00:00Tell me a story, read me a poem
00:16Wrap it in melody, sing me the song
00:21Then let me hold it, deep in my heart
00:25Where it can speak to me all the day long
00:30The adventure of virtue, the adventure of truth
00:36The thrill of knowing that it's up to you
00:41Building a new day, shining in the sun
00:46This is my story, the adventure had begun
00:55The adventure of virtue, the adventure of truth
01:25Glad to have been of help
01:46Aha, just what we need
01:52Success
02:05Ah, this is no good
02:11Nothing, there's nothing here at all
02:26Now I've got to start all over
02:37I agree, Goliath
02:46It's starting to look like something
02:49Hey kids
02:51That, Annie
02:55For as long as we've known Jake, I never thought he'd ever let us pick through his junkyard like this
03:01How about taking a break?
03:05I just made up some fresh squeeze
03:07Are you kidding, Jake?
03:09We're not half finished
03:10Yeah, those front wheels, they weren't where you said they'd be
03:14Hmm, that doesn't sound like Annie
03:17And look at this
03:19Don't you have any steering wheels better than this?
03:22And what has gotten into Zach?
03:26We're still missing a bumper
03:28And we haven't even started painting it yet
03:31Hope you have lots of red
03:32Hey, careful!
03:34Hey, where are you going?
03:40Jake, what's he doing that for?
03:44If you don't know, I'm not the one to tell you
03:47Lemonade, Goliath?
03:54One more thing
03:55Clear your racer off my sidewalk, you hear?
03:58Miss me, you're it
04:13I don't even like playing tag
04:17Ari, sock
04:19Maybe you should take all this outside
04:24Play-Doh, we've been playing Ari's game all morning
04:27Tell him it's time to play my game for a change
04:30Ah, who ever heard a pin the tail on the prairie dog?
04:34I have
04:34I made it up
04:36And what's wrong with it?
04:38Play-Doh, we need your help
04:40In a moment
04:41We're in the middle of something right now
04:44But this is more important
04:47It can't wait
04:48Zach, Annie
04:50Please show some respect for your friends
04:52Yeah, we're about to start a brand new game
04:55Yeah, hold on
04:57Tag
04:58You're it
04:59Foul, no fair
05:02Play-Doh, did you see that?
05:11Hmm, gravity
05:12You're still in, sock
05:21Play-Doh
05:22Doink
05:23We really mean it
05:25It's about Jake Jeters
05:27You know the junkyard guy
05:28He wrecked our plans to be in Spring Valley's push car race
05:32All week he's been giving us junk parts to build our racer
05:35But this morning he cut us off
05:37No more parts
05:38Now there's no time to find new ones
05:41So we're out of the race
05:43He should hear one of your stories about being selfish
05:46Well, from where I was, it looked like Jake acted perfectly normal
05:50What do you mean?
05:51What do you mean?
05:52Normal
05:53Normal
05:54Perhaps you could have been more respectful of Jake
05:57Yeah
05:58Yeah
05:59Ahem
06:00You should always be considerate of others
06:04Hmm, look who's calling the canary yellow
06:07Suck
06:08Suck
06:09That's pot calling the kettle black
06:11He knows what I mean
06:13Hmm
06:14I never once heard Zach or Annie say please to Jake
06:17Like, sure we did
06:18Yeah, when he, well, right after he gave us
06:20It was that, I'm nice
06:21Guess we didn't
06:24Hmm, there's an old story called please
06:28I think you might enjoy it
06:30You see
06:31Inside everyone's mouth lives a little word named please
06:36To be strong and happy
06:38Pleases need to be taken out of the mouth very often
06:41But there was one unfortunate please that lived in the mouth of a boy named Dick
06:47Oh boy, oh boy, am I wondering if I'm ever getting out of here
06:51Give me cookies
06:58I want milk
07:01And I want them now
07:04So Dick's pleas grew weaker and weaker
07:07Oh, cough, that's not good
07:10I'm gonna be sick, I just know it
07:12Oh
07:14He waited day after day but never was let out
07:19Now, Dick had a brother, John, who was as polite as Dick was rude
07:24More bread, please
07:26Oh boy, oh boy, with all this sweet fresh air I could just
07:34John's pleas was strong and very happy
07:40Up and wide pleas to be saying
07:45saying, ah, ah, ah. Now, please to be sticking this under your tongue.
08:00Dick's please knew he just had to get fresh air, so he escaped.
08:05Freedom!
08:11John's please was, well, not pleased.
08:14Out, out, out! This is my mouth. I've got the papers to prove it.
08:18You're tracking in dirt, and who knows what else?
08:21Oh, look, I'm never used, so I never get out.
08:24I'm not moving in. I just thought, well, I'd stay a day or two until I'm strong again.
08:31Please?
08:35Well, that's a tongue of a different color.
08:39When my master uses me, we'll go out together, just the two of us, side by side.
08:50That very morning...
08:52Father, will you pass me the butter? Please, please?
08:56Well, John's extra polite this morning, isn't he?
09:00Mother, will you pass me a muffin? Please, please?
09:04Oh, he is. Why are you saying please twice, John?
09:08I... I don't know.
09:10Well, don't stop. I kind of like it.
09:15One can't be too pleasing in this world, you know.
09:19With all the attention his brother was getting, Brother Dick wanted to talk like John.
09:24Mother, pass me a muffin.
09:29Father, pass me the butter.
09:32But Dick couldn't say the word please because it had moved out.
09:35Please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please!
09:42This continued all day and night.
09:46By morning, Dick's please had so much fresh air, he was feeling strong and happy.
09:51Father, pass me some more milk. Please?
10:04The word slipped out as easily as could be.
10:07And from that day on, Dick was just as polite as his brother.
10:11Gee, I guess we never did say please to Jake.
10:21Or a thank you when he gave us the stuffer eraser.
10:24Not very respectful, huh?
10:26Being polite is the first step toward being respectful.
10:29This way, kids.
10:35It's always better to be polite,
10:37to be respectful to anyone you're with.
10:40Like in this story called Diamonds and Toads.
10:51Once there lived a mean, disagreeable, impolite woman who had two daughters.
10:56Her oldest daughter was just as mean and just as disagreeable.
11:00Bread!
11:01But her younger daughter was good, kind, and sweet-tempered.
11:05Water!
11:06You heard you, sister.
11:08Fetch us water from the stream!
11:11Yes, Mama.
11:12Excuse me, my dear.
11:28May I have some of your water?
11:30Of course, ma'am.
11:32Oh, for being so kind and respectful to me, I must give you a gift.
11:42No, that's not necessary.
11:53Oh, please.
11:54For what you've done, you deserve it.
11:56Now for your gift.
11:58With every word you speak, either a flower or a jewel will fall from your lips.
12:08It's about time.
12:21I was afraid you'd sold my picture.
12:24You needn't have worried, Mama.
12:33Flowers, pearls, and d-d-d-diamonds right out of your mouth.
12:39My wonderful, darling, talented child.
12:47An old peasant woman changed into a fairy and cast a spell on me.
12:51All because I gave her water. I was just kind to her.
12:57Mama, that makes us rich!
13:00Why, daughter, you must have this wonderful gift, too.
13:05Ha! You expect me to actually fetch water?
13:09Yes, so we can be twice as rich.
13:17Here, take this to the stream and give that old woman a drink of water.
13:20And be kind to her. Even if it kills you.
13:24Oh, my hands are gonna get chapped. I just know it.
13:26Excuse me, my dear. May I have some of your water?
13:29Do you think I brought this silver pitcher this far just to give you a drink?
13:34Hey, you haven't seen an old peasant woman, have you?
13:37No, I can't say that I...
13:39Stick your head in the stream if you're so thirsty.
13:41My, how rude and disrespectful.
13:43Well, I didn't come all this way to serve you.
13:45For what you've done...
13:47You deserve a gift.
13:51Well, I...
13:53Speak up. I can't hear you.
13:55Tell me, did you...
13:57See the fairy?
13:59Ah!
14:00Ah!
14:01Ah!
14:02Ah!
14:03Ah!
14:06Ugh!
14:15I...
14:15Whoa!
14:17I...
14:30Did you get your gift?
14:34Yes, Mama, I think so.
14:40Not feeling well, my dear?
14:44I...
14:45Oops, excuse you.
14:50From that day to this, while the older daughter could not speak without a shower of snakes and toads,
14:55jewels and flowers fell from the lips of the younger daughter because she was kind and respectful.
15:05Come on, let's see what Plato has to say.
15:08I get it. Jake got upset because we never thanked him for helping us.
15:14He deserved more respect than that, huh?
15:21I guess it'd be better if we treated others the way we wanted to be treated, huh?
15:25Yes, everyone.
15:28Like in the old Italian story of the Bell of Autry.
15:34Once in the city of Autry, the king bought a magnificent bell.
15:47This beautiful bell belongs to everyone.
15:51If you are wronged at any time, come ring it.
16:01My judges will hear your case and give justice.
16:05Rich, poor, old, young, anyone can come and ring the justice bell.
16:11Over the years, the justice bell rang many times.
16:26Many wrongs were righted.
16:27And the wicked were punished.
16:39But after so many years, the rope was worn down.
16:47What if a child is wronged?
16:49They could never ring the bell to alert us.
16:52We need a new rope.
16:58But there was no rope to be found in all of Autry.
17:01This will work.
17:04I just pulled it from my garden.
17:06It's as strong as a rope.
17:07As it happened, just outside Autry, there lived a man who was once a brave knight.
17:24When he was younger, he fought many battles with his valiant horse, who for years was his best friend.
17:32But as the knight grew older, he forgot about his friend and thought of nothing but gold.
17:44He became a miser, who spent every day thinking about making even more gold.
17:50I can't keep that old bag of bones.
17:58No one will buy him.
17:59I can't even give him away.
18:01No way with you.
18:03Shoo!
18:09Find your own food.
18:10In all the world, no one cared for the old horse.
18:37By now, he was getting very hungry.
19:04Then he saw the grapevine.
19:07What a fine meal he would make.
19:19It's the old miser's horse.
19:21He's ringing for justice.
19:23His master has been treating him so badly.
19:27He shall have justice.
19:29The poor thing starved.
19:30And his master sits at home counting his gold.
19:34Bring us...
19:35Bring us...
19:35The miser!
19:37Yeah, the miser!
19:38Yeah!
19:38The miser!
19:39This horse has served you well.
19:44Without him, you wouldn't have your wealth.
19:46So, you shall use half of your gold to take care of your horse.
19:51It will buy him everything he needs for his old age.
19:55The horse finally got the respect he deserved.
20:10You don't need to say another word, Plato.
20:13There's something we've got to do.
20:16And now...
20:17Hey, how about a game, pal?
20:19You can choose first.
20:20No, no.
20:21I insist.
20:22You choose first.
20:24Um, Mr. Jeters?
20:34We are so sorry for the way we treated you.
20:37We want to thank you for everything you did for us.
20:42Ta-da!
20:42Ta-da!
20:46Goliath?
20:47You better come out here and see this.
20:49Come on.
20:54Looks like we got some work to do.
21:04How do you want to be treated, my friend?
21:13That's how I want to be treated.
21:16These two things are connected, my friend.
21:26Just like the branches on a tree.
21:30We share the same roots, you and me.
21:34So have a little respect.
21:39Have a little respect.
21:41It doesn't hurt anybody to be polite.
21:48Have a little respect.
21:50And occasional please or thank you day or night.
21:56Have a little respect.
22:00Oh, have a little respect.
22:03Have a little respect.
22:04Isn't she a beauty?
22:09Thanks again, Mr. Jeters.
22:11We wouldn't be here without you.
22:14And they're off!
22:16You don't grow up for no reason.
22:42Not by being a fool.
22:49So give those folks who are seasoned
22:52All the honor they're due.
23:01Have a little respect.
23:03It doesn't hurt anybody to be polite.
23:10Have a little respect.
23:12And occasional please or thank you day or night.
23:18Hey, have a little respect.
23:20Just like a mirror or a jewel.
23:23Have a little respect.
23:24It's going to reflect on you.
23:27Have a little respect.
23:29Have a little respect.
23:31Have a little respect.
23:33Have a little respect.
