Map Awareness S02E14
Transcript
00:00Hello everyone, I'm Moon, and welcome to another episode of Map Awareness.
00:13It's an exciting time right now with all of the upcoming changes and post-tournament
00:16discussions, so let's get to it!
00:18Today we'll be discussing CLG vs TSM finals, RNG dragon changes, and challenger team confirmations
00:23and rumors.
00:24Two splits in a row, CLG is victorious against TSM and take first place.
00:28However, this time around, quite a few changes had been made.
00:31And now for the most obvious roster change, long-time CLG member Doublelift was removed
00:36from the team and accepted an offer to play for TSM, making the final roster of CLG and
00:40Spring Split champions Darshan, Xmithie, Hoohee, Stixay, and Aphromoo.
00:46The TSM roster is Hanser, Svenskeren, Bjergsen, Doublelift, and Yellowstar.
00:52The teams did not disappoint all of the hype around the matches and delivered a full-on
00:55best of five.
00:56In a post-game interview with Hoohee, he mentioned how excited he was to play Echo, stating,
01:00Actually, I was so happy to play mid-echo, finally, because one of my favorite champions
01:04is Echo.
01:05In scrims, I was going off on Echo, so people were really confident with my Echo, Hoohee,
01:09explains.
01:10But one day Darshan said, Tank Echo is OP, therefore no reason to play him mid.
01:13I'm sorry, Hoohee, but I gotta play Tank Echo top.
01:16And it's like, alright, that's all yours then.
01:18And then today, we randomly came to the series and Darshan was like, if you pick mid-echo,
01:22I'll play Poppy.
01:23And I was like, really?
01:24It made me really happy.
01:26However, in the final game of five, CLG made an incredibly risky decision, having him play
01:30Lulu, who he hadn't played in weeks.
01:33His statement on the matter was, I didn't play Lulu for like three weeks.
01:36My team, they only play good around Lulu, so basically game five, I felt pretty useless.
01:41Because I was just screaming, Stixxay, you can go in, I'm shielding you.
01:44Stixxay, back up, I don't have my ult.
01:46I was doing no damage and praying we were going to win.
01:48I was confident with Stixxay even before who he continued, but now I'm even more confident
01:52because that game, it was all about trusting.
01:54I was putting every resource into him.
01:57Also following this glorious victory, none other than eSports historian Thorin called
02:01AfroMu the most valuable player in all of LCS, including other regions.
02:06So with that said, everyone is watching them for the upcoming international tournament MSI,
02:10which will be held in Shanghai.
02:12However, according to Hoohee, they already have it in the bag and have a 0.0001% chance of
02:18losing.
02:19It's nice to see that kind of confidence in CLG after so many trials and errors, but hopefully
02:23they'll continue not to disappoint.
02:25Now let's move on to dragon changes.
02:27Riot has been changing the jungle, monsters, and buffs a lot lately, but this time they
02:31messed with dragon.
02:32Riot released a statement that they'll be changing dragon in PvE out of its current five
02:36buff dragon system and into a four types of elemental dragon that come at random.
02:41Instead of the current five buff dragon system, we're changing it to four different types
02:45of elemental dragons, each of which gives a different buff.
02:48The types and order of elemental dragon spawn are randomized, with some restrictions, and
02:52it's possible to get multiple stacks of one element, e.g. two air dragon kills give more
02:57movement speed than one air dragon kill.
02:59After 35 minutes, the dragons are replaced by an elder dragon, who gives a consistent buff
03:04of his own and amplifies existing buffs when killed.
03:07Now a lot of people are asking why?
03:09Why change dragon out of its consistent, reliable self?
03:12But to that, Riot responds, exactly.
03:14They want to change game to game variation, but meaningfully so, with different strategic
03:18situations to understand and respond to.
03:21They also want to increase the average value of dragon, making it more appealing to contest.
03:25Riot explains that the reason behind the different buffs in dragons is they want to make game
03:28to game decision making different based on what buff you have, what buff you want, and
03:33what buff the enemy teams get.
03:34With the way things currently are, Riot feels as though the game is a bit linear, so they'd
03:38rather see the way teams mix up the approach.
03:40And with that, they acknowledge the potential issues and respond to them accordingly as
03:44well.
03:45Emphasizing that they don't want randomness to seem as though it's being a deciding
03:47factor in the outcome of the game.
03:49The buffs are designed to be appealing to both teams, even if the teams are running entirely
03:53different comps.
03:54They also want to keep things from getting too complex by carrying things directly from
03:57previous dragon buffs so that we can adapt quickly.
04:00Lastly, they just want dragon to be more appreciated, with its powers shown in more visible ways.
04:04This, like all other changes to the game, is varied in response by the community, but
04:08I think everyone agrees that we're just excited to see how the pros handle it.
04:12Now for some exciting rumors and confirmations of Challenger teams.
04:16Recently, an audio clip of the CEO of Immortals asking Quas to join his Challenger team emerged
04:21from Reddit.
04:22And it was rumored that the team would feature Quas, Fox, Santorin, Steelback, and Smoothie.
04:26However, the rumors were quickly clarified and shut down by the organization on Reddit,
04:30where they stated,
04:31We had thought about pursuing Challenger with something close to that roster, but won't
04:35be moving forward with it, a spokesperson for Immortals stated on Reddit, want to focus
04:39on some bigger stuff for this next split, and we didn't feel like we had quite enough
04:43time to do Challenger right this time around.
04:45So while there won't be a lot of roster drama surrounding Immortals this offseason, another
04:50team has some very exciting Challenger team news.
04:53Cloud9 released a video of High Elimination stating that they were indeed looking for
04:56Challenger players to join in their new team.
04:59They state that High, Balls, Rush, Solo, Lemon, and other players will be playing on C9's
05:03Challenger team in the Battleground Open Qualifier.
05:06And if that's not exciting news, I don't know what is.
05:09Thank you so much for watching this episode of Map Awareness, and if you liked it, don't
