00:00You don't like cabs though, do you?
00:02Not on tractors.
00:03Why's that?
00:04Well, especially if you're working in weather like this, then very definitely.
00:06But I'm a hobby farmer.
00:08Gentleman farmer.
00:09I am, yeah.
00:10That's what they call you.
00:11I wouldn't call me a gentleman farmer.
00:12No, nor would I.
00:13I'd just call me a...
00:14Come on.
00:17I'm Henry Cole.
00:18That is comfy.
00:20And along with fellow fanatic Fuzz Townsend...
00:23That's a magnificent pair of choppers up there.
00:25We're back on the hunt for vintage treasures in the nation's sheds.
00:29Look at this.
00:31We're gonna buy them.
00:32Fix them.
00:33That is fantastic.
00:34And sell them for a tidy profit.
00:38Welcome to Shed and Buried.
00:45We're off to Chepstow to see Geoff.
00:48Our Geoffrey has got a bit of a farm.
00:52Right?
00:53Yes.
00:54We're going bucolic.
00:55That means countryside now.
00:57Oh, wait a minute.
00:58We're talking farm machinery and tractors.
01:00We're talking implements.
01:02Fabulous.
01:03We're talking tractuars.
01:05Yeah.
01:06And we're talking any other things that may distribute seed or cultivate the ground.
01:11Right.
01:12Lovely.
01:13Lovely stuff.
01:15I think it'd be rather fun.
01:16Yeah.
01:17So then we go to a farmyard.
01:18Geoff wants to get rid of a tractor or something.
01:20And we're gonna go and have a little homage.
01:23Brilliant.
01:24Well, that sounds great.
01:28Whether we come back with a tractor, a plough, or a Wurzle's calendar, who knows?
01:33But Chepstow, here we come.
01:35There's a gap here, Geoff.
01:36So if I come anywhere near you, I get rained on.
01:37Come back.
01:38Okay.
01:39Geoff, now look, you've obviously got a love of tractors.
01:40I am.
01:41Yeah.
01:42Go on then, tell us why.
01:43Just basically when I was 13, 14, starting work on the local farm.
01:44Yeah.
01:45And learning to drive on the tractors and it's gone from there.
01:46Yeah.
01:47And it's stayed with you all this time.
01:48It has.
01:49It has.
01:50And it's got worse because the collection has got bigger over the years.
01:51We've got quite a lot of tractors to get through here.
01:52Yeah.
01:53Are they all up for sale?
01:54Some I want to keep.
01:55Yeah.
01:56So we need to ask you before making a bid.
01:57Well, look, I'll tell you what.
01:58We'll have a quick rummage and then hopefully we might be able to find a deal somewhere along
02:01the line, eh?
02:02Excellent.
02:03Yeah.
02:04Yeah.
02:05Yeah.
02:06Yeah.
02:07Yeah.
02:08Yeah.
02:09Yeah.
02:10Yeah.
02:11Yeah.
02:12Yeah.
02:13Yeah.
02:14Yeah.
02:15Yeah.
02:16Yeah.
02:17Yeah.
02:18Yeah.
02:19Yeah.
02:20Yeah.
02:21Great stuff.
02:22Jeff, thank you so much.
02:23And I'm so glad I brought the weather with me.
02:25Yeah.
02:26That's great.
02:27I won't be going outside, Jeff, for a while.
02:29If there are tractors outside, I'll look at them from distance.
02:32Yeah.
02:36When I heard that Jeff had a big collection, I really didn't think he'd have a whole barn
02:41full of tractors.
02:42And where better to start than this?
02:45International.
02:46A lovely 275, this.
02:47Yeah.
02:48So late 60s.
02:49Yeah.
02:50I would think so.
02:51Sort of, you'll get into the era where things are a little bit more powerful.
02:54People want a little bit more power on their farms.
02:56Yeah.
02:57So this one had a front loader at some stage.
02:58Yeah.
02:59I like it.
03:00It has a three point linkage as well.
03:01Yeah.
03:02Can I just say.
03:03Yeah.
03:04That these internationals are, in my experience, quite a lot cheaper than Fergie's.
03:09You get a lot of bang for your book.
03:11Yeah.
03:12Okay, so look behind us.
03:13Okay.
03:14A little Kubota.
03:15We've got, it seems, a Kubota.
03:16Yeah.
03:18Founded in 1890, Kubota is one of Japan's oldest tractor manufacturers.
03:24The old 2000 is a 20 horsepower compact model that's perfect for small holdings.
03:30Yeah.
03:31Okay.
03:32So look, Kubota looks as though it's sort of seen slightly better days, but at the same
03:36time.
03:37Well, that's right.
03:38I mean, you know.
03:39Tires are new.
03:40Yeah.
03:41If it runs and drives, that's a nice little thing.
03:42And because of its narrowness, it's probably quite useful.
03:46Yeah.
03:47Yeah.
03:48Hey, I'll tell you something that does worry me here.
03:49There's a hammer.
03:50That's probably from putting the pins in.
03:52Well, they say there's nothing the hammer can't fix.
03:55Yeah.
03:56Yeah.
03:59There's another small tractor nearby, an Ozeki.
04:03But the most intriguing mini tractors are these yellow perils.
04:07They look like slightly messed up dumper trucks.
04:11Geoff, come on in.
04:13Now look, right, I'm a bit bamboozaloided.
04:16Because these do look like a back to front dumper.
04:19They're actually, this one was made by Winger.
04:22Yeah.
04:23Oh, they do, yeah.
04:25Dumpers, yeah.
04:26Yeah, right.
04:27Big manufacturer of dumpers.
04:28Wingers!
04:29I want to be called Wingers.
04:30They call you Wingnut.
04:31All right.
04:32So in the, in the 60s, they started building these, these small tractors.
04:36They were quite expensive.
04:37And the other problem with them was that you needed the implements to go with them.
04:41Is that because?
04:42That's it.
04:43Instead of using the standard, what they call category one, three point linkage.
04:46Yeah, three point linkage.
04:47Yeah.
04:48They, they had their own system.
04:49So you had to, yeah.
04:50All the, all the implements to go with them.
04:52No, they probably thought that that was part of it.
04:54They're going to make a fortune.
04:55Of course, nobody bought these.
04:56Yeah, exactly.
04:57And they're both available.
04:58Yeah.
04:59For the right price, Geoff.
05:00For the right price.
05:01Yeah, good.
05:02All right, mate.
05:03Thanks so much.
05:04I'm now going to go off and have a look at one of my favourite tractors.
05:05Come on then.
05:06Come on then.
05:07Let's go and have a look at it.
05:08Hey, thanks so much, mate.
05:09We'll see you in a bit.
05:10One of my favourites is, and always will be, the little grey Fergie.
05:15Well, this was the end of the horse really, wasn't it?
05:18It was, wasn't it?
05:19Beginning of horsepower.
05:20Yeah, exactly.
05:21I do like a horse.
05:22Yeah.
05:23But not as much as horsepower.
05:24No.
05:25Well, I know what you mean.
05:26But this looks like a pretty early machine there.
05:30I mean, most of these had the standard engine, as in standard Triumph engine.
05:35Is that right?
05:36Like a Triumph TR2, TR3.
05:38What, petrol?
05:39Yeah.
05:40Yeah.
05:41There's a three-point linkage there with it, which Ferguson designed.
05:43That is definite possibility.
05:44Tyres are pretty good.
05:45I did see another one of these outside the front, but...
05:47Well, it's raining.
05:48I won't go out.
05:50Come on.
05:51Geoff's other undercover classics include an MF35 mid-resto.
05:56It's been having a bit of work on there, I can see.
05:59Looks like a couple of new valves in there.
06:02Right.
06:03So that's good.
06:04Oh, okay.
06:05That's good.
06:06That's on the way back.
06:07And a European aristocrat.
06:08Give it a little tug.
06:09There we go.
06:10Now then, I thought...
06:11Ah, okay.
06:12All right.
06:13I was wrong.
06:14Oh, there we are.
06:15I thought it was a Porsche because of the red front.
06:17Ah, no.
06:18But it's actually a Lamborghini.
06:20It is a Lamborghini.
06:21Isn't it?
06:22So is this a two-cylinder diesel?
06:24Two-cylinder diesel.
06:25Yeah.
06:26And how did you come about this one, Geoff?
06:28You bought it in Brittany, in France.
06:30Did you?
06:31Oh.
06:32Did you?
06:33Yeah.
06:34Did you drive it back?
06:35Yeah.
06:36What?
06:37Long before they built super-fast sports cars, Lamborghini was a tractor manufacturer.
06:42Founded in 1948, initially they used Morris engines and military surplus gearboxes.
06:49And by the 1960s, their tractors were all Italian award winners.
06:54It impresses people when you tell them that you own a Lamborghini.
06:57You've got a Lambo?
06:58Yeah.
06:59Is this for sale?
07:00Uh, not really.
07:01Not really.
07:02Not really.
07:03Okay, mate.
07:04Alright.
07:05Happy days.
07:06Okay, let's move on.
07:07Right, let's go out.
07:08Now, the rain has subsided.
07:09Un peu.
07:10That's French.
07:11Outside, the rain has indeed stopped.
07:13Hey, are we alright, mate?
07:15Revealing a farmyard full of rusty classics and Geoff's second little grey Fergie.
07:21Now, this, to me, exudes charm.
07:25This, yeah.
07:26Is that picture on the front of a box of toffees at the gift shop, isn't it?
07:31This is a lovely little thing.
07:33Okay, alright.
07:34Well, okay, look, what have we got here then?
07:35We've got a grey Fergie.
07:36Yeah.
07:37It's nearly grey.
07:38It's mainly brown, actually.
07:39Yeah.
07:40The steering, I just had a little feel.
07:41Okay, it's quite tight.
07:42Yeah, it feels very tight.
07:43Does it?
07:44Just have a feel of that, sir.
07:46Yeah.
07:47Oh, I knew that would happen.
07:48It's just a bit of...
07:49Look at your hands.
07:50I know.
07:51I know, but I'm used to that, you know.
07:52I don't mind a bit of dirt.
07:54I know it's not your thing, but a little bit of a clean, it'll be fine.
07:58Okay, so the tyres are vaguely alright.
08:00Seem better, but you know.
08:02Okay, alright.
08:03Well, look, there is a potential there, I guess.
08:05Yeah.
08:06If it runs.
08:07Come on, let's have a look around the corner.
08:08There's always something good around the corner.
08:09Yeah, okay.
08:13What's this then, baby?
08:14It's a Dexter with a flat tyre.
08:16Ah, okay, that's why it's feeling a bit ill.
08:18Sure.
08:19The good thing is, it looks like it's seen some action recently.
08:21Yeah, it does.
08:22So, that would indicate a working tractor, really.
08:26Just behind, there's another International.
08:29Nice set of rear tyres on it.
08:30Do you know what?
08:31There is a nice set of rear tyres on it, and also it's got a little roll bar.
08:35Don't think that's for us.
08:36No.
08:37But...
08:41Okay, so, just going down the line.
08:43Okay.
08:44Wing it!
08:45Yes, yes, the wingers.
08:46Those are quite an interesting thing, but like...
08:49Only the front loader one, I'd be interested in.
08:51Yeah.
08:52Two grey Fergies.
08:53One not so grey as the other one.
08:55No.
08:56Well, the one inside, I think, might be quite special.
08:59But the one outside...
09:00Yeah, could be good.
09:01...looks a little bit unloved, but if it runs and drives...
09:04I think it's a good candidate for just sort of...
09:07Yeah.
09:08...doing a basic get going, clean it, sort it.
09:11Yeah.
09:12That Fergie, you know, the red 35.
09:14Yes.
09:15I'll stay away from it.
09:16Yeah, I mean, you know...
09:17I don't know, because he says it's a couple of valves, but you never know, it might be
09:20in a couple more valves.
09:21You know, it could be a morning, at best.
09:23It could be...
09:24A week.
09:25Yeah.
09:26Shall we go and see him?
09:27Yeah.
09:28Yeah, come on.
09:37Shall we talk some prices?
09:38Yeah.
09:39Okay.
09:40This 275 straight in front of us?
09:43That one's definitely not for sale.
09:45Not for sale.
09:46Okay.
09:47We've fallen at the first fence.
09:48That's right, okay.
09:49All right.
09:50Well, there's the two...
09:51Winguts!
09:52Winguts, yeah.
09:53I'm not sure whether I want to sell those, but they would be about three grand each.
09:57Okay.
09:58Okay.
09:59Well, you're probably best to keep them.
10:00Yes.
10:01Yeah.
10:02The grey Fergie behind?
10:032500.
10:04Okay.
10:05And there's a grey Fergie out here?
10:08Yeah.
10:09Yeah.
10:10That one would be 1350.
10:11Does it run?
10:12It runs.
10:13Yeah.
10:14Does it stop?
10:15Yeah.
10:16The only thing is, the hydraulics aren't working.
10:18I think it's probably just the linkage seized up on the lever.
10:21Right.
10:22Okay.
10:23All right.
10:24Okay.
10:25And the Lamborghini not for sale.
10:26No.
10:27No.
10:28Would you go 1250 on the Fergie?
10:30Erm...
10:31Don't know.
10:321300 would sound a bit better to me.
10:34Now this, to me, exudes charm.
10:49Yeah.
10:50We're down in wet and windy Chepstow, with Geoff and his vast collection of tractors.
10:55He wants 1300 for a rusty little Fergie.
11:00But is that as low as he'll go?
11:02What about 12...
11:05I was going to say, what about 1275?
11:06No, you're going in.
11:07You're going in.
11:081300.
11:09He's going in.
11:10All right.
11:11There we are.
11:12If we do that up, we can make a couple of hundred on that.
11:13I reckon.
11:14If we do it, give it some love.
11:15I think so.
11:16You should be able to.
11:17Yeah.
11:20Next morning, it's show and smile time.
11:23Hey, do you know what?
11:25I was just thinking as I was walking up, I was thinking, oh, better make some apologies.
11:31But actually, this tractor looks better here than it did at the shed.
11:37If you see what I mean.
11:38It's not that bad at all.
11:39It's actually quite nice, isn't it?
11:40Now, I do know there is something wrong with it.
11:42Oh, yeah.
11:43The hydraulics aren't working properly, but Fuzz and Geoff had a conversation about it.
11:46So, I need to find out from Fuzz what's gone wrong.
11:48I'm just praying you don't want to paint it.
11:51I don't think we should.
11:52No.
11:53I think it looks lovely as it is.
11:55Do you know, I've got a suspicion this might be better than it looks.
11:58Oh, can I just note to self as well, it's got the underslung exhaust, so it must have
12:02worked.
12:03Oh, yeah.
12:04Undercover, if you see what I mean.
12:05In a greenhouse.
12:06Yeah, in a greenhouse or a stable.
12:08Which again, you know, may mean that it's okay.
12:11Yeah.
12:12We'll see.
12:13Hey, rock and roll, let's get a battery.
12:15Oh, here he comes, look.
12:20Little grey Fergies were known for their simple, reliable engineering.
12:26And many are still used today.
12:29This one, though, has been left out in the rain.
12:32Okay.
12:33Let's get some easy start.
12:34Let's get some easy start.
12:35Let's get some easy start.
12:36Let's get some easy start.
12:37Let's get some easy start.
12:38Well, it turns over nice, doesn't it?
12:40It's not that, it's the points we're cleaning.
12:42Okey-cokey 2000.
12:43I'll put my diamond files with a bit for it.
12:45I'll look at you with your little diamond file.
12:49It's a typical problem.
12:51The points are tiny electrical contacts, prone to corrosion.
12:55Diamond files are really good for filing hard metal like tungsten.
12:59Oh, right.
13:00Okay.
13:01It's what points are made out of.
13:02All right.
13:03Points mean prices.
13:04Yes.
13:05Hang on.
13:06So that should be on, look, because the light's on.
13:09Yes.
13:10I'll switch that off.
13:11Try it like that.
13:12Go on then.
13:13Is that anything?
13:14No, it's dead.
13:15There's no power there at all.
13:16Right, now put that on.
13:17Yeah, yeah, I've got power.
13:19Okay.
13:20Have you got power now, Al?
13:21Yeah, there's power there now.
13:22Right, okay.
13:23The light's on the dashboard.
13:24Let's switch it off.
13:25That's good.
13:26I've got power there.
13:27That's good.
13:28Well, as a result, this switch is intermittent slightly.
13:31Yes.
13:32Massive spark.
13:33Yeah, great.
13:34We're in.
13:35This is it, boys.
13:40She runs.
13:41She idles perfect.
13:42It's lovely, isn't it?
13:43Also, that didn't smoke at all.
13:45It's absolutely clean as a whistle.
13:48This goes way better than it looks.
13:50Yeah.
13:53Tomorrow, we take her for a ride.
13:56Eh?
13:58Next morning, Skid and I do just that.
14:01Oh, hang on, we're moving.
14:03We are moving.
14:04Oh.
14:08Mate, it trumbles along very nicely.
14:10It feels very smooth from here.
14:13See, there's a bit of a leak out of the radiator.
14:18Yeah, it's lovely, mate.
14:19Mate.
14:20What a lovely thing.
14:22I never ever thought this would run properly.
14:25It looks much more decrepit than it is.
14:28Than it actually is.
14:29I think this has been quite cherished.
14:30Rather like you, mate.
14:31Yeah.
14:32Yeah.
14:33Yeah, I look very out of sorts.
14:34I go better than I look.
14:40Back at base, it's pretty obvious where the radiator leak is.
14:44There's the dribbler.
14:45Yeah, there it is.
14:46But...
14:47Ooh.
14:48That should be straightforward, isn't it?
14:49Mate, I think it's just the hose.
14:51I mean, look, it's had a bodged strap repair there.
14:54Shall we take the hose off, then?
14:55Yes.
14:56See what blows.
14:57The hose connects the radiator to the engine.
14:59That's it.
15:00Well done, son.
15:01The damage is just wear and tear, and easy to sort.
15:04OK, so we need another one of them.
15:06Well, measure this and get an elbow.
15:07We must be able to buy an elbow from somewhere.
15:09Yeah, rip it.
15:10I'll get on the horn and sort that out.
15:11Right.
15:12Next morning, the whole gang is in town, and so is the replacement hose.
15:21A man with a boiler suit must do some manual labour.
15:25Well done.
15:27I'll do my bit.
15:31Marvellous.
15:32Best of luck, aren't you?
15:35Task number one is relatively simple.
15:38Replace the worn hose between the radiator and the engine.
15:41Alan Fuzz anchor the hose with a pair of Jubilee Cliffs,
15:45and then Skid arrives with a gallon of antifreeze mix.
15:49Anything coming out?
15:50Not yet.
15:53We're hosed up, are we?
15:54We are.
15:55OK, so we're hosed up.
15:57Do we want to start it?
16:02Yes.
16:03The first toss was an easy fix.
16:05The engine starts, and now nothing leaks.
16:08The problems at the back are tougher.
16:10The power take-off works, but the hydraulic linkage doesn't.
16:14Do we know that we've got enough oil in there?
16:16Yes, I checked that, and it's right up to the top.
16:18OK.
16:19And it's cleaned.
16:20Right, OK, so that's that.
16:21So we've got to take that big plate off.
16:23All right.
16:24That drops the pump out.
16:25But in order to do that, we need to take the power take-off off the back.
16:29Does it just slide out?
16:31Yeah, it does.
16:32The only other thing I was going to suggest was that we take the side cover off,
16:36to see if we've actually got attachment between the lever.
16:39Yeah, it might have been porcelain.
16:40And all the gubbins, yeah.
16:42Over the next two hours, Alan and Fuzz take a deep dive into the Ferguson's hydraulic system.
16:50Off come the panels.
16:52Out comes the hydraulic oil.
16:56And in go the fingers.
16:59But it's not an easy fix.
17:03Not quite there yet, sir.
17:05What?
17:06It's got a bit of a droop.
17:07We can't lift at the moment, so we've got to go slightly deeper in.
17:10Oh, no.
17:12They drain more hydraulic fluid.
17:15Bit of a spillage there.
17:17Remove the power take-off.
17:19I don't have to clean that even though.
17:21And then, finally, the hydraulic pump.
17:23The heart of the mechanism.
17:25There we go.
17:28Is that what was stuck?
17:30Yeah.
17:31It's free now though, isn't it?
17:33Yeah.
17:34The spring has fallen off into there.
17:38There we are.
17:40Oh, look.
17:41It's bent.
17:42It is bent.
17:43Now, I think that probably was the problem, wasn't it?
17:50In the end, could all our problems be caused by a bent spring?
17:55Only one way to find out.
17:58Go on then.
17:59Give it a go.
18:00Got it.
18:01Hold on.
18:02It's cracking.
18:03Look at it.
18:04Look at that.
18:05Brilliant.
18:06You're amazing.
18:08Oh, that's marvellous.
18:09Well, I think we can now go and do something interesting with a tractor.
18:13Yeah, fabulous.
18:14Ah.
18:15Hmm.
18:16I wonder what.
18:20Next morning, I set a challenge.
18:23Now then, we have, obviously, our Fergie Grey.
18:27And then we have, on the other side, we have my old grey gold.
18:31Fuzz drives that tractor, the one we're restoring.
18:34I'll drive the other one.
18:36Skid's in the back with me.
18:37You're in the back with Fuzz.
18:39We're going to go first one through the gap there.
18:42Okay.
18:43Then we go out into the big field and we're going to do an anti-clockwise circuit.
18:47And the winner is the person who gets back here the fastest.
18:51Okay.
18:53On your marks.
18:55Get set.
18:57Tractor.
18:59Are you all right, Skid?
19:00Run this on, run this on.
19:01Can you get on?
19:04Are you all right?
19:05Come on.
19:08Come on.
19:10Fuzz and Alan make a great start and immediately go into the lead.
19:14I'm going to have him.
19:15I need to get a good run at him.
19:19After 100 yards on the straight, I take him when we enter the field.
19:23I've got him.
19:25Come on.
19:27I've got him.
19:29In truth, it's a bit of a mismatch.
19:32The little grey Fergie has a 20 horsepower engine.
19:35The grey gold's engine is almost twice as large.
19:39It's great to see our latest purchase running so well.
19:43But in the end, there can only be one winner.
19:46Ah-hey!
19:48Phoenix!
19:49We don't have to make the team.
19:51See, we're not souped up, whereas your tractor is in regular use.
19:55Bad workmen play their toys.
19:57Oh, here we go.
19:59And these are gold for a reason.
20:00Of course.
20:01Now listen, you can take that back up to the office
20:04and you can talk about your failure while you make the tea.
20:07Two very special teas coming up.
20:09Yeah.
20:10Come on now.
20:11If you do anything untoward with them...
20:15Our final task is to sell the little grey Fergie.
20:19Next day, we get a punter.
20:20Will, a local mechanic and collector.
20:22You know the boys.
20:23Hello, Will.
20:24How are we doing?
20:25Now look, I think this is exactly the kind of tractor you want for fuffling around your small holding.
20:32I'm sure it will do the job indeed.
20:34It runs really nice.
20:36Lovely.
20:37And the linkage is working.
20:39New coolant hoses.
20:41New coolant hoses as well.
20:42And there is a luxury seat cushion.
20:44That's a luxury item.
20:45Enough for the back end.
20:46The back end.
20:47Yeah.
20:48Two grand.
20:49Two grand.
20:50You must be off your head.
20:52Actually, you're not the first person to say that to me over the years.
20:56Well, come on then.
20:57What do you reckon?
20:5916.
21:01Oh, come on, Will.
21:03Might I suggest a meeting of the two parties in the middle at 18?
21:0718.
21:09Yeah, go on then, Henry.
21:10Really?
21:11Yeah, 18.
21:12That's fine.
21:13That's good.
21:14Do you want to drive it home or should we have it delivered?
21:15Delivered.
21:16Oh, yeah.
21:17Okay.
21:19Okay.
21:20Cheers, Will.
21:21So, what was it?
21:221,300 to buy it.
21:23Yeah.
21:24100 quid for extras.
21:25Yeah, exactly.
21:26So that's 1,400 quid.
21:28So, £400 profit.
21:30All right.
21:31400 quid.
21:32T's on you, Fuzz.
21:33Come on then, Skid.
21:34How's that one work?
21:38I hope you guys see what's happening.
21:39Want to do it?
21:40I'm out!
21:41I'm out!
21:42I'm out!
21:43I'm out!
21:44Yeah!
21:45I'm out!
21:46I'm out!
21:47Cool!
21:49All right, well, I'm out!
21:51I'm out!
21:52I'm out!
21:54No, my gosh!
21:55All right.
21:56I'll do it!
21:57Yeah.
