework man for real you know what i'm saying
17:17because it's not gonna be one of them fights where it's gonna be rock them sock them both guys hitting
17:21each other and stuff like that no it's gonna be small little nuancy type of things that if you don't
17:26know what you watching you can't tell us what the hell is going on all the fans at home gonna be
17:31like uh what's going on you know that they don't have the knowledge that you supposed to have to
17:37give us some food for our damn thoughts so do your damn homework on this okay oh that go for everybody
17:44that's gonna be calling this fight because there's every every every outfits that or every type of
17:50any outfits that's gonna be landing it's gonna have to be earned or set up both these
17:56guys are hot are intelligent right tiafimo lopez explosive hell he's smart as well she you gotta
18:02remember this man was the first man to beat the beat lomachenko yeah well before uh well before haney
18:10yeah uh-huh so look check this out and you already know shakor stevenson you know you know what he
18:17bringing to the ring defense first yep defense first you can't you ain't get nothing i'm gonna get mine
18:24when i get mine and when i want to get mine but you ain't getting nothing so look y'all might perceive
18:29this fight as being boring and this and that this gonna be one hell of a technical battle that i can't
18:35wait to see another viewpoint in the discussion focused on teofimo lopez's performance against top
18:40tier opposition analysts note that lopez tends to reach his peak only when challenged by elite fighters
18:47with his overall ceiling being influenced by the quality of the opponent in facing shakor stevenson lopez
18:53is expected to operate at the highest level demanding precision timing and full utilization
18:58of his reflexes this dynamic suggests that the fight will push both athletes to demonstrate
19:03their best capabilities with lopez needing to rely on his speed power and strategic awareness to
19:09remain competitive the analysis emphasized that lopez's natural aggressiveness and offensive
19:14instincts must be complemented by discipline and patience against a boxer like stevenson reckless
19:20exchanges or poorly timed attacks could quickly be exploited stevenson's ability to control distance
19:26read lopez's tendencies and anticipate attacks increases the challenge for lopez
19:31teofimo lopez needs opponents like shakur stevenson because they are elite fighters he needs that to bring
19:38out the very best in him i just can't see how it's possible that whilst teofimo we've seen a ceiling
19:44with him in terms of he's been beaten by certain opponents we know that he can lose in the ring but i don't
19:48know if that's a genuine ceiling because i think that his ceiling is actually one of the most changeable
19:52in boxing based on who's in front of him and so actually i think there's a very very good chance
19:58we're going to see the best possible version of teofimo lopez in the ring against shakur stevenson
20:03but we should talk about shakur stevenson before we get into the nuts and bolts of the fight what it
20:07might look like and why it's so risky for both men now shakur stevenson is currently undefeated he's 24
20:13and 0 with 11 ko's he turned pro back in 2017 he's the same age as teofimo lopez at 28 years old
20:20both men in their athletic primes he's five foot eight i mean these are on paper heights so
20:25potentially a little bit shorter he could even be a bit taller than teofimo lopez i really need
20:28to see them next to each other that's it for today's video stay tuned until next time
