Convergence of Dual Heat Domes Over the U.S. — Risk of 110°F by July 4

Two distinct high-pressure heat domes are converging over the United States, prompting meteorologists to alert that this marks the onset of a widespread and significant heat wave for 2026, affecting areas that have yet to experience extended periods of extreme heat. By July 4, the combined ridge is forecasted to settle over Chicago, with temperatures in the 90s anticipated from Wisconsin down to the Gulf Coast. The heat dome functions like a barrier, trapping hot air while inhibiting cloud formation and rainfall. Residents across 30 states should prepare for not only elevated temperatures but also minimal respite from rain-cooled air. Experts indicate this could represent the most perilous heat scenario of the summer.
