In the Northern Territory, extreme heat is either hanging around or on the way for most areas. Forecasters say temperatures could top 47 degrees in some places, but the remnants of ex-tropical cyclone Koji could bring some relief later in the week.

00:00Another week, another heatwave, with scorching days ahead for Central Australia.
00:08An extreme heatwave warning issued today for communities along the NT's Buntean Highway
00:14and those further south into the Tanami and it'll hang around for several days.
00:19So that looks like temperatures up above 40 degrees, particularly in the western top end from around midweek.
00:27We're going to see temperatures up to 47 degrees, so around the 44 to 47 degree mark.
00:34Kalkarindji among the worst hit communities.
00:37With nighttime temperatures remaining in the 30s, there's little reprieve.

01:14whether it's up north, down south, remote communities, wherever.
01:18A severe heatwave warning extends across the breadth of the territory,
01:22from the east coast around Boralula to the Daly River region in the west.
01:26But there could be a reprieve.
01:28The weather bureau says ex-tropical cyclone Koji from Queensland may bring some cooler weather by the weekend.
01:35The ex-tropical cyclone is forecast to move westwards into the Northern Territory towards the end of the week.
01:42And that should bring some increased cloud cover and some rain to central districts easing those temperatures.
01:49Residents of the affected areas advise to avoid physical activity, keep up fluids and monitor for signs of heat stress.
