US President Donald Trump says he will call the leaders of Thailand and Cambodia to help revive a possible peace deal, as a flare-up of violence along the countries' contested border intensifies, with dozens killed and hundreds injured.

00:08Both countries are blaming each other for the renewed fighting.
00:12The clashes follow a previous round of violence in July,
00:16ended after U.S. President Donald Trump called both leaders to help halt the conflict in the disputed border region.
00:23Now Trump is urging both sides to return to peace.
00:26I think I'm going to have to make a couple of phone calls on Thailand, but we'll get that one back on track.
00:32Trump's call will come as Thailand faces political turmoil.
00:37Prime Minister Anutin Chanvirakuo submitted a request Thursday to dissolve parliament, which the king has approved.
00:45This paves the way for early elections.
00:47Anutin said this won't affect military operations along the border with Cambodia.
00:52The government affirms that Thailand will remain fully committed to protecting the nation's sovereignty and territorial integrity in accordance with the law.
01:02As for Cambodia, the country has accused Thailand of carrying out, quote, brutal acts of aggression.
01:09The Ministry of National Defense spokesperson demanded that the Thai army immediately seize all the aggressive actions,
01:16stop spreading false information that distorts the truth,
01:18stop and discriminate attacks, especially on civilians and civilian infrastructure.
01:24Aside from Trump's upcoming call, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has also spoken to both sides, urging peace.
01:33Cambodia and Thailand have since held talks about opening a border crossing, so a ceasefire may be on the horizon.
01:40But for the time being, renewed fighting looks set to take a heavy toll on ordinary people.
