00:10Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs Michael George de Sombri says details on the allocations are still under discussions, pending consultations with officials from Cambodia and Thailand.
00:23We will be providing US$15 million for border stabilization to help communities recover and to support displaced persons, US$10 million in demining and unexploded ordnance clearing operations, and US$20 million for initiatives that will help both countries combat scam operations and drug trafficking, among many other programs.
00:45The restoration of peace at the Thai-Cambodia border opens new opportunities for the United States to deepen our work with both countries to promote regional stability and advance our interests in a safer, stronger and more prosperous Indo-Pacific.
00:59Cambodia and Thailand have agreed to a new ceasefire on December 27, following 20 days of fighting that left over 100 people dead and more than half a million displaced.
01:09De Sombri said the U.S. would continue to support the Cambodian and Thai governments in implementing the Kuala Lumpur Peace Accords signed last October.
01:19He added that the U.S. was optimistic that ASEAN's multilateral observer mechanism would help preserve lasting peace.
01:26De Sombri, who is currently meeting senior Thai officials in Bangkok, is scheduled to travel to Phnom Penh tomorrow to further discuss the implementation of the peace accords.
