Supporters of Ugandan opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi, widely known as Bobi Wine, rallied in Kampala on Sunday, warning that they would defend their votes amid fears of rigging.
Crowds waved Ugandan and US flags, chanted slogans, and held placards reading 'No gain without pain' while dancing near polling stations, as footage shows.
During the rally, Kyagulanyi addressed the crowd directly, sharply criticising the Electoral Commission for controlling candidate nominations.
"The Electoral Commission in Uganda is now choosing candidates for us. We presented our candidates, but they nominated different ones on our ticket. Shame on them," he said.
"They said they are the ones who choose candidates for us. And as if that was not shameful enough, following the resounding defeat of 2021 - when we defeated almost seven senior officials, including the vice president and many other ministers - Museveni decided that his senior officials must not be contested," Kyagulanyi continued, accusing officials of shielding senior officials from competition.
“Our leader stands for a new Uganda. When we finish voting, even just 20 metres away, we protect our vote. If anyone tries to steal it, we demand it,” a supporter said.
Recent polls suggest President Yoweri Museveni remains ahead with roughly 45–55% of decided voters, while Kyagulanyi polls second with 30–40%, and other candidates trail in the single digits.
