00:00NVIDIA and Mercedes introduce next-gen self-driving tech.
00:04Computing giant NVIDIA has developed a new tech platform for self-driving cars,
00:09taking its first step into the automobile industry.
00:13The technology company, headed by Jensen Huang,
00:15officially unveiled the system at a recent conference,
00:18while also revealing its partnership with Mercedes
00:21to produce smarter autonomous vehicles in the near future.
00:25NVIDIA and Mercedes come together to unveil new self-driving tech.
00:28On January 6th, 2026, Jensen Huang introduced the world
00:33to NVIDIA's latest self-driving system, titled Alpameo,
00:37at the CES Technology Conference in Las Vegas.
00:40The NVIDIA CEO explained that the innovation would add reasoning to self-sustaining vehicles
00:45and would allow the cars to think through rare scenarios,
00:49drive safely in complex environments, and explain their driving decisions, as per BBC.
00:55Notably, Alpameo is an open-source AI model that autonomous vehicle researchers
01:00can access without paying a price in order to retrain the model.
01:05The chat GPT moment for physical AI is almost here,
01:08Huang remarked as he announced NVIDIA's foray into the sector of self-driving cars.
01:12Paolo Pescatore, a PP foresight analyst, also shared his two cents on NVIDIA's new tech platform,
01:18stating, NVIDIA's pivot toward AI at scale and AI systems as differentiators
01:23will help keep it way ahead of rivals.
01:27Alpameo represents a profound shift for NVIDIA,
01:29moving from being primarily a compute to a platform provider for physical AI ecosystems.
01:36At the conference, Huang and NVIDIA also presented a video demonstration of their product,
01:40which featured an AI-powered Mercedes-Benz model coursing through the streets of San Francisco,
01:45while a passenger occupied the driving seat with his hands comfortably on his lap.
01:50It drives so naturally because it learned directly from human demonstrators,
01:53but in every single scenario, it tells you what it's going to do,
01:57and it reasons about what it's about to do, Huang explained after the presentation.
02:02NVIDIA is currently working with Mercedes to produce self-driving cars,
02:06with Alpameo at their core,
02:07and will begin releasing models in the US in the coming months.
02:10After launching their product in the country,
02:13NVIDIA and Mercedes also have plans for the global market,
02:16with Europe and Asia being their primary targets.
