00:00It's one game in the NBA tonight. We'll talk about San Antonio Spurs on the road to take on OKC.
00:05Overnight line minus seven. Now we're seeing seven and a half and eights in the marketplace,
00:08Joe, with a total of 228 and a half. Spurs thunder tonight. Give us a spread line on this one.
00:13Yeah, well, I mean, let's face it. You give me these two. This is all precursor to something
00:18we're probably going to see in the Western Conference finals here. But Victor Webb and
00:22Yama and company starting to go in the right direction as usual and as expected. And the
00:28thunder. I've hit a little bit of a roadblock here. Going to be interesting to see if San Antonio can
00:33do it in OKC. NBA talk. Let's get after it here. We sit here on January the 13th and say, OK, well,
00:41we're in the middle of the NBA season. Things start to ramp up. You're about what? Roughly a month.
00:45Actually, no, three weeks away or so from the actual trade deadline, which is funny. You see
00:49coincides with Super Bowl week, which adds to the intrigue. But the latest story that came out,
00:53we know LeBron James. You can argue. Could he be the best basketball player ever?
00:58Could it be Michael Jordan? He's always in that conversation and rightfully so. You don't play
01:02that long at that high level, not be included in every conversation. Oh, it's just all about the
01:06rings. Well, if it was, Bill Russell's the best player of all time. That's not how we do things.
01:10But breaking news from Yahoo Sports, which I had to retweet yesterday because I thought it might
01:13have been an Onion article. Let me read this to the people, Joe. LeBron James will wear a special
01:18edition patch on his jersey to celebrate his record-setting 23rd NBA season beginning tonight
01:23in Sacramento, the city where he made his NBA debut. The patch, which LeBron will wear for
01:28the remainder of the season, features a silhouette of his pregame chalk toss and three colored stripes
01:33representing the franchise that he's played in Cleveland, Miami, and Los Angeles.
01:37So let me understand this. Did we just realize it was his 23rd season, midway through the season,
01:43and we're going to give him a patch? Why was this not done before the season? And also,
01:47why is he even wearing a patch because he played so many seasons? What are we doing here?
01:51Honestly. Because it's all about the money with LeBron. The reason that he is doing this
01:59is because he has now cut a deal with tops. And all of these are going to become trading cards,
02:07Donnie. Get a load of that. They are going to be unique inserts in what is now, I think what we all
02:14realized is his farewell tour. So every game, each game, those patches will be removed from the
02:22jersey. And some of them are going to be inserted into basketball tops, basketball card packs to
02:29create that. It's all about the money with him. You know, this Donnie, it's always been about the
02:34money with him. That's, you know, that's so good. Cause I didn't do any background research. I just
02:38figured like LeBron made up an idea. It'd be cool. And I'll do this or that. But the fact that
02:42this is all just a ploy, because I thought something was amiss. If you would have told
02:46me, even if it was a tops thing to begin the season, nobody's played longer. He's going to
02:50have a commemorative patch, but now to put it out, like this is, this is awesome. He's going to wear
02:54a patch to commemorate his 23rd season midway through the season. I don't like, this is great.
02:59Like, Hey, give me a tops. And what do they do? Is it one of those show where he wears like,
03:02you know, 13 jerseys cuts, like a one by one square, and you get to include it in the card.
03:08And then he signs it. It's a one of one. It's a two of two. It's a three. Yep. Yep. That's it.
03:14All about the money, Donnie. And the, yeah, the reason it wasn't done at the start of the season
03:18is because they just ain't the deal. So there you go. That's exactly what's happening here now.
03:23Yep. Isn't that great? We like things that come across like organically, right? Like,
03:28you know what I mean? Like this is, and the fact that again, it reads as he's 23rd season,
03:32but tonight he's going to start to wear the patch because he just signed the deal at this point.
03:36What's next? The final game of the season is going to sign another deal with tops.
03:39I go on last game, my 23rd season, one of one card signed by me. And also you do get an extra
03:46card of Bronnie James here that he can sign as well and be part of that deal. Also, there you go.
03:50LeBron James capitalization on the market. There it is. The NBA finds Mr. Brown. Hey, look,
03:56stop talking about those referees out here. 35 grand, which basically this guy make like 75 a year.
04:01Anyway, what's 35 grand. And you write that off as a tax deduction.
04:04Yeah, no, that's good stuff. But, and by the way, I mean, while you're yelling at the refs,
04:09your Celtics didn't score a hundred points again last night, just saying. So maybe a little less
04:14screaming at the refs and maybe a little more offense from your teammates would be fantastic
04:20there, Jalen. By the way, why can't we just yell at the refs anyway in the post game? Like you're
04:24answering questions. Like the refs have to answer the questions as well. Hey, by the way, you know,
04:29Jalen Brown said you missed that call in the third quarter. What do you think about it? I don't think I did.
04:33Jalen Brown's like, yeah, he absolutely met. Why can't we rip officials when they're usually a lot
04:37of times when these guys rip officials, it's really warranted. Like they're like, I know I'm
04:41going to get fined. This guy stinks at his job. And we're like, yeah, he's right about that.
04:46Yeah. Yeah. Well, it's, it's, listen, you, you're supposed to allow the man, you know,
04:51the coach to do the coach is supposed to do that. And then, you know, the owner writes the check
04:56and everybody moves on and you know, you're not, they don't want that. They don't want
05:00the actual players getting in the face, but yeah, who are we kidding here? Uh, he's not saying
05:05anything that isn't true to a certain distinct, you know, a certain point, Donnie, but it's been
05:11like that for how long now in the NBA? I don't know, but let's, how long is it this? We trade
05:15superstars out there. And also how about this? There's a growing belief among rival executives
05:19that Jaron Jackson jr. Could be traded after John Moran gets traded Memphis Grizzlies.
05:26What are we doing here? Uh, they are resetting. Uh, that's what they are doing. They're out with
05:32the old, uh, in with the new listen, Zach Eadie is the future of that team. They got some really
05:38good young players. Uh, and it's time to go that old guard that Jaron Jackson, John Moran,
05:44who have been there, you know, from the beginning, those two, and it ain't working guys.
05:49It just ain't working. And if John Moran's going to be traded, then they're not going
05:53to pony up for enough money with, uh, uh, to resign Jared Jacks. So it's time for everyone
05:58to move on here. Time for a reset here. By the way, the Kings who won their 10th game
06:03of the season yesterday against the Lakers, one 24 to one 12, maybe some more tough practices
06:08on the horizon for the boys out in LA, but look at Donchish, he got his 42, eight, seven
06:13and four. And the Lakers have lost three straight games on top of those numbers.
06:17Yeah. But the defense, Donnie is really good. I mean, have you noticed, I mean, that it's
06:22really, they're really starting to turn. No, they're no, they're not. They just gave up
06:26124 points, uh, to the Sacramento Kings who are laughably bad on so many levels. Oh, and
06:33by the way, even with 42, the Lakers can only muster a buck 12 against the worst defensive
06:38team in the NBA. Kudos should have been 82 Donchick that you dropped in that game.
06:43JJ Reddick's going to be fantastic back on the sideline with Doris Burke on NBA games
06:48by next season here. If this continues to go the way for the Lakers this season, how
06:52about James Harden? He passed a Laker great and Shaquille O'Neal for number nine on the
06:56NBA's all time scoring list. The dude gets buckets. The dude's all the dude's going to
07:01move up the list, but pass is Shaq daddy.
07:03Which is hilarious because, you know, Shaq was a giant center and, and Harden is maybe
07:10the biggest ISO ball, uh, guard that we have seen in a very, very long time. So yeah, kudos
07:16to you. Uh, they are Harden outstanding. What records did he set defensively? I wonder in
07:22his career, does he have any of those? Uh, does he pass anybody to fit? No. Okay. Yeah. No,
07:27I didn't think so.
07:28Yeah. He's, he's the true sixth man out there on defense really makes that difference here.
07:32And by the way, for you young kids out there, I only see Shaquille O'Neal on commercials
07:36and behind the desk, roll some footage from the mid 1990s to late 1990s. Shaquille O'Neal
07:42is the most unstoppable player in the history of basketball. He didn't shoot three point
07:47shots. And by the way, I didn't see Shaq flopping all that much to try to get to the free throw
07:51line back in the day either. Oh, it's a Tuesday. Come on now. We just finished up on wild card
07:56weekend. It was a lot of fun. The NBA looking to take center stage right now. I got a lot
08:00of topics I had to talk to this guy about. It's DRS. It's Joe O'Neal. Let's bring in
08:03the coach James Young. It's a lot of stuff going around coach. And we usually like to
08:07say, Hey coach, how you doing? I don't want to waste any time here. LeBron James is getting
08:11a patch out here in these streets. Are you going to be getting one of those patches on
08:14those Jersey coach? How about that? Come on now.
08:17The funny thing is guys is, is the LeBron James patch going to be used for the entire season?
08:23That's the question that we all need to ask ourselves as LeBron is going to be getting
08:27the celebratory patch, which is low key wild. Can we talk about the fact that the Lakers
08:33as nine and a half point favorites lost by double digits at Sacramento last night, a team that
08:41let's be honest. You know, we talk about Trey Young in the trade and how Atlanta was playing
08:48better without him. Can we ever talk about the Lakers playing better without LeBron James?
08:53Like we need to have this conversation because to me, honestly, guys, I think he's starting
08:57to become a distraction. We know who the best team player in the team is. It's Luka Dodgich.
09:02I think the distraction is LeBron. Maybe it's time that we find a little bit of a change in
09:07scenery for the king and he can wear his patch somewhere else.
09:10Oh, coach. Well, Dennis Schroeder wasn't there, so we can't blame, you know, throwing Luka off
09:18his game because he threatened to beat him up outside the locker room there. But I think
09:22you're right, coach. I think it's time to have a serious conversation. I think it's also time
09:27to have a serious conversation about the Spurs taking on OKC tonight because, well, OKC's had
09:33been going through it here a little bit, which is to be expected. I mean, let's face it,
09:37coach. It's a lot of basketball for a young team over the last two seasons. But, man,
09:43Wemby and company, the Spurs certainly feel like they have figured it out. What are they
09:47at? Seven, seven and a half tonight again in OKC?
09:50It's amazing because, Joe, they haven't beat them once. They didn't beat them twice.
09:56They beat them three times. And if you think about it, that first loss in NBA semifinals
10:01has kind of sent, you know, OKC into a little bit of a tailspin here. Teams are figuring
10:06out. They're not going for the foul baiting of Shea Gilders Alexander. Shout out to, I
10:10think, Jason Kidd. I think it was Chris French, coach of Minnesota, who went nuts on them, their
10:18officials, a couple of weeks ago. And it's kind of toed it down. That's a sneaky, a big
10:24game for OKC. Not only just to get the cover, just get a win against San Antonio because then,
10:32if it's four in a row, now it really becomes a thing where that could be the Thunder's
10:38kryptonite. Coach, if we take a look tonight, Minnesota is going to play the Milwaukee Bucks.
10:43That game listed right now is a three and a half point favorite for the Bucks. But the
10:45bigger picture for the Milwaukee Bucks, we hear a lot of smoke. Like Giannis is unhappy,
10:49but he won't ask for a trade here. Maybe his agents are working there. I'm going to ask you
10:53this question as I set the table for it. Do you think, if you look at the Milwaukee Bucks,
10:57as we're settling in today, that Giannis is going to stay? But more important, coach,
11:02what type of help can the Bucks get Giannis that he's going to be happy about staying with as well?
11:07You know, what's interesting about Milwaukee is they are a team that's definitely the fork in
11:12the middle of the road. They have to do one or two choices. They have to go all in to get
11:17Giannis more help, or they got to get rid of him as the leverage, meaning the closer he gets to
11:24end this deal becomes a thing. And if you really think about it, they are old. They have no bench.
11:31They have no offensive creativity, and they have no tradable assets to move to try and get help.
11:38I mean, who are you going to trade at this point? Kyle Kuzma? Miles Turner? These guys aren't going
11:45to give you anything and value of return. And not only that, they have drafted poorly,
11:52taken a guy like I think the kid Johnson in the first run of the NBA draft, but it could have got
11:57someone that had college-ready experience to help Giannis now. That is the problem with Milwaukee.
12:03And if you look at the East, right, let's just say the next three or four years, they're not a top
12:10four team in the East. They're not a top five team in the East. They're not a top six team in the East.
12:14At that point, you become a middling franchise, and at that point, you need to have this discussion.
12:21For the long-term success of this organization, is it better for us to try and make one last run
12:27to make Giannis happy, or do we trade Giannis and then start over? I think you got to look at door
12:34number two. Got it. I love the whole, well, Memphis is shopping John Morant. Yeah, no kidding. They
12:44should have shopped him two years ago and got rid of him. The problem is, where does he go? Like,
12:50what team is going to sit there and deal with a dude who, A, has not been healthy or reliable,
12:57both on the court or off the court? Like, who's trading for John Morant here, coach?
13:01Well, here's the thing you're looking at, Joe, is number one is I think he's missed 40% of his
13:06team's games the last three years. Number two, he has his worst statistical season so far this year.
13:12Number three, he's got suspension issues in regards to guns, acting up, or whatever. So at this point,
13:19you have to think about this. It is the big star versus getting rid of dysfunction. You have to look
13:26at getting rid of this guy and starting over. It's either him or Triple J. And I know Triple J gets
13:33hurt a lot too, but I'm going to trust this guy because at least I know he won't get into legal
13:38trouble. He won't brandish a gun in social media, not just once. He did it twice. So at that end of
13:45the day, you move on. Where? You got to look at teams, particularly maybe in the West or East,
13:50that could think they need a point guard upgrade. Number one team to look at, Minnesota.
13:57Mike Conley is 249 years old. They could maybe move some guys to get him over there. I know Ant
14:04wants to play with them. The other team to look at, honestly, is Sacramento, but they're so
14:11daggone terrible. But look at Sacramento. Sacramento just beat Houston and the Lakers in the last two
14:16games. Maybe Sacramento's figured out. Probably not. But I still think at the end of the day,
14:20you have to get rid of them and go in a different direction.
14:23It's crazy. Like Trey Young was going to be that superstar if Atlanta Hawks fizzled out here. Same
14:27thing with John Morant, looking at that bright superstar there in Memphis. It just didn't work
14:31out that way, coach. But one more game tonight, I want to talk about the Hawks and the Lakers.
14:34We got some line movement. That overnight line was a minus one for the Atlanta Hawks. I'm actually
14:38seeing fours in the marketplace now as a favorite for the Hawks. Lakers embarrassed. Do they get
14:42embarrassed again tonight on their home court, coach? They lose. I would be shocked if Luka
14:48or LeBron plays tonight. That's why the line is moving. One of the two may be out. Atlanta looks
14:54really good. It's different now. Flexibility offensively. Move the ball. And we need to
14:59talk about Jalen Johnson being the most improved player in the NBA. What he has done has been
15:04absolutely fantastic. Coach, coming in is the sixth man of the year to help us out to talk
15:09some NBA action this morning. Take us to break with a fadeaway. You're the sixth man of the
15:14year. Come on now. Up here, coach. Knock it down. Come off the bench, coach. For me, we're
15:19going to the NBA. I gave you the Pacers. Nobody wanted last night but your boy DRS. Tonight,
15:2425% of the tickets coming in on the Pelicans at home. They're underdogs. We're taking the Pelicans
15:30plus three. Nobody wants the Pelicans. Your boy DRS, he wants the Pelicans.
