00:00A rank insignia ceremony was held at Wisma Pertahanan on Tuesday morning to mark General Datuk Azhan Mad-Otman's appointment as the 31st Army Chief.
00:11The ceremony was officiated by Defense Minister Datuk Sri Muhammad Khaled Norden and witnessed by Malaysian Armed Forces Acting Chief, Admiral Tan Sri Zulhelmi Ithnain.
00:21General Azhan officially assumed the post on January 1st, following the decision of the 631 Armed Forces Council meeting on November 19th and with the consent of His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, on December 1st.
00:51He added that the welfare of Army Chief, Admiral Tan Sri Zulhelmi Ithnain.
01:19He added that the welfare of Army personnel and their families will remain a top priority and called on all members to unite, strengthen cohesion and enhance performance to ensure the Army continues to move forward as a professional, capable and trusted defense institution.
01:34Born in Muar Johor on September 4th, 1969, General Azhan began his military career as an officer cadet in Sungai Bersi in 1987, before being commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Royal Malay Regiment on July 29th, 1989.
01:55Throughout his career, he has held key appointments, including commanding officer of the 24th Battalion, Royal Malay Regiment, commander of the Army Ready Battalion, commander of Malbat 850-6, and commander of the 2nd Infantry Division.
02:11He has also served in strategic staff roles, including chief of staff at Armed Forces Headquarters and holds academic qualifications in strategic and defense studies, including a diploma from University Malaya and advanced studies at the French Joint Defense College, École des Guerres.
