00:00You know my favourite stripy mohair sweater, you know, the black and grey one?
00:06Yeah.
00:06Yeah.
00:07Look who's wearing it now.
00:09Oh, how cool is that, mate?
00:11Atticus.
00:11Atticus is wearing that now.
00:13I put it in the washing machine.
00:15I did set it on 30, but I didn't lower the spin.
00:18It's very warm, though, because it's very thick now.
00:23I'm Henry Cole.
00:24That is beautiful.
00:26I love it.
00:26And along with fellow fanatic Fuzz Townsend...
00:29In we go.
00:30Wow.
00:31We're back on the hunt for vintage treasures.
00:33Look, even more.
00:34...in the nation's sheds.
00:36Oh, my God, it's a treasure trove.
00:37We're going to buy them.
00:38That's fantastic.
00:40Fix them up and sell them for a tidy profit.
00:43I love it!
00:44Welcome to Shed and Buried.
00:51So we're off to Cambridge, right?
00:54We are going to go and see a bloke called Chris.
00:57Yeah, fantastic.
00:57Right, so what is Chris's kind of thing?
01:01What's he into?
01:03Now, look, right.
01:04I think this is a first.
01:06Yeah.
01:07But I may be wrong.
01:09Go on, then.
01:10I've seen a picture that he sent me of his gaff.
01:13Yeah.
01:13It seems that there is a helicopter in the yard.
01:18Oh, here we go.
01:20As soon as you saw the helicopter.
01:22Yeah, I thought, let's go there.
01:23I thought, has he got anything else?
01:25I don't care.
01:25Do you know, do you?
01:26I don't care.
01:26You don't know.
01:27No.
01:28No, I'll tell you what else he's got.
01:30He's got motorbikes.
01:31He's got a helicopter.
01:32And I'm sure he's got loads of other accoutrements that we don't know about.
01:36Yeah, come on.
01:36Let's go have a look.
01:38We're just up here.
01:40Okay.
01:44Here's Chris.
01:45Can I ask you, is the helicopter for sale?
01:52Not at the moment.
01:53Right, okay.
01:54Not at the moment.
01:55No.
01:55I still enjoy it.
01:55Not at the moment.
01:56Yeah, I did hear that.
01:57That was open, you know, I've left it open for the future.
02:01Okay, all right.
02:01Yeah, no, I think you should.
02:03But what else, Chris?
02:04What else rose your boat, then?
02:06Motorcycles has always been a long sort of standing passion of mine.
02:10Has it?
02:10Yeah, since I was 17.
02:11This is good.
02:12Didn't start collecting until probably about three years ago when I realised I need to
02:18fill some barns with stuff.
02:19Yeah, great, man.
02:20I realise that.
02:21It's rude not to, isn't it?
02:22I would be churlish.
02:24Is the collection open for turning over a little bit of, you know?
02:29There are some items that are available.
02:31Yeah, excellent.
02:33So should we just go in and have a look and make a wish list?
02:36Definitely.
02:37Chris, that's fantastic.
02:38All right, well, look, shall we get going?
02:39Do you want to have a closer look at the helicopter?
02:41No.
02:41Let's go and have a look in the sheds.
02:43Come on, then.
02:44All right, mate, we'll see you later.
02:45All right, nice one.
02:46Come on, this way.
02:47Yeah, yeah, we're going.
02:48Watch out for the...
02:48Watch your rotor blade.
02:53Right, come on.
02:54What number is it?
02:56Number...
02:56It wasn't seven.
02:57Three, I think.
02:58We're starting at stable three.
03:00Three!
03:01Go on, buzzer.
03:04What?
03:05Bikes under sheets.
03:07Oh, my word.
03:09Look at this.
03:09Are you ready?
03:10Here we are.
03:12That's not a motorbike.
03:15Oh, my word.
03:17We'll pass on the jet ski, but the three super bikes are much more interesting.
03:23He's got a Kawasaki GPZ 900, a Gixxer slab side, and a slightly later slingshot version in better nick.
03:32Right, that is a slingshot with a wobbly rear end.
03:35Yeah, it does have a wobbly rear end, but that could be a good thing, really.
03:39A little something to do.
03:40Yeah.
03:41Certainly needs a clean-up, a lot of titivation in there, but I think that could be made to look great.
03:48The Suzuki GSX, or Gixxer, is a classic 1980s super bike, which appeared in many different variants.
03:56The nickname slingshot refers to the shape of the carburettor, but make no mistake, these are seriously fast.
04:03I can't see how many miles it's done.
04:06It has done 44.
04:08Oh, that's quite a lot for this.
04:10It is.
04:11Oh, well, you know, for an everyday hack for someone, you'd never get it for the right price.
04:15There's 500 quid in it.
04:16Yeah.
04:16You clean it up, and millions love it.
04:18Yeah.
04:18Nice Gixxer, though, slabby, yeah.
04:20Yeah, those are lovely.
04:21Yeah, yeah.
04:23Moving on to Chris's containers.
04:27Right, you ready for this?
04:29Well, I don't know.
04:30I'm never ready.
04:31I bet you can hardly container yourself.
04:34You just saw what I did.
04:38Wow.
04:39Look at all this stuff.
04:41Well, it goes all the way back.
04:43Oh, my Lord.
04:44Where do you want to start?
04:45I don't know.
04:46Perhaps we should get Chris in and ask him about all these.
04:49Yeah, I think so.
04:50Chris?
04:51Hey, look, come on in, come on in.
04:53What's with all these bikes?
04:55How come?
04:56I mean, look, they're all in a slight state of disrepair, aren't they?
04:59Yeah, and some of them look like they might just have been imported.
05:03Is this sort of, is that, are there a couple of impulse buys here?
05:06There is a Japanese kind of import connection.
05:10Oh, is there?
05:10There is.
05:11Was the idea to restore them?
05:12Yeah, or sell them as projects, because a lot of these are rare, you know what I mean?
05:18Yeah, no, of course they are.
05:19No, I can see.
05:19You can't get hold of them in the UK so easily.
05:23So, yeah, Japan is the number one place, really, for anything 80s.
05:27Thanks, Chris.
05:28Right, shall we move on then?
05:36I'm just having a look at this tractor.
05:39So, this is probably around about 1962, 63?
05:44How do you know that?
05:44Have you just read it?
05:45I'm just looking at the registration number, L-E-W, and I think E-W went into reverse three letters
05:51around about the early 60s, but I'm not entirely sure.
05:54Do you know what?
05:55This comes up, you know.
05:56Yeah, does it?
05:57Yeah, this has got a V5.
05:59Yeah.
05:59It's got a registration dock, yeah, but it also says that it's an international, which
06:04we know, either a 250 or a 275, but it also says it's red, so obviously they haven't seen
06:11it recently.
06:12Well, I can see the vestiges of the red paint that they mention on there.
06:16I mean, yeah, it was red once.
06:18It was once.
06:19I think, you know, what gets me about seeing things like a tractor here and that 3C next
06:26to it?
06:27Yeah.
06:28What was the last thing that they did?
06:30The last thing that this tractor and that JCB were used for just before they came here,
06:36and why have they sat here ever since?
06:38Well, you know, these kind of tractors looking like this, I bet you run.
06:41Probably, with a little tickle, it'd be up and running.
06:44Mate, the problem is with these, these internationals, in immaculate condition, fully restored, like
06:52we've done a couple over the years.
06:54Yep.
06:55Four grand.
06:57Yeah.
06:58So this, you know, it's got to be a labour of love to restore it.
07:03Yes, of course it has.
07:04Yep.
07:05It has.
07:05And I don't really, if it was a Fergie, I might.
07:09Right, come on, let's move on.
07:10I don't think we're in the mood, are we?
07:12No.
07:13Henry Cole.
07:14What?
07:14Walking away from a tractor?
07:15Oh, yeah.
07:21I love places like this, because you never know what you're going to see around the corner.
07:25Here we go.
07:26Look, even more.
07:27Blimey.
07:28Hey, look.
07:29Oh, my God, look at all those two-strokes.
07:32That's a bit odd.
07:34What is that?
07:36It looks like a Jixxer behind.
07:38It's a Hayabusa.
07:40It's got a different tail on it.
07:42Wow, how weird is that?
07:47The Suzuki Hayabusa is a legendary sled.
07:51Introduced in 1999, it was the world's fastest production bike, capable of 188 miles an hour,
07:58and even more when souped up.
08:00This one, though, is not regular spec.
08:05They scare me.
08:06Why?
08:07Why?
08:07Because I know that I have not even enough talent to sit astride one of these, let alone
08:14start it up and ride it down the road.
08:16Yeah, I know.
08:17The bigger the bike, often, the easier they are.
08:19But, yes, that's right.
08:20But the easier it is to run out of talent at a very high speed, indeed.
08:24Yeah, I suppose so.
08:26Right.
08:28Hmm.
08:29This is difficult.
08:31That Hayabusa could be quite interesting.
08:34Okay, yeah.
08:34Also, over...
08:36Yeah.
08:37The project?
08:38Well, the project is the Jixxer.
08:40Yeah.
08:40The slab side.
08:41Yeah.
08:41But, again, we need to find out what fairings he's got.
08:44Yeah.
08:45Because that's the expensive part about it.
08:47Yeah.
08:47I mean, would that be something that...
08:50Take it on, move it on without doing it?
08:52Or, source some carbs and get it up and running.
08:58Yeah.
09:00What about the tractor?
09:02The tractor?
09:03Oh, yeah.
09:03You walked away from that.
09:05I know.
09:06Yeah.
09:06Oh, it's good.
09:07All right.
09:07Oh, it's difficult.
09:08Difficult shed.
09:09Difficult.
09:09It is, yeah.
09:16Can we start off with the project Jixxer slab side?
09:21Oh, yeah.
09:21Tell me about that.
09:22Is that available?
09:23That is available, yeah.
09:25In its current state, probably about £1,750.
09:31There is a tractor out there.
09:36It'd probably have to be a conversation around sort of £1,500.
09:41Okay.
09:42Somewhere around that.
09:42Okay.
09:43There's a Hayabusa with a strange back end.
09:45What's that about?
09:47Yeah, that's my own personal taste on the Hayabusa.
09:51But probably three and a half grand.
09:56Okay.
09:57Okay.
09:57Do you still have the original back end?
10:01Possibility.
10:02What about the Jixxer?
10:03That black and silver one?
10:05Yep.
10:05Does that run?
10:07It does run, yeah.
10:08I've had that running.
10:08And how much would that be?
10:12That one, £1,250.
10:14Would you...
10:16Shaky shaky.
10:17Would you sort of like negotiate?
10:19Yeah, some wiggle room.
10:20Yeah, definitely.
10:21Yeah, for sure.
10:22Grand?
10:22Grand?
10:36Wow.
10:37You've got all this stuff.
10:39We're over in Cambridge with Chris and his fabulous collection of bikes.
10:43He's asking £12.50 for a Suzuki Jixxer, but I want to pay less.
10:48Grand?
10:49Grand?
10:49Grand?
10:49Grand?
10:49Grand?
10:49Grand?
10:52I would shake your hand for a grand.
10:54Yeah, would you?
10:55Yeah.
10:55Has it got a V5?
10:56It has indeed.
10:57Yeah.
10:57Hold out your hand.
10:58Come on then, mate.
10:59You own it.
10:59All right.
11:00Well done.
11:05Next day, we show the Jixxer to our jokers.
11:09So we have ourselves a GSXR 750 slingshot bought for the princely sum of £1,000.
11:16I love this bike.
11:18Good lad.
11:18Even in its tatty state.
11:19Great.
11:20It's really powerful, really reliable.
11:23It's before all the ECUs and fuel injection and fuel pumps.
11:28It's not water-cooled, it's oil-cooled, which is a bonus.
11:31And the thing with this is you are still capable of completely working on it yourself at home without a laptop.
11:39See, man, he's just sold it to me.
11:41Yeah.
11:41And sold it to you, Alan, and sold it basically to the wider public.
11:45I think this is the best generation of Japanese bike to buy.
11:49Shall we just hook it up to a battery pack and see what happens?
11:53Yeah, see what happens, yeah.
11:53Yeah, all right.
11:54Okay, Ripper.
11:55So without more ado, we spray on some easy start and connect a power pack.
12:01Squirty, squirty.
12:02All right, battery on.
12:04I'll put this one on there like that, okay?
12:06And then this one like that.
12:08There, there.
12:09Ignition on, clutch in.
12:10Really?
12:13There.
12:14Hold it.
12:15Yes!
12:15There we are.
12:19That's fine, isn't it?
12:19Donky-donky 2000.
12:21Well, that's good.
12:22Well, that is good news.
12:23That sounded good on four cylinders as well.
12:25So what's next?
12:26The greatnesses.
12:27We should take the tank off.
12:28Right.
12:28And hook up a temporary fuel supply and see if the carburetors leak.
12:32Our Gixxer has four cylinders and four carburetors.
12:36Because it hasn't been used recently, the tank will need a clean-out.
12:40But first, we'll check the carbs with a temporary tank to see if they're okay.
12:45Fuel, please.
12:47Right, come on then.
12:47First check, is fuel flowing through the first pair of carbs?
12:53Well, that's flowing.
12:54That's clean as well, isn't it?
12:55Yeah.
12:56And the left?
12:59Have you got fuel there, Al?
13:00Yeah, and it smells fresh as well.
13:02Second check, is any fuel getting to the cylinders?
13:05Lish it on.
13:06Do you want any easy or not?
13:07No, we'll try this on the carbs.
13:08Okay, all right.
13:11Yes!
13:11Yes!
13:11Yes!
13:12Yes!
13:14Yes!
13:15Is that on?
13:19Is that with the choke on?
13:20It's on two cylinders, it's better than three.
13:28There you go, you see?
13:29Yeah.
13:30It's running on most cylinders most of the time.
13:33But not all cylinders, all the time.
13:34Do you think it's worth taking down the drive to see if it just chimes in?
13:38Sometimes that does actually work, doesn't it?
13:39It does sometimes.
13:40Yeah, I mean, you know, loosen it up a little bit, you know.
13:43Tell you what, I'll ride it, you hold the battery pack and you hold the fuel.
13:47What do I do?
13:48Easy start.
13:49Rumb it on, that'd be the easy start.
13:51Okay, all right, so, okay, what's the plan then?
13:54We need to clean the tank out or see what the tank's like, don't we?
13:56Yeah.
13:56The amazing thing is there's no leaps in the carbs, which is really unusual, isn't it?
13:59Yeah.
14:00Yeah, because normally...
14:01They pour out the bottom, they're not as leaps at all.
14:04Okay, all right, so, well, this is good, isn't it?
14:07Well, I think, I think at the moment, you're kind of evens on with your thousand pounds.
14:14It's very good.
14:15Maybe, maybe, even accelerating away from that to a positive level.
14:191,200.
14:20Yeah.
14:21One thing is you can generally say it's a runner.
14:23Yeah.
14:23Yeah.
14:26Next challenge, the tank.
14:29Al removes the fuel tap.
14:31What I'm really pleased about is this is really clean.
14:34Yes.
14:34It's not gummed up with, like, shellac and tar.
14:39The tank is not as rusty as we feared,
14:41so we sluice it out with some old fuel,
14:44which should dissolve any residues.
14:47Then, Alan notices something.
14:49The petrol tap has two outlets.
14:52Right.
14:52An outlet there and an outlet there.
14:54We were only putting fuel on two carburetors,
14:56and it was running on two cylinders.
14:57So he was probably running just on one pair of carbs.
15:00When we started it up, that's why it's on two,
15:01because it's only got fuel in two carburetors.
15:03The best way to check if Al's right
15:05is by giving it a quick run-out.
15:09Back on goes the tank.
15:10OK, that's it.
15:13In goes some fresh fuel.
15:15And we're set.
15:17All right.
15:18OK.
15:25Feels good.
15:26It's a few years since I was last on a Gixxer,
15:29but this one is sounding pretty sweet.
15:32The pipe's nice and loud.
15:35There's an awful lot to do on this,
15:37but at least it runs
15:39and it goes through, well, first and second.
15:42Oh, he's getting the chip on.
15:56Yeah, he is.
15:57Sounds really good.
15:58I wonder if the brakes work.
15:59Well, it's all right.
16:04Yeah.
16:06You know what I mean?
16:08I think that's good.
16:10What does it sound like?
16:11It sounded really, really crisp.
16:12Yeah.
16:13Yeah, it sounds nice.
16:14Sound's on four now.
16:15OK, so look, we've got a cleaner.
16:17I've got to get some indicators
16:18and any other things that we've forgotten.
16:21That's about it, really.
16:22Yeah, I think so.
16:23All right.
16:24Well, let me on the ivories.
16:26I'll order some stuff.
16:31Two days later, the posties arrived
16:34and Alan and Skid are back at work
16:36fitting a new battery and some indicators.
16:38Oh, there we go.
16:42The beautiful silence
16:43and listening to the bumblebees is gone.
16:46Hey, so what's going on?
16:47Well, Al's fitted a battery.
16:49Oh, good.
16:50I've polished the can up a little bit
16:51so it looks a bit more presentable.
16:53Yeah, good.
16:54I've chopped the...
16:55I had some horrible light household
16:56electrical connectors with the screws in.
16:59Oh, yeah.
16:59So I've chopped them off
17:00and put some of your new bullets on
17:01that we bought the other day.
17:02Oh, yeah, nice.
17:03Japanese bullets, they're called, aren't they?
17:05Yes.
17:05Yeah.
17:06And so what we're going to do
17:07is we're just going to test it
17:08before we bolt them on.
17:09All right.
17:10So I've done both terminals.
17:12This will be cool if this works.
17:14Look at that.
17:14That's perfect.
17:15Oh, mate, that's it.
17:16That's it.
17:16That's it.
17:16You guys are geniuses.
17:19Unbelievable, man.
17:20Well, it's quite a simple job.
17:22Well, hold on.
17:23Shouldn't that be genii?
17:24Is that Latin?
17:26Yeah, well, yeah.
17:27Well, you should know.
17:28I wasn't listening in the Latin classes,
17:29I have to tell you.
17:30I did.
17:31I like Latin.
17:32Did you?
17:32Yeah.
17:33Did you?
17:33Yeah, I wasn't very good at it.
17:34No, no.
17:35No change there, then.
17:36I struggle with English.
17:36All I know is culpa mia, my fault.
17:39What's that?
17:39Carpe diem?
17:40No, that means...
17:41She's the day.
17:41Yeah.
17:42No, culpa mia.
17:43What's that?
17:44My fault.
17:44It's been very useful to me, that.
17:46Isn't it great?
17:46In my life.
17:47Yeah, especially fixing indicators.
17:48Yes.
17:49Yeah.
17:49OK, good.
17:50All right, so we've done that.
17:51What else have we got to do?
17:52We've fitted the battery.
17:53We've got to fit the indicators now.
17:54Fit the indicators.
17:55Yeah.
17:56And then, yeah, then we'll give it a whiz.
18:00Half an hour later,
18:01the indicators are properly fixed.
18:03The bike's had a quick polish,
18:05and we're back on the road.
18:06In today's posse,
18:11we've got Fuzz on a Harley,
18:14Skid on a Goldwing,
18:17and Alan on his Pan-European,
18:20and me enjoying the Gixxer.
18:23Oh, yes.
18:31Smooth as silk.
18:33What a beautiful thing.
18:35These bikes were kind of one of the first, really,
18:39where you go racing,
18:41you could also go on tour with it,
18:44you know?
18:44Now we've done the bits and bobs,
18:55Timmy.
18:57Gearbox was great.
18:58Red counter's working.
18:59Everything's working.
19:01I reckon it's got to be worth $17.50, surely.
19:04Anyway, we'll go to Abe to get ourselves a burger.
19:10Happy day.
19:10It's my favourite restaurant.
19:11This thing utterly flies.
19:28Yeah, it sounds good.
19:29It is beautiful.
19:31I think it probably could do,
19:32like any bike of this age,
19:33a good carb clean.
19:34Carb clean, yeah.
19:35Yeah, I mean, pilot jets or whatever.
19:36Yeah.
19:37But all I can say is that it does exactly what it says on the tin,
19:40which is it flies and it stops.
19:43Yeah.
19:43Nice.
19:43And it also feels,
19:45what I love about these Gixas,
19:46and it's no different to any others I've ridden,
19:49you feel planted with them,
19:50you feel safe with them.
19:51You're inside it, aren't you?
19:51Because you're inside it.
19:52It's sat in it, yeah.
19:53Absolutely.
