00:00Public Works and Highways Chief Vince Dizon is in the midst of separating the grain from the chaff in his office.
00:07Earlier today, a number of pink slips was handed out to officers and personnel who did not measure up to the department's new meritocracy system.
00:15Argab Humilde has more on Dizon's housekeeping duties as part of his makeover of the department in this report.
00:21Department of Public Works and Highways or DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon has fired some officials for various reasons.
00:31The secretary fired four regional directors, two assistant regional directors, and two district engineers who are also under investigation.
00:39Three district engineers were also removed from their posts because they didn't meet the qualifications set by the Civil Service Commission.
00:46Dizon is scheduled to release new merit requirements for all officials of the department next week.
00:51There will also be a reshuffling at the regional offices.
00:54So far, there are 12 individuals who have been arrested and 15 more served warrants of arrest due to their involvement in anomalous flood control projects.
01:03The secretary also assured the people's money will be spent wisely and used properly following the signing of the 2026 General Appropriations Act by President Ferdinand R. Marcus Jr.
01:13The DPWH intends to fix flood control projects with holes before the rainy season begins.
01:18According to him, it is not enough to have someone in prison or held accountable for anomalous flood control projects.
01:25Likewise, the department will start fixing flood control projects in Bulacan, Oriental Mindoro, and Davao Occidental.
01:52The DPWH will also streamline or simplify its budget planning process. Under the new procedures or protocols, project alignment will be based on needs.
02:02All projects must have a plan and be endorsed by the development councils, and funds will be prioritized for the completion of ongoing projects.
02:47D-Zone is currently appointing new officials that will change the system in the department.
02:53The department will also conduct campus job fairs for graduating students and licensure exam passers in various colleges and universities starting this month.
