00:00We are concerned to see the violence that has been associated with the protests.
00:05We think that the authorities in Tehran need to do three things.
00:09They need to protect the lives of their civilians.
00:13They need to protect the fundamental freedoms that their people should enjoy,
00:18namely the right to peaceful protest, to be able to have access to information and communications.
00:24We've seen pretty much a blackout at the moment.
00:27And the authorities there really need to exercise restraint.
00:32It has been a repressive regime.
00:35We have long viewed it as a hostile state and a threat to security in the region, in the Middle East,
00:42and also implications for us here at home in terms of malign activity in the UK.
00:49And so the priority today, I think, is a peaceful transition, if that is what the people of Iran want.
