00:00This visit coincided with an almost unprecedented scale of Chinese attempts to intimidate Taiwan.
00:10Of course, the visit was planned earlier and had nothing directly to do with that,
00:15but we also, during the visit, reacted and condemned this action which was unprovoked, unnecessary.
00:24And if there is a change of the status quo, it's from the Chinese side and not from Taiwan.
00:30We are here also to defend the status quo, which is, I think, in everybody's interest, even that of mainland China.
00:40And I think we have made this message very clear.
00:44We talked about the further deepening, broadening economic cooperation,
00:51which is in our interest, which is in your interest.
00:55We are, as European Union, the biggest investor in Taiwan.
01:00And, of course, we are aware of your abilities and possibilities concerning the famous semi-conductors.
01:09We, as a parliament, have always pushed for more, because we think a one China policy encompasses everything of practical cooperation,
01:22and we should make use of that.
01:25And in a time where, well, many certainties on the global level, especially with regard to the US, are not there anymore.
01:36Not towards us in Europe, not towards you.
01:40That is the moment where like-minded democracies need to find common ground, close ranks,
01:48have, so to say, democratic supply lines established in order to strengthen ourselves mutually and reassure ourselves,
02:00and tell the bad guys on the world that they would also suffer if they unilaterally change the status quo.
