00:00He was on a fast track to become one of the young faces of the NBA,
00:03took the Hawks to a Western Conference final,
00:05lost, I think it was to Milwaukee that year.
00:07He did.
00:08And then Trey Young has just become impossible to play with.
00:11So the Atlanta Hawks, I know it's being called a trade.
00:15It was a salary dump is all it was.
00:17They traded him to Washington for C.J. McCullum and another guy
00:20that's not a household name.
00:22That's on an expiring contract.
00:24And that's it.
00:24No picks, nothing.
00:25No picks, nothing, yeah.
00:26So this is a kid that has all the talent in the world,
00:29is one of the great villains in the NBA over the last five or six years.
00:33And when his game is on, it's on.
00:35He's a very, very good basketball player,
00:37but a lousy teammate, doesn't like to share the rock.
00:41And the Atlanta Hawks have a better record without him this year than with him.
00:44But for a guy that I still think, while it's a fading marquee,
00:48is a marquee talent, to trade him for nothing in return
00:53might be the most lopsided trade in the history of basketball.
00:56Well, we'll see what happens with Washington and what they do.
00:58He has a player option for next year, so he could be expiring.
01:01I think they saved $70 million.
01:03So that makes him players in the free agent market for next year.
01:07Yeah, assuming he opts out.
01:10No, I'm talking about Atlanta.
01:10Oh, Atlanta, yes.
01:11But he could have opted out with Atlanta.
01:12They didn't know he could opt in.
01:15The tough thing is going to be he's still only 27 years old.
01:18Yeah, he's a kid.
01:18So it's not an age issue.
01:20The question is going to be, while he's a passer,
01:23he's not a good teammate so far.
01:26So the teammates hated him in Atlanta.
01:28The first thing he has to do is find the teammates there,
01:31find a way to make them like him.
01:33Well, look, he's now the best player on that roster.
01:36Right.
01:37Right?
01:37So hopefully he'll recognize that my career went south
01:41because now I'm in no man's land in Washington.
01:43Because he was the best part of the Hawks, too.
01:45But now he's playing in another city, a worse city for basketball,
01:48and no one cares about Washington at all.
01:50Now he's got an opportunity to kind of redevelop himself.
01:52Right.
01:53And redefine his game and actually get everybody involved.
01:56Learn how to be a leader.
01:56And it's okay if you want to take the last shot.
01:58I get it.
01:58You're the best player.
01:59Right.
02:00But you've got to be a better teammate.
02:01So keep an eye on that because that was a one-sided trade
02:04from a talent standpoint.
