00:00A young transgender athlete at the center of a U.S. Supreme Court case regarding trans
00:05participation in girls sports is being accused of some pretty aggressive sexual harassment and
00:11intimidation. Adelia Cross, a high school student in West Virginia, says that the trans student who
00:16was born a biological male made obscene sexual remarks to her in a girl's locker room during
00:22the 2022-2023 school year when she was in eighth grade. At the time, the accused harasser was about
00:2912 or 13 years old. If you want to read just what the student allegedly said, I'm going to link to
00:36our article in the show notes, but trust me when I say it is not morning podcast material. A second
00:42student athlete, Emmy Salerno, says that the same trans athlete used, quote, intimidation tactics
00:48against her when she refused to compete during a track meet in the spring of 2024. Now, the unnamed
00:54alleged instigator has identified as female since the third grade and brought a lawsuit
00:59against the state of West Virginia back in 2021 at just 11 years old. Now, the student won that
01:05suit and successfully blocked a law banning trans athletes, but that case has been appealed and will
01:11now be heard by the highest court in the land. The student is being represented by the ACLU and has
01:17the support of more than 130 congressional Democrats in an amicus brief. The ACLU claimed that Cross's
01:24accusations were investigated by the school and were unfounded, and there hasn't been any update
01:29on Salerno's accusations. Oral arguments in the Supreme Court case are scheduled to begin next week.
